Lock On: Modern Air Combat - When Hogs Fly (Win10 64-bit | 1080p 60fps)

Lock On was developed by Eagle Dynamics (known as Flying Legends back in the 90's) and published by Ubisoft in late 2003.
It's a successor of Flanker series. First Flanker debuted on PC DOS in 1995 and featured one flyable plane - Sukhoi Su-27 and Crimea region as a theatre of operations. Subsequent releses introduced new flyable planes - Su-33 (Flanker 2.0) and maritime version of MiG-29, the MiG-29K (Flanker 2.5).
LO:MAC added few additional airplanes: Su-25 Frogfoot, MiG-29A Fulcrum, and highly anticipated workhorses from USAF - A-10A Thunderbolt II and F-15C Eagle.
Based on that engine ED released Flaming Cliffs, Black Shark, Flaming Cliffs 2, A-10C and eventually it all ended with DCS World which is the premiere platform for military sims today.

The game is updated with the 1.02 patch.
Due to problems with object self-shadownig on Nvidia cards I had to disable this feature.
Considering it was released 14 years ago the game still holds up nicely even today.
Back in 2002/2003, when no one even heard of KZbin - you had to download trailers from internet, anyone remembers FileShack?
Anyway, I remember seeing a trailer/gameplay video of LOMAC - in cockpit view of MIG-29 flying low level with all the trees, buildings and smoke chimneys passing by and with working mirrors. I had to collect my jaw from the floor. It was the best looking sim on the market, but it lacked the immersion of flight sims from previous decade.
I still have the first release in big box, unfortunately they didn't added proper thick manual to go with it, only 48 pages long booklet, so I was a bit dissapointed.

Wow thank you for this, truly a blast from the past. I have been with them since they were Lock on and I bought FC2. Bought many things since and awaiting Apache and other stuff coming. What an amazing world DCS now is. The fidelity, I will never be leaving, DCS is my thing. They have updated it so much in the last year most complaints I saw in posts are Null, clouds are new, models, sounds, etc and keeps getting better.

Thanks for posting. Brought me back to a time when i was committed to this sim through three historical HOTAS generations of hardware. I have used CH stick and pedals, TM Mark II FCS and Cougar, SAITEK and other products. You captured all the core elements perfectly. Awesome vid.

Thanks! I own the original first release that came in a big box. Also the second one which came with Lock On Platinum (Lock On + Flaming Cliffs 2). There are plenty of copies on ebay. You could also search for a "backup" cd image ;) on the web. But be sure to look for the first release. Lock On Flaming Cliffs (ver 1.12) came with Starforce protection which will not work on Windows 10.

Can you please help, I installed Lomac on my windows 10 PC, but the game doesn't want to run, like the "home" window where you can choose to play, register or Uninstall is there but the game doesn't want to launch at all, been trying compatibility mode but that also doesn't solve the problem. I have a lomac disc.

Flying forrmation is all about matching speeds and constant correction if you're not the flight lead. If you are the lead, just fly as you normally do, only being a bit more careful with your turns as you have people followng you. If you're flying with a mate who's not maintaining his speed, it's pretty much impossible to keep formation with them.

IIRC there are different patches, one 1.02 requires you to first install the 1.01 version, the other one installs just fine on 1.0 version but may not work if installed over 1.01 version.

I have 2 retail versions of Lock On - the original one from 2003 and the one that came in a bundle with Flaming Cliffs 2 titled "Lock On Platinum". I'm using the one from the bundle. From what I can tell it doesn't have CD check as it runs without the CD. Some older CD checks don't play nice with Windows 10, especially Securom and Safedisc which first Lock On release probably uses.

hey there. i dont know if you could help me. i have this game, in its original box. i tried to install it , it installed properly but the game wont boot up .when i press the start button on the page that pops up after i put in the cd, the page closes then comes back after a couple seconds but no game. tried to uninstall reinstall, tried compatibility modes, but nothing worked so far. how did you get it running

I'm not using any compatibility settings. Try installing 1.02 patch if you didn't already. I'm using version that came with Lock On Platinum (Flaming Cliffs 2). You can also get the digital release from Ubisoft Store.

Looks like you're trying to run Lock On Flaming Cliffs. Base game only go up to 1.02 Patch, 1.1 to 1.12 were for Flaming Cliffs, which used StarForce DRM which is not supported in Windows 10 AFAIK. I own the Flaming Cliffs digital version, bought it from the Eagle Dynamics online store, had lots of problems with that StarFoce protection even on the legit copy. After a week with StarForce tech support I got it working (it was a problem on their end with authentication). But that was many years ago when I still had Windows XP. I didn't tried to run it on anything newer.

Yes, note that with DCS World 2 you will only have NTTR (Nevada map) available. Caucasus map after upgrade will be integrated along with Nevada, Normandy and upcoming terrains in DCS World 2.5 in one tidy package.

FC2 uses StarForce online activation and you would need legit cd-key to play the sim and this key would be bound to your specific PC system specs. On top of that you had only 8 activations IIRC, so each time you installed the game you would used up this activation (though there was a way to save that activation before uninstalling).

I recommend getting Lock On Platinum Edition (look at ebay), it's a compilation of Lock On and Lock On Flaming Cliffs 2. The version of Lock On put in that release works fine without CD on Windows 10 for me.

It's older, has worse graphics, slighlty different part of black sea area is modelled (Crimea, FC2 had terrain introduced in Black Shark - no Crimea but they added eastern part - Georgia). There are also different missions and campaigns here.
