Thank you for posting this!! I’ve been struggling with this for a long time, two books, and couldn’t understand it till now. Of course my professor shows c-channel in class but no lips. This clarifies everything, cheers 👍👍👍👌

This is the best tutorial I could find for this problem. Thank you sir. Keep up the good work.

The moment of inertia, Ixx is incorrect. The corners of BCDE are accounted for twice, and the distance to the parallel axis for sections BC & DE are half the thickness of the wall too large. But I very much appreciate the shear flow calculations and explanation.

I think moment of inertia is wrong

Can you send me any link for Lipped C channel mkment of inertia and section modulus?

It is wrong

How can it be wrong. Looks ok to me.

@@tanzimhossain937 You see the video at 2:58. When he considered 150*6^3/12 in the first term then in the second term it should be removed some values. ok i give you the correct term Ixx = 150*6^3/12 + 2[63*6^3/12 + 63*6*(150/2-6/2)^2] + 2[6*50^3/12 + 6*50*(150/2-50/2)^2]

Interesting, but why is the shear flow linear in section AB, but parabolic in section OC? I believe that the shear flow in section AB would also be parabolic if the integration were developed.
@partheepanmvgrcivil40174 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are correct, along AB shear flow distribution is strictly not linear. But this can be assumed linear for the ease of calculation as the contribution of this region AB to moment is very small. Thank you for your observation and comment.

Hi, shouldn't the shear flow be the other way around? Since the shear force is pointing downwards.
@partheepanmvgrcivil40173 жыл бұрын
Hi Chen, Thanks for your observation. My understanding is that shear flow/stress are all internal forces developed within the section which opposes the external force.

Can't understand the Ixx ...try to explain the things with some method or reference

shear flow should be at the center line of the sections and you calculated it on the outer edges
@8CoresOcta6 ай бұрын
The thickness is treated as rather thin. You can just get the method.

while finding H i think there should not be 48750V/I. It should be H= area of triangle+ area of rectangle
@partheepanmvgrcivil40173 жыл бұрын
I have done exactly that. Area of triangle+area of rectangle=area of trapezium . I hope this helps you.
