I visited another school, and some dude hit me with a full strength harai goshi. Immediate pain on the lateral knee. The pain went away after a few min and no swelling or pain the next day. Dude was super apologetic about my pain, but lesson learned.

if you snag the sankyo grip instead of the wrist then you can take out all the slack in the arm and it will be 10x more effective. you don't really have to step over cause of how tight the arm is once you twist using the sankyo grip
@CheatCodeJiuJitsu3 ай бұрын
The kimura grip offers much better control overall.
@rollinOnCode3 ай бұрын
youtu. be/NYTuiskcvx0?si=lheXVgqOfI-HGqN6 i don't know if you are familiar with the sankyo grip. but the sankyo is from aikido- it is an inward wrist twist. you pronate the entire arm by twisting the wrist. it takes out all of the slack in the joints- the ligaments, tendons, muscles, fascia by twisting it up. when you do a kimura grip, he still has quite a bit of movement in the hand, wrist, elbow even shoulder regardless if you use a thumb grip or not. but if you twist it using the sankyo grip (blocking that thumb bone and grab the meaty blade of hand vs wrist) and wrenching it, in a lot of cases you can almost finish kimura 1 handed though you can reinforce with second arm. also when you pronate the arm using the sankyo, the gap opens up so you can easily slide in the second arm.
@CheatCodeJiuJitsu3 ай бұрын
I am familiar with the sankyo grip. I use a variation of it for my twisting armlock, and it can be combined with a kimura for basically a catch double wristlock. In this position, grabbing a proper kimura grip and floating over offers significantly greater control and a better likelihood of submission.
@rollinOnCode3 ай бұрын
it is extremely unlikely that one would take the back if they are stuck in kesa gatame. there is very good control and a major leading indicator

That depends entirely on how good the top person is at controlling from kesa.

Reverse twister side…. Or kesa gatame :)
@CheatCodeJiuJitsu5 ай бұрын
Similar positions, but they are not the same. For kesa gatame I would need to have the near-side arm (Nick's left arm in the video) elevated with my leg underneath of it. If I had that, I wouldn't be doing the Armenian necktie because my opponent wouldn't be able to get up to their side. That would be an entirely different set of attacks.

Really good stuff and you have a deep understanding of the position- excellent instructional- personally I like to hip switch to Kesa from a four corner hold - leading with the hips and getting deep into the diaphragm. The only point I’d add and it’s small - we aren’t collapsing the lungs, we are collapsing the diaphragm- makes it easy to exhale and very difficult to inhale when the diaphragm is collapsed and can’t draw down to allow oxygen in. Cooking the floating rib and listening for labored breathing is key. Everyone loves Kesa 🙌

Thank you for this gold mine. I have been playing around with the lock down for a couple of months and I feel very proficient at setting it up and constantly fishing for my partners foot. However, I am still reluctant in whipping down hard because I would not like to bust someone’s knees. From this video it seems that the whip down is not actually “down”. I thought that you had to pull slightly to to your chest (up) and northwest, and then whip hard, along the mat, from northwest to southeast (or from 11 o clock to 4 o clock). However, watching this video, it seems that you start by pulling slightly up and north east, and then you whip up (to the ceiling) and directly to almost 3 o clock. Am I interpreting this right? Thank you for this great bible, I am a blue belt and am mounting my game around half guard (starting with bottom HG). The lockdown has been an amazing tool to slow down better players and I am now fully committed to going further and start using it consistently to sweep and to occasionally finish people with it. I will follow this playlist slowly but very consistently. Next few weeks will be dedicated to getting the undertook as often as possible so your feedback on this whip down would be greatly appreciated! Again thanks so much (channel subscribed, is there any website where we can donate something to support your content?)

Isn't there an option for a choke when you first start switching at the 3:12 mark?
@CheatCodeJiuJitsu10 ай бұрын
Yes, you can do a reverse arm triangle (or RAT choke). I don't generally find that to be a high-percentage finish, so I don't go for it much. I'd rather keep going to get the darce, which is a much better choke and has more bailout options if the guy is defending.

It would be hard to say for sure without knowing more, but the general tips are the same. Avoid flaring your knee out while you have inward pressure being applied to the outside of your ankle. If you are feeling it at the beginning of the movement, try pulling your knee closer to your chest before moving your foot in front of their face.

Hello Jeff, Im following your amazing lockdown series these days with super attention to get the most out of it and also wanna share some things. The part 13 certainly offers a lot of insights and material to practice and study because its pretty much sums it up what already we have seen till here, and i will be stucked down here for awhile to get the most out of it. That being said i would like to point that: at 03:15, instead of going for the old school to open up space for the EC, we can work a move that i call it "the castlevania move", when i whip up + whip down in a sudden to get under neath (under hooks must be already there helping on the whip up), while turning the body cacthing the other leg when whip down takes place. Im saying that because till now its a high percentage move for me to get in to the EC spot. And i wont exchange that for any sweep without some effort. Either way ive found your old school set up really very neat and will add this to my game also. I think that will be the best against heavier guys. Also, really difficult to thing right now wich path i choose if they whizzer. Boa, powder keg or plan b? The boa: if i post leg first getting more leverage and feel powerfull? Powder keg: if they get head lower and i rep this way much? Plan b: if they start to beat me to my side creating momentum? Thanks a lot sir.
@CheatCodeJiuJitsu Жыл бұрын
What you call the "Castlevania move" is relatively similar to the whip down to electric underhooks (covered in video 3). That's not typically how I enter the electric chair if I already have double underhooks, but if it works for you then it's legit. For me, the preferred path if I come up to dog fight is ALWAYS boa if I can get it. That bodylock is just a soul stealer if you can get it. My fallback is ether coming up into a low single (which defeats the whizzer) and looking to knee tap, or if that fails, dropping to electric underhooks when they start to push back. Powder keg is rare for me as I'm not built for triangles. I'm not going to voluntarily abandon my lockdown for a semi-flying triangle if I can help it. Ultimately the attack chain that works best is the one that works best for you. You'll have to find your own money sweeps and attacks, then rep the crap out of your paths into those attacks.
@BJJourney Жыл бұрын
This is amazing. Specially that im bad to hit triangle from closed guard due to short legs. I have to rep this one out and see by myself. By the way your dojo is super clean, cozy, and well organized. Pleasure to see it. Big Oss.

i absolutely love kesa gatame and the compression choke. it sucks to be under but it is very fun to play. to really get the compression, you need to first center your weight directly on their upper chest. and cause you are a bit too far across the opponent, you make an adjustment to correct your center by PULLING your ass straight through the opponent chest by using your legs. and finally you just elevate the head w your leg and RELAX. when you relax, you feel your weight really sink into the guy and you can really feel the breath leave his body. the position really attacks the stamina and energy of the opponent the longer you maintain it

This is actually not illegal in wrestling. At least not in Freestyle. I've actually used it in competition quite a bit. They usually just let go of their body lock, and get pinned immediately. It's illegal to bend the arm 45 degree behind the back, but here opponent's arm never goes behind his body making it completely legal.
