I love steel services to Steel Main so much actually. though tracers on plastic are braindead easy to locate but it's such a chore when it is no longer accessible. have to backfed on 200k from nearby service assuming every service and the main they are connected to are plastic on that street

Plastic gas services with trace wires are easy to locate when the trace wire is properly connected to the main line. However, in your case, the trace wire might be buried beneath concrete or cut too short to the surface. Never assume anything, especially when dealing with natural gas. Ensure these services are correctly located by using a low frequency. Using 200 kHz carries a high risk of signal bleeding onto the water service, leading to its missmarking as a gas line. When encountering such issues, always push it back to the gas company for resolution.
