Apparently, by this point, the local kids' show Steampipe Alley had grown, so they decamped to the newsroom, until they became UPN 9, and debuted a new set (Steampipe Alley had ended by this point).

This was back in the days when WWOR [then owned by MCA, who also distributed "KATE & ALLIE" in syndication] was a "real" local station- not a "parking lot" for Rupert Murdoch's inventory of WNYW/Fox programs- and "paid informercials" late at night and weekends- as it is today. Channel 9's long-time staff announcer Phil Tonken is heard in the "KATE & ALLIE" promo...

I disagree. WWOR is still better than WPIX. UPN stomped The WB in the ratings and I'm reviving UPN and creating WB. The CW sucks balls (but in all fairness they've gotten better since they've become a Nexstar network and The WB's bullshit has stopped), and MyNetworkTV stomps them in the ratings, and to be honest better Fox and what they did to UPN and their stations (either way I'm sure they didn't do any harm, and MyNetworkTV is UPN [the first incarnation] in sequel form). That's far better than The CW which was The WB 2.0 and continued their lame string of unpopular shows ("Gossip Girls" - dafuq? XD - that show is so pendantic I can't even... "Smallville" - DAFUQ? XD that show is such dumb bullshit) My revival of UPN is gonna be somewhat mysterious. As CBS being the dumb shitstains they are didn't give UPN a proper fairwell. So I have a little surprise for my viewers when on opening night of my UPN revival.

This takes me back, at the time when my cable company (now known as Time Warner Cable) once carried WWOR until the Summer of 1989 when the former was replaced by what is now known as Fox Sports Network.

The days of MCA ownership sure did provide the crappiest set for Channel 9 News I do believe, especially compared to what they had just prior. I doubt you could even consider this a set; it's basically just a desk in the newsroom.

No it does not dumbass. They were great as a UPN station too, and they stomped WPIX, pre-UPN, as a UPN station, and after UPN, as a MNTV station

Would be interesting that Lloyd could run for governor in California or something, with his charm and his positive energy, he would change the state and more.

@kstarpictures I disagree, it looked like a full-fledged newsroom. And plus I believe WWOR improved on the technology. They were cutting edge in technology before then. They had the most modern network plaza. So much that "Richard Bey" and "Morton Downey"'s theme song played over the audience while it was playing. They probably had screens. Going to them was like going to a concert today. It was that modern.

Whoa, someone knew about femslash in 1988! That "Kate & Allie" promo should've just ended with 'yeah, they're doing it'; it was that transparent.
