I just love to see the homes, the towns and the scenery in the UK Thank you!! I love house number one with those built in cupboard on that end of terrace....SO MUCH CHARM and potential for $200.00! I just can't see an older couple buying a home over three floors as they age....you wil regret that!!

For the young couple, i get how important location is to them and the 1st property was a nice choice. However i would have gone for the 3rd house. It was still below budget and already done up well and quite spacious too. The beautiful garden was a splendid bonus and it's biggest selling point. However, having seen the transformation to that 1st house they picked, and noting how much it cost them, still below 240, I am glad they went for it. As the saying goes, you can change a house but not it's location. For the older couple, the 1st house for 650k was a better option. For one, it had a better garden and curb appeal than the 2nd house and the layout will work well for a master's downstairs bedroom living the girls which will ensure they have their own space.

I was bothered by the lack of privacy at house #1. Front windows right on the public street, short little wall around the garden not even high enough to stop a dog jumping over, etc.

The family relocating from Hong Kong should have picked the 950K completely renovated period property, IMHO. They could have enjoyed 18 more months with their daughters before they flew the nest. That's time they'll never get back. Plus, that three story terrace house was to die for, and a better resale investment, if they ever want to move. Life is unpredictable.

Honestly, the couple preferred the first house. He wanted an investment and aesthetic control, and she didn't want to keep an enormous house. Those are great reasons already. Furthermore, buying and improving - building equity and potential savings in the area of school - are very beneficial for the kids in terms of inheritance. Getting a massive pretty house isn't always the best move.
