One attack at a time is never the best way to go. The most effective attacks are done in chains, one attack after another, hopefully with each new attack being set up by something your opponent did to counter the last one. The concept of attack chains applies to all control positions, not just Lockdown, but the attacks available from Lockdown are perfect for constructing long chains of attacks that keep your opponents guessing.
This is a multi-part video series covering the Lockdown position in extreme depth. If you're looking to level up your half guard game, make sure to watch the entire playlist!

We need more of this linking technics into sistems. I have a feeling that learning in jiu jutsu is all wrong and chaotic for beginers. No other combat sport has that kind of learning process. You show up, and you do a technic from a butterfly guard without learning the basics of that guard and all the micro battles in that position. I like your way of teaching.

Thanks! I've never been a big fan of just teaching single moves to people. I've always learned better if I can understand how to get to a position, and then various options of what to do once I get there. I'm trying as best I can to structure my channel that way, so I'm happy to hear that the format is helping.

This is such a great video series. I'd love to see an approach to enter lockdown against people who tuck their feet under the other to avoid lockdown. I try to use other threats from halfguard to try to expose the leg.

Hello Jeff, Im following your amazing lockdown series these days with super attention to get the most out of it and also wanna share some things. The part 13 certainly offers a lot of insights and material to practice and study because its pretty much sums it up what already we have seen till here, and i will be stucked down here for awhile to get the most out of it. That being said i would like to point that: at 03:15, instead of going for the old school to open up space for the EC, we can work a move that i call it "the castlevania move", when i whip up + whip down in a sudden to get under neath (under hooks must be already there helping on the whip up), while turning the body cacthing the other leg when whip down takes place. Im saying that because till now its a high percentage move for me to get in to the EC spot. And i wont exchange that for any sweep without some effort. Either way ive found your old school set up really very neat and will add this to my game also. I think that will be the best against heavier guys. Also, really difficult to thing right now wich path i choose if they whizzer. Boa, powder keg or plan b? The boa: if i post leg first getting more leverage and feel powerfull? Powder keg: if they get head lower and i rep this way much? Plan b: if they start to beat me to my side creating momentum? Thanks a lot sir.

What you call the "Castlevania move" is relatively similar to the whip down to electric underhooks (covered in video 3). That's not typically how I enter the electric chair if I already have double underhooks, but if it works for you then it's legit. For me, the preferred path if I come up to dog fight is ALWAYS boa if I can get it. That bodylock is just a soul stealer if you can get it. My fallback is ether coming up into a low single (which defeats the whizzer) and looking to knee tap, or if that fails, dropping to electric underhooks when they start to push back. Powder keg is rare for me as I'm not built for triangles. I'm not going to voluntarily abandon my lockdown for a semi-flying triangle if I can help it. Ultimately the attack chain that works best is the one that works best for you. You'll have to find your own money sweeps and attacks, then rep the crap out of your paths into those attacks.
