Oragadam, known as one of South Asia’s largest automobile hubs, is also one of Chennai’s fastest-growing suburbs. Efforts are on to develop it into a multi-faceted industrial zone, but what does this area offer for property investors? And is it worth investing in this locality? Let’s find out.
Oragadam, one of the largest and most developed industrial hubs of Chennai, is located about 55 km southwest of the city centre. It’s nestled between the Grand Southern Trunk Road or NH 45 and National Highway-4. Poondi, Mathur, Vadakkupattu, Vattambakkam, Salamangalam, Navalur, and Arambakkam are areas surrounding this region.
Oragadam is home to many automobile-related companies and workshops. Over 22 Fortune 500 companies have made significant investments in Oragadam and the Oragadam-Sriperumbudur belt. Renault-Nissan, Royal Enfield, Ford, Dell, Samsung, Apollo Tyres, TVS Electronics, Yamaha, JCBL, Essar Steel, BPCL, GE Bayer, and Komatsu are some of the prominent companies to be named. The state government’s upcoming Oragadam Industrial Corridor Road, worth INR 300-crore, will further add more employment opportunities.
Oragadam is well-connected via road and rail networks. SH-48, SH-57, Tambaram-Mudichur-Oragadam Road, Tambaram-Mudichur-Walajabad Road and Vandalur-Oragadam-Walajabad Road are some of the arterial roads providing connectivity. MTC buses connect the locality to various other parts of the city via the Oragadam and the Oragadam Junction bus stops. Autos are available from major junctions. There is no metro connectivity to the locality as of now. Maraimalai Nagar Kamarajar Railway Station, situated at around 12 km, is the nearest. The Railway board’s plans to revive the Sriperumbudur-Guduvanchery new line to cater to the industrial belt of Oragadam will further help hundreds of workers who are employed in nearby industries. Chennai International Airport is 33 km away.
Oragadam’s residential market is mainly attractive for those looking to buy or invest in affordable properties, especially plots.
Agathiya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship, P S Temple Green Vidyashram, Thriveni Academy, Apollo Priyadarshanam Polytechnic College, Sri Krishna Engineering College, and Raasi College of Engineering are some of the prominent educational institutions present in and around the locality.
Parvathy Ortho Hospital, Hiranandani Parks Hospital, Factor Healthcare, Hoscons Medical Centre & Hospitals, RMD Multispeciality and Sayee Hospitals provide healthcare facilities to the residents of Oragadam.
Local shops and markets cater to the daily shopping needs of the residents. There are no prominent malls close to the locality.
Bad roads along a few interior stretches, lack of sewer connections and frequent power cuts are some of the concerns of the residents of Oragadam.
