Oh, memories. I encountered this song as a thirteen year old in 1963. I could never really learn the words as I never got to see it. I fell in love with it the song, never the less. Lovely.

We just performed this as the baritone song in our spring chorus concert. Not a lot of people enjoyed this tune, but I think it is absolutely beautiful and every time I hear it I’m brought to tears.

was this originally an Irish song or Scottish
@JPMorgan-ye5pc5 ай бұрын
@@antiChinazi I think the libretto [words] were from a poem by Scottish writer Robbie Burns.

@@antiChinazi It's 100% Scottish not Irish. The Irish sing about a wee potato growing by a red rose.🤣

I wish non Scottish singers wouldn't sing it as "me and ME true love" like some Hollywood drunken sailor. They sound like Popeye.
@JeremiahRappel6 ай бұрын
This is too rushed. It feels like they are trying to get through the song. The vocals are good but this needs to be slowed way down.
@marcstrang60183 ай бұрын
Speaking as a choral singer, they can't do it any slower. No human has enough breath to do it slower.
@marcstrang60183 ай бұрын
It was also written to be this speed.

To each their own but if you are going to sing as though you hale from the Highlands, make it at least sound like we do as opposed to an exaggerated version.

Bugger…I was listening to this thinking it sounds pretty authentic to the accent, especially the use of the word ‘me’. That said I’m from England, so what do I know😉

I love this song. I’m not Scottish, never been to the Highlands, or Loch Lomond. But If 50 Highlanders could get together and do it “right”, I’d sure like to hear it. But until then I like these guys

There's different versions and interpretations of this song. I like the original best, but if someone wants to do their own thing, sure, gopher it. This is the Jonathan Quick version.
