The Town has a peaceful Ambience, which is good after all the turmoil it went through in the 40's. In regards to street food they say if the oil is dark/burn't when frying food walk away, as the oil has been used for too long. i asked a Thai lady i know what they used before commercial oils came on the scene, Chicken and Pork fat mainly, can't beat food cooked in Lard especially chips.😁
@WalkAboutWayne9 ай бұрын
The town has that special feeling, like a safety net over the place. I feel safe and peace here. Yes, some of the oil they use is old. Cheers mate.

glad to see more of these smaller towns around thailand. I stopped over at kanchanaburi last year to visit the deathrail for a couple of hours. Theres a real charm with all these smaller towns; less complications. I went all the way to Sangkhla Buri bordering myanmar and stayed a night there. Highly recommend you to experience that journey.

I have always found Kanchanaburi to be a " thin place " somewhere where time isn't separated by much. You can feel the history. So beautiful and calm but a sense of sadness underlying it. There is a lot of falangs there but not like you find in tourist areas and Kanchanaburi is a massive region with so many places to see and explore. Definitely a chilled out place to live 😊

Yes, I agree, it's a strange feeling in Kanchanaburi, but a good one. It feels safe here and at peace. Thanks.

When you get back to Bangkok, you should check out the Royal Thai Air Force Museum. They've got an honest to goodness Spitfire there, and you can get close enough to fondle it. 😁 Also a Harrier jump jet.. I had no idea Thailand had some, until it showed up 3-4 years ago. One of my favorite places to visit in Bangkok, and it's a lot easier to get to since they opened the BTS extension a couple years back. Station just outside the gate!

@@WalkAboutWayne Actually, maybe you can do me a favor.. there's a RTAF museum in Chiang Mai, too.. except I haven't seen able to figure out how to get in. They have the remains of a crashed American P-40, shot down during an attack on Chiang Mai airfield. I forget the whole story, but the Thais helped the pilot escape the Japanese. All information I have found is YEARS out of date, I tried to get the folks at the hotel to help but no go. It's on the military side of the airport, there's a guard post and everything. They supposedly open it up to the public once a year. I figure since you live there you might be able to find out something.

@@WalkAboutWayne Actually, maybe you can help me out with something. There's another RTAF museum in Chiang Mai. Among the exhibits is the remains of a crashed American P-40 Warhawk, that was lost after an attack on Chiang Mai airfield. As the story went, the Thais hid the pilot and helped him escape the Japanese. Problem is I have not figured out how to get in. All the information I have found online is highly outdated, all the phone numbers don't work, etc. I tried getting the folks at the hotel to help once, they came up against a brick wall. Perhaps you could ask around? The museum is on the military side of the airport, there's a guard post and everything. I don't think I have ever seen a vlog on it, to date.
@WalkAboutWayne9 ай бұрын
@@iskandartaib Sounds like it's the side road that's next to the airport, from how you described. You need a a yearly ticket to go through that road. I've got through a few times without the guard asking. I've never heard that story though, Interesting. I'll try an look more into it.

I'm a veteran myself so I have immense respect for anyone who serves in their countries military. The thing is you either served ur country as a soldier or you didn't, plain and simple, most men are terrified of the idea of serving so they don't. Great video, love seeing the WW2 depictions. you always seem to find these little nooks and crannies to visit, love it!
