That was the point behind the depth charges-to flatten the hull to the point where it would be very difficult to get inside the hull. Modern technology now allows explorers to get in anyway.

The British Admiralty wanted to hide the explosive war cargo she was carrying. One torpedo stuck her and then there was a second explosion which blew a hole in her bottom. One Torpedo shouldn't of sunk her that fast or at all. 18 minutes and she was at the bottom.

@@johnsepulveda443 that is not true, if u have no clue about this ship, why comment mate, do ur research, well the facts are " lusitania was in great shape in the 60-70s. we literally have sketch from divers, it broke down in 80-90s beyond recognition due to the structural failure. there was no british bombing, no depth chargers. thank me mate

I can't help but feel they are crawling through a rotting corpse! It's not a ship nor the skeleton of a ship but the rotting body of a ship, with its innards strewn all about. Considering all that is shards of rusting iron and steel, that looks foolishly dangerous!

People have died while diving the HMHS Britannic which is in better condition and you have more visibility every wreck that a diver dives to is dangerous

Gregg Bemis owned the wreck for a long time. He donated ownership to the Lusitania Museum in Kinsale. He died shortly after.

Time and tide has not been kind to the wreckage, depth charges too if that rumor is correct (misidentified as sub in later war). I know it’s common and probably not worth the risk but it’d be nice to see group of divers try to remove some of the old fishing nets.

Titanic landed AMAZINGLY upright, as did her stern, that really is miraculous. By doing so, all the stresses are under the design of the ship, she was designed to carry her weight...in an upright position. The Lusitania unfortunately landed on her side. Thusly, the loads were in an awkward situation and over time she collapsed down upon herself.

@@randomrazr she's been heavily damaged by humans removing parts of her to see deeper into the wreck. Also there is very strong currents that have been damaging her. But that person is slightly incorrect, because titanic is being eaten away by large metal-eating rusticles and will be gone within 30 years.

That's a lot of apparatus these divers have on their backs. How long are the ale to stay down? Most of what I see is rusty, twisted up, barnacle encrusted scrap metal. To be expected after all those years in the ocean.

It has always been my understanding that (like the ANDREA DORIA and EMPRESS OF IRELAND), that dives to the LUSITANIA are extremely hazardous (due, I believe, to the swift currents), and that only divers who are the most experienced are permitted to dive on her. Is that true?

Yes, but they only found packed small arms (mostly .303 from what I can tell). This is in line with the cargo manifests iirc

I like the video and I think it's actually very good, but I had to mute it after a bit due to the music. While I like both the movie The Last of the Mohicans and the musical piece, I feel it was truly only good for introducing your crew, or the crew, but a tad too much for such a somber thing, as visiting the Lusitania is and should be.

That happened with quite a few wrecks. Iirc during the Cold War an American destroyer accidentally put death charges on what they thought was a Soviet sub. Turned out they actually most likely obliterated the remains of the USS Tang, a very successful American submarine sunk during WW2

@@norms3913 read it many years ago in a 1970's magazine called Omni. The hull was upside down, most of it had collapsed in. Apparently some of the damage was caused by wartime depth charges. They recovered the screw first then later the entire turret. But as then was under the hull I'm guessing that most of the hull is now destroyed. But it would have fallen apart due to its age anyway.

The bad condition is mainly due to it being in shallow water where a lot of different organisms thrive that eat away at it. Unlike the titanic which is in very deep water where much fewer of these organisms can survive and eat away at it
