One thing that many people misunderstood is "Bun bo Nam Bo" is not actually the original food of the South. The word "Nam Bo" is translated as Southern Vietnam but "Nam Bo" in this dish is the former name of a street in Hanoi which is Le Duan (the street has the train station) Anyway, very nice video and thank the vietnamese tour guide a lot for introducing the cuisine of our country

There is an alternative explanation for the origin of the first dish you tried, "bun bo Nam Bo," which some believe to be more accurate. According to this version, the dish was first created by a local family restaurant or food vendor located on a street in Hanoi's Hoan Kiem district called "Nam Bo," which translates to "Southern." This name has caused confusion among many people who assume that the dish must have originated in the southern region of Vietnam or been prepared in a southern style. Despite the confusion, the guide who introduced you to the dish was both entertaining and knowledgeable. As a Hanoian, I appreciate your open-mindedness towards exploring the culinary delights that Hanoi has to offer. As someone who has hosted friends from overseas, I know how frustrating it can be when they complain about small details like messy or dirty surroundings. I commend you for your positive attitude and willingness to embrace new experiences. Keep up the awesome attitude!

The fact that “Bun bo nam bo” is not a southern cusine. It’s original from Hanoi. The first place served ít in the past located in a street which called “nam bộ”. Nam Bộ in vietnamese means Southern. Therefore, a lot of people think this dish came from southern of Vietnam.

Talking about cuisine, Vietnam is very diverse. I hope you will have the experience of going to the countryside of Vietnam so that you can enjoy other cuisines that many cities and towns do not have.

Thanks for the great suggestions and we definitely won’t miss out on the beautiful countryside!

@@SammyandTommy Oh, so happy to hear you guys are coming back to Vietnam later this year. I've been watching videos the last week and I've got recommendations for you based upon the videos I've seen. LOL! Check out the videos from "Shot in the Dark Travels" as they are having the most amazing time here with their parents, I don't think you've been to Sa Pa (trek with the local minorities, glass bridge, Fansipan, waterfalls, etc.), do the Ha Giang Loop (check out LukePalms, CularTravels, and Paddy Doyle videos..."Jammy Bits" are putting out great videos of their motorbiking right now), Cat Ba Island (check out the video from "Jamie and Hannah" and I recall Max McFarlin staying at a really cool place outside the city there years ago), Da Lat (tons of stuff to do around there), Phu Quoc has tons of things to do around there ("Chase and Shelbs" just made a video from there, but there's WAY more stuff to do there like these things recommended by another viewer: take the cable car linking the main island of Phu Quoc to Hom Thom Island ( Pineapple Island) and visit the Safari park, the Aquarium, the Aquapark, VinWonders theme park, Khem Beach, Starfish Beach (NOT Star Beach), Ho Quoc pagoda, the tropical forest, the pepper and cashew nut plantations and pearl farms). Also hit up Nha Trang (mud bath, canonying, ruins, etc.), Phong Nha for single or multi-day caving, guided Mekong Delta tour ("The Passport Couple" did this, I think? Might have been another couple as I've forgotten...but there is one where you wear the traditional Vietnamese garb and go mud fishing), etc.

Sammy and Tommy definitely have a way of making videos that others can't touch yet. Very professionally done. However, there are other youtubers putting out great videos (may not be as beautifully edited as Sammy and Tommy's, though). Other interesting videos I've seen are "Jammy Bits" whom are motorbiking across Vietnam right now, "Shot in the Dark Travels" whom are having the time of their life in Vietnam, "Chase and Shelbs", "Flora and Note" (last year's videos), "2Passports 1Dream" (also from last year), etc. And since you mentioned Paddy, I assume you're interested in the Ha Giang Loop, so check out "LukePalms" and CularTravels. "Alright Anton!" has put out some great drone videos from Ninh Binh and Hue and such. Oh, and do food tours in every city you can...great tour guides I've seen are from "Steph and Pete" in Hoi An, MomDuty and "Flora and Note" in Hanoi, and "Chase and Shelbs" in HCMC/Saigon.

The lemon taste in the sugarcane juice comes from either kamquat or lime they mix in the juice

Kudos to the local guide, but Bún Bò Nam Bộ is actually a Hanoian food. It starts off on a street named Nam Bộ (now Lê Duẩn str), hence the name Bún Bò Nam Bộ.

the lemony taste in the sugarcane juice come from the kumquat we put in to cut down the sweetness

Oh good to know! It was so delicious! 🤗

Yep, it's to counter the sweetness and also adds another dimension to the aroma. It's delicious!
