What’s the difference in peak and Noel?
@811chicago519 күн бұрын
Peak Mode identifies the strongest signal directly above or near the utility, helping to locate its center. In contrast, Null Mode detects the weakest signal, which is helpful for determining the edges of the utility’s path.

“Big coil” that’s called a slack loop buddy. And ring clamps are absolute ass. Also, no matter how you clamp it, your tone is going to go on the whole fiber. 😂
@bigbosssauce7Ай бұрын
You lose signal as the distance increases. And sometimes it's very dramatic and sudden. So you are voluntarily reducing the distance that you are able to trace the line by just clamping onto the big loop

When using a ring clamp or making a makeshift ring clamp like you did, milliamps are almost always going to be really low. You're more paying attention to your depth and making sure you're peak and null match.

Hello, CAL-0 indicates that the locator does not have a current calibration, right? Are you wondering if there's anything that can be done to prevent this message from being displayed when you start the locator? It's best to calibrate it, I know? But paying for calibration every year is too much. Older models don't have this problem, they don't display this message.
@811chicago5Ай бұрын
Yes, CAL-0 on a Radiodetection locator indicates that the locator does not have a current calibration. Reach out to Radiodetection’s customer support or technical support to see if there is away to turn it off.

Regarding the point at 12:15 where you've got your peak and null not in the same spot. The correct procedure* is: 1. Measure the distance between the peak and null, and then divide that distance by 2. In your case, it looks to be about 8" apart, so the number you need is 4". 2. Draw a straight line from the null to the peak, and then continue in that same direction by an extra 4" beyond the peak (so you should now be 12" away from the null point). That is where the target utility should be. Yes, the point you marked halfway between the peak and null might be within your reported margin of error in this case, but it's not really good practice, because if there were additional buried conductive utilities nearby, the distortion can be made worse, and the responses from peak and null, and the location of the actual utility can be further apart (much more than the difference shown in this video example). *as per the Radiodetection user manual and as per page 58 of 'The ABC and XYZ of Locating Buried Pipes and Cables', also by Radiodetection. Hope this helps. :-)

I started working for a new company and they asked me what locator I wanted, ether vivax or rd. I choose vivax because the sonde mode is easier to use. can you make a video on how to use sonde mode on rd, to prove me wrong.

What happened with this ticket? How did you locate those electric duct banks, and what access points did you hook up to? What access points do electric lines coming from substations go to?
@811chicago53 ай бұрын
This is one of the more challenging locates with these transmission lines. There are no hookup spots, you can't access the substation or ground out, and you have to maintain an 18-foot distance from the conductors and transmission towers while they're energized. It required significant time and personnel to get this locate done accurately.
