Why do people follow you? beside your good looks (joking) it's really how you approach food and the culture. You are open, you understand flavors, your appreciation for what goes into the process of creating the foods is apparent when I watch your videos. I feel like I'm not just watching another vlogger who likes to eat, but someone who has deep knowledge & appreciation for what they are eating. Keep it up and grow that subscriber base Chad!

As a Vietnamese, what I like about your videos is that you can describe food clearly. Even before I know you're a chef, the way you describe food really shows that you know food & know how to cook. I watch a lot of videos about Vietnamese cuisine (I'm living abroad and I miss our food) but I don't find anyone who can give the details of the taste as correct as you. Moreover, you introduce not only already well-known dish but also other hidden gems. I love your drinks series. I hope you'll try more Northern traditional drinks like Dracontomelon (quả sấu) juice or mulberry juice in the future. They're really tasty.

Most of the Vietnamese people that I know that live there don't go very far out of their districts just to eat. You help them be more comfortable with doing that, and I thank you.

Binh Thanh and D10 is not far from anywhere by any mean. Where do you live?

Eh, it depends. If the family/the person lives near a nice restaurant/favorite place to hang out with friends they are less likely to go to other districts just to eat out. But once a month we like to visit some new places through word of mouth and discounts. People also go back to their hometown in other provinces on holidays; the companies also hold parties for the employees; the weddings from relatives, friends and colleagues per month are also not few and far 😂 But most of the time people live near markets and supermarkets to cook and eat at home. It's cheaper this way.

Here's the folklore poem that was recited by my Mom when I was young ( referenced to second restaurant) : Mấy đời bánh đúc có xương ... Mấy đời Mẹ ghẻ mà thương con chồng !!!! Second version of it: Mấy đời bánh đúc có xương ... Mấy đời cọng sản mà thương dân mình !!! It is deep!!!! Read it and think about it!!!

Honestly, there is nothing deep about that "Idiom", she simply substitute the words with another. I can do that too: Ai đời đi bán hàng cơm, Bảo cho bát bún lại đưa tô mì. Bao ngày phơi nắng phơi sương, căn nhà cũ kĩ giờ đen xì xì. Bút chì gồm vỏ, lỗi và gôm, Vỏ làm từ gỗ, bên trong than chì.

Vietnam could be more enjoyable if the people didn’t throw garbage everywhere, stopped scamming and stealing. And also, the food vendors need to be more hygienic and safe.

Hey Chad. I think you should try out “Bánh tráng” (Rice paper). There’s many kinds of them, my personal favorite is “Bánh tráng nướng”

My personal fav will be bánh tráng chộn. Not the packaged kind but the kind that they mixed on the spot. There was one time the lady mixed in mắm ruốc! I was kinda blown away. It is salty, sour and so so so spicy. Pair that with a can of cold 7-up holy moly. I am salivating so hard while typing this 😂

@nguyentran-kf2sh my favorite as well and there was a video of him trying vegetarian bánh tráng trộn. He said it had been the best one so far, even better than bánh tráng trộn with dried meat. I wish I could have bánh tráng trộn right now. Thinking about it makes my mouth watery.

I've never heard of bánh tằm cay. However, by the look of it, I wouldn't wanna order it. It could be good, though. I'm a picky Vietnamese eater. Where I want to eat is also as important as what I want to eat. So I give you credits for being able to eat a lot of things and dine in every where. By the way, I used to live on Vạn Kiếp. Seeing it again makes me miss it so much. Man, I miss being in VN. By the way, I would also like to see decent, clean, beautiful food vendors/restaurants/coffee shops with reasonable prices in your videos so that foregners wouldn't think that we only had unhygienic places 😅.

I would recommend you to try out a dessert called Bánh bột lọc or rice dumplings, it is pretty rare to find one in Saigon, specially a good one If you happened to come across the central part of vietnam, you should try and go to Mỹ Chánh, it is considered the best rice dumplings there according to me and my relatives

Banh duc is my favourite and it also reminds me of my grandma. She used to make it for for me when I was 6 years old. My grand parents were from the north and migrated south during the french period so I would say, her version is traditional northern style. Her banh duc was thicker and more opaque compared to what I see on the video. Seems like the one in the video is using a shortcut. Its almost as thick as the "banh duc chien". We usually don't eat it like this way. I am not sure if eating like this is a new or traditional but I personally dont like drenching my food with sauce. Its too over powering. I love eating banh duc with thicken caramelised fish sauce with dried shrimp and pork. Banh tam cay is something I would prefer it over the traditional version. I find the traditional banh tam is too rich and sweet. If banh tam cay were at their original shape and no tapioca in the sauce. I would go for the banh tam cay in this competition.
