Bushings are seriously the most overlooked thing. They effect almost everything and an internally cracked bushing can send you down a rabbit hole!

Thunder Trucks with Bones Medium bushings are the gold standard. Best combo ever. Love the videos.

I like Shorty's Doh Doh bushings. My favorites are the 95a red ones. They last a long time, at least for me. They might be more squaky than normal bushings, but it doesn't matter to me. The material is a bit different than normal bushings, more industrial. Try them out! 4:55 Your hardware will wear down if your trucks will shake like that. As a guy who fixes electric motors (mainly change bearings) for work, that play makes me anxious 😅You should always tighten stuff like you tighten car wheels.

You're not a small guy. You should probably be using medium to harder bushings. Not saying super hard, but those stock bushings are too soft for you.

Bushings are lowkey one of the most important parts of a skateboard but they’re such an afterthought to so many people. I think it takes getting older and developing a healthy gear madness to really dial in what you want in bushings 😂

From my own experience riding thunders for almost 20 years the red bushings are soft the orange bushings are medium soft the blue, green and white bushings are usually a medium 94-96 duro i opt for either the medium bones bushings or i leave them stock with just the green or blue thunder bushings that come inside the trucks more often than not i change the stock bushings from ware and tear more than the medium bones bushings they dont freeze up and crack like thunder bushings do during the winter or going from skating indoors where its warm and go out skating in the cold is more than likely gonna ruin or break your bushings if i were you id probably ride hard bushings on the bottom and a medium on top will give you stability when you need it but the medium bushing will still allow some manueverability

It’s the pivot cup, a bad or blown out pivot cup will blow out the bushings faster, also Thunder needs to make inverted kingpins

Sounds like you need to throw in some Indy bushings, the blues my work best for you. If you still got them old Indy’s laying around throws those on instead. I always hear about how bad thunder bushings are.

I’ve always wondered why you skate the 90a bushings? They’re meant for a 140-150lb person that’s why they break. Get yourself the thunder 94-96a bushings and it will be game changing.

The stock Thunder top washer rubs on the sides of the top bushing which destroys it. I fix it by replacing it with the top washer that comes in with Bones Bushings

Ventures have a similar wheelbase offset to thunders, they also lock in well. I like them at least as much as Indy, probably more in some ways. In the ‘90s thunder lows and venture lows were very similar, I had two sets of thunders that the axles slipped and have/will never buy them again. You really ought to wax your trucks whenever you take them apart or change bushings. Regular old paraffin, gulf wax. Rub on all the contact points, bushings/washers, and shave some into the pivot cups. It keeps them from sticking or squeaking. And mini logo bushings are great aftermarket replacements

The thunder trucks top washer digs in the hanger with loose trucks. Stripped kingpin or kingpin bolts sucks mayor. My solution is bones bushings medium duro with the small top washer. Works best for me.

For me Thunder trucks have the best stock bushings. My issue with Thunders are the wheels touching on nose and tail slides. I skate Indy now but i replace the bushings and pivot cup from the start with some premium bushings.

So did you tighten your hardware off camera or leave it like that? That’s crazy, hardware isn’t really supposed to be or get loose. I swear by independent hardware as far as skate branded hardware, but I’d imagine decent nuts/bolts from the hardware store would be fine too. It’s the ones that are marketed as skate hardware but are shit quality that are the problem. Bolts strip and nuts come loose. It’s good to check over your board/hardware before you skate, but you really should almost never need to retighten. I often, but not always, use risers so idk if that helps keep hardware from vibrating loose or not. Even the boards without risers don’t get loose, just make sure to tighten them well the first time and use decent hardware

The issue is that they're Thunders they have always been a very stable truck, but the turn radius is ass. even with hardcore bushings, turning always feels more stiff. That only comes down to the construction. Indys just feel more responsive. They're hella loose when you first get them, but after you break those bushings in and tune em how you like. UNBEATABLE

Did I miss the really important part where you break them in the right way so you don’t screw them up. I feel like that was foreshadowed and then didn’t happen.

As someone who has tried so many brands over the decades. Independent trucks reign supreme. Pop comes from strength, timing and confidence. Not trucks bro bro ❤️🛹🤙
@Not_Yuto_Horigome
@Not_Yuto_Horigome Жыл бұрын
Pop also comes from the geometry of your board and angle of your trucks in relation to the length of your tail and it has to work in conjunction with your body type. So if he feels that the thunders work best for his body type and WB length and kick length then that’s legit. It’s not just strength and timing.
@Not_Yuto_Horigome
@Not_Yuto_Horigome Жыл бұрын
Sure strength and timing can get you pop on any board, but to optimize and maximize your pop it is a little more in depth than that.
@Dontbustthecrust
@Dontbustthecrust Жыл бұрын
@@Not_Yuto_Horigomewhat you're saying is strength and timing is more important to get right than the trucks. Once you have the strength and timing then you can "optimize" you skating by playing different trucks but if you don't have the fitness part, then the other stuff like trucks or boards won't matter.

@@DontbustthecrustYeah when I got the grasp of Ollie’s in the 80’s I rode bullet 66 and 1/2” risers on an Alva board with a 45 degree pitch. Also on top of that suicide bolts. (Upside down to catch the foot) can’t say that extra leverage helped but my Ollie’s did improve the stronger I got and the more reps I put in. Fast forward to the mid 90’s popsicle shapes and small wheels Ollied the highest during that era. So my experience is different I guess🤷🏽‍♂️
