One thing you missed is that devs also discussed a earlier concept of the Emerald Dream. That it was intended to be a zone that you only could quest in while dead. So you would be leveling and accidently die and suddenly you are in the Emerald Dream version of whatever zone you were in and opened a bunch of new quests. To get out you would go to one of the four Emerald Portals. But that concept obviously didn't make it

Also there was a whole raid in Legion that took place in the Emerald Dream being corrupted by the Nightmare, called Emerald Nightmare, where at the end you were taken to a small, uncorrupted version of the Emerald Dream.

It's interesting to see how much was planned for the emerald dream in vanilla and how interwoven it was in a lot of quests and dialogue. I knew about the cut zone for years but it's interesting to see how much foreshadowing and setup they were doing for it, even early on.

The emerald dream as a neighboring dimension, being corrupted by Great Old Ones is a Lovecraftian notion I can totally get behind

The green clouds look really creepy Oo Thanks for another great video! The farthest I managed in my explorations during classic was the impassable portal in Mount Hyjal. So, it's really great to see what real explorers did to find hidden worlds.

The green smoke was a hoax made up by the voidwalkerclan. Unfortunately you could not port in to the emerald dream.

0:20 I knew it was alluded to in Classic but I didn't think it was THAT early. That was one of the first quests I ever did. To think the road to finally see it for the first time would take so many harrowing twists and turns.

Considering the entire point of SoD is to be a test for Classic +, actually finishing Hyjal and the Emerald Dream raid with new tier sets is the very least I expect from Blizzard

I like how they still found a way for it to be "very core to druids" by having it be a source of the long awaited new druid customizations for things like moonkin after Legion gave so many iconic cat/bear forms but only the slightest taste of the Dream as a zone.

The Emerald Dream had a crucial role in Warcraft III already, with some descriptions of it in the game's manual: "The enchanted, ethereal green dragons live only to serve the forces of nature and uphold the balance between mortal creatures and the ever-evolving world. The green Dragonflight, ruled by the dreaming goddess, Ysera, holds a special love for the night elves and their druids. Though most green dragons live within the mystical dimension known as the Emerald Dream, a few of the graceful creatures still roam the shadowy paths of Ashenvale forest." "Ysera, the Dreamer, also placed an enchantment upon the World Tree by linking it to her own realm, the ethereal dimension known as the Emerald Dream. The Emerald Dream, a vast, ever-changing spirit world, existed outside the boundaries of the physical world. From the Dream, Ysera regulated the ebb and flow of nature and the evolutionary path of the world itself. The night elf druids, including Furion himself, were bound to the Dream through the World Tree. As part of the mystical pact, the druids agreed to sleep for centuries at a time so that their spirits could roam the infinite paths of Ysera's Dreamways." Although its understandable many did not know this, since the game manual wasn't easy to access for most players. Still, the Emerald Dream was described pretty well long before WoW even released :D

In interviews the SoD team has mentioned players exploring the huge gate in azshara which has never been opened. It will likely be a raid called the deepbarrows underneath mount hyjal. If they are making a raid underneath mount hyjal then they will probably release mount hyjal as a raid or zone too. If mount hyjal becomes a zone then the emerald dream would probably become a raid in SoD!🎉

ngl I was a little disappointed with how the DF version came out. My favorite version was probably the Emerald Nightmare after you kill Xavius version.
