Lockdown Locos - Episode 3

Something new to hopefully keep us entertained during the coronavirus lockdown! In each episode I literally spin the wheel (made by me out of some spare card) and I have to choose either a steam, diesel, electric or multiple unit train to have a quick look at! Let me know what you think, please feel free to make some suggestions and I hope you find it quirky!

Great video Will! It’s like the old Will is slowly coming back with your humour, railway enthusiasm and infectious good nature. You’ve been through some bad times, like a lot of the country is now, and you’re lifting our mood! Hello, glad to see your back posting. I enjoy watching your videos, have done for a long time now. I think it will be a good idea to have multiple Lockdown Loco videos a week, the more the merrier haha but 2 or 3 a week would be brilliant if you are able to do it. If you do 2 a week you could post one on Monday to start the week off and the second on Friday to end the week. If you did 3 videos I think Monday, Wednesday and Friday is a good idea.😊

Nice video Will. In terms of the 86s they will be going soon because they are being replaced by ex Greater Anglia Class 90s. If nobody preserves them they will probably be sent to scrap yard to be scrapped unfortunately. If you have time go onto Railcam and see the 86s hauling freight up and down the West Coast Mainline.

Yes that is right Lee Clarke, Will mentioned the Class 86 as a Rail Freight Distribution when in fact the symbol is a Rail Freight General Sub-sector, an example of a RFD is on the Class 90 (bottom left on the self).

I must admit I'm quite enjoying thus series so far. Perhaps it could continue when the lock-down is over, but with the name changed to something like 'What's Will Running Today?'. I can't really think of a better name. When you said the Class 86 was your favourite electric engine, it reminded me of what my favourite electric is - and that's the KiwiRail EF class (or just EF).

I recommend you try doing about 2-3 Lockdown Locos in the railway room next, then swap back to the conservatory. But, you can obviously do it however you'd like. Keep up the good work! :D

i regularly see 86s on the north london line however the end is near the greater anglia class 90s are replacing them also i advise using a cylinder lego bit with the 1 stud one sandwitched so the spinny thing stops falling off

Love the class 86 I have the Frank Hornby version it's a great runner. maybe yours needs an overhaul. Virgin trains had both classes 86 and 87 .one of the main difference is the number of front windows Poor those Thomas on the window in the sun

I've been wondering lately, do you live in North Wales, perhaps Bangor because that's we're I live and you said once a train passed by and trains pass by my house and I live one hour away from Llangollen and that's what you said in your video there and you did a regional railways locomotive that had Welsh on it

I think 2 lockdown locos episodes a week would be a good option. Also just idea. Maybe you could add in another spinning wheel which chooses either an analogue, dcc fitted or dcc/TTS sound model. So you chose the type of loco first then chose weather it’s an analogue, dcc or dcc/TTS sound model. Just an idea that came to me. Not saying you have to do it. Great vid though. Keep up the good work. 👍

About 30 class 86s are owned by Freightliner and work the intermodal Freight trains and pass Crewe daily!

Hey Will! I hope you and your family are doing well! I personally think 2 episodes per week would be a reasonable amount to shoot for. But do whatever you feel like! Also, it was really cool that you decided to go with the Class 86, because my Dad recently ordered the American equivalent of it, (known as the E60CP in Amtrack livery) for my upcoming birthday! Also, can I make a suggestion for the series? If you really wanted to get ultra specific with the locomotive of choice, you could do a “size” wheel. Basically, the wheel will have a range of locomotive sizes. Small, Intermediate, and Large. Small will be your 0-4-0's, 0-6-0's, etc. Intermediate will be your 2-6-0's, 2-8-0's, and similar wheel configs. Large will be like longer tender engines (Like the 2 tender Flying Scottsman) and generally larger diesel classes, like the Class 58 or Class 37! I thought that would be a neat idea if you wanted to be more specific with your locomotive of choice. Anyway, thanks for providing amazing content as always! Another great video! I think 3 would be great, your channel is one of the best on KZbin. If it is possible for you, 3 would be ideal, Love from India ! I also have a Hornby Flying Scotsman, the parts are really delicate, where do you get reinforcements to put on the track ? 3:37 - Little collection ? That is huge, you must have spent hundreds of pounds on all of it. They are pretty expensive. Wonderful video once again :)

umm they havent all gone... FL still use them atm and will do into the future. theres not enough 90 sets to replace all of the 8, 86 sets in formation so unless (which freightliner never do which is run the 90's in single which unless they are regeard which iv heard they arnt) wont happen their will still be 86's for the next upcomming years.

will! i have and idea! so spin the normal wheel! if it land on steam. you do a steam loco. then you make another wheel then put railways/ livery names on it then what ever railway/livery it lands on you will need to pick loco in that color. like you get a steam gwr livery/railway thing you will need to pick gwr livery steam loco!!!!!!!!!!! thanks!! just thought it was a cool idea!!

I have a class 86 - 86243 in BR blue, The Boys' Brigade. Runs ok but bought off ebay for display rather than running. No way I was going to try and retro fit a DCC chip in a 30 year old model for starters. It does run though and looks great. Have some metal name plates to add over the printed ones too. Dapol have done a N gauge version of the 86.

Why not, if there is a sound chip and you are happy to solder away. I'd be scared of breaking my model. Main reason I bought it was as it was the BB loco, being a BB member and leader so I had it as a collectable.
