That's *why* the AI kept the door locked- it knew that that agonizing mystery would keep him going. And then, as he's finally given up, and is about to end himself, the AI buys a little more time by opening the door, again stopping him from doing it, keeping him alive

I feel like since the AI's main goal was to keep the crew members alive it had to isolate them because of the state of the other one who had her heart out in the open. If the main character had been able to see her beforehand she may have asked him to put her out of her misery and so logically the AI stopped this by separating them until help arrived.

That is a clever ending, because it gets darker the more you think about it. That woman was probably dead the second help arrived since the AI shutdown once its task was done, and the guy only survived because his curiosity about the door kept him driven enough to survive, hence why it only opened when he was about to defy the directive and let himself die. The AI played it's part well as it did its job to every end, good or bad, but they did all survive until help arrived. And the Iguana, definitely the main villain, there is no mercy in those reptilian eyes.
@Shipwright1918 Жыл бұрын
This is why you need to be really specific and exacting when you give an A.I. instructions, any loopholes or wiggle room for interpretation leads down the roads of "gone horribly wrong" and/or "gone horribly right". I'd say we've got a bit of both going on here, the directive was "Keep All Crewmembers Alive Until Rescue Arrives". Technically speaking, mission accomplished, all the crewmembers (even the iguana) did stay alive until the rescue ship arrived. In real terms, you've got one crewmember who's still alive and probably traumatized for the rest of his life, the other two became some sort of geiger-esque bio-fusion that stayed alive just long enough for the other ship to arrive (the heartbeat stops). As the old programmer's maxim goes, "Garbage in, Garbage out."

I have *never* been this early to a Dead Sound film before and I am amazed by the storytelling! Here are my two cents on this film: I think the AI called Betty is responsible for keeping the other crew mate alive. Firstly, we know that the wires holding her intact are yellow, which rules out the possibility that the plant is keeping her alive since the plant is mainly identified by the colors orange, pink and green. Secondly, the protagonist thinks of what’s behind the door when he eats a fruit containing wires, which could suggest that the AI is involved with it. Also, I think the other crew mate dies at the end of the film when rescue arrives since we no longer hear her heartbeat. I think due to the specific nature of AI programming, the directive of “keeping all crew mates alive UNTIL rescue arrives” meant that it no longer had a reason to keep her alive. This also adds a more sinister level to the “you’re welcome” line. As for the plant, the notes on the photograph state that it is “thriving” and since the other crew mate is labeled as “dead”, we can assume this was written after her disappearance. This could possibly mean that the reason why the plant was thriving is because it had taken the crew mate. I also suspect that the iguana was involved with her disappearance, after all, it was called “traitorous” of all things. But anyway, I shall cease my rambling. I enjoyed this film a lot and thank you so much David for continuing to create works of art like this :)

“There’s an ecosystem here it keeps me alive I keep it alive” we at least know the mad crew mate was somehow contributing to the ship staying online so the “dead” crew mates were probably doing the same. @rey2732 жыл бұрын
@@sealedtugboat9965 oh, like how before breathing machines existed in modern medicine they would hook up a patient’s circulatory system to a volunteer’s when they needed to do open heart surgery. makes sense. the dead crewmates are providing the breathing (co2) to the plants (who provide o2 and food) while the habitat around the crewmembers slowly dissolve into carbon and other trace elements to give the plants the ability to take form. and in return, i bet things like feces and other things get recycled into plant life as well. after a while, if we assume the oxgynater is broken, condensation will build up on the walls and ceiling from the crewmen breathing and make a “rain”. plants actually dont use a lot of nutrients in the soil to grow- its mostly carbon they eat from the air that gets turned into cellular structures. so you don’t have to worry about limited air if you have enough plants around you. all you really need is sunlight- or whatever this blue phenomenon that they were researching. i wonder if that fucked up the plants enough to put wires and screws into apples. also- did you notice that there was only one plant originally? it’s all one big plant- like those birch trees that are actually a single organism.
@sealedtugboat99652 жыл бұрын
@@rey273 I hadn’t noticed that it’s all one plant but it makes sense. After all why spread seeds for new plants when there’s no soil or extra nutrients to soak up? Just growing outward gradually is more easy.(or maybe rapidly since it had to stabilize the “dead” crewmates.) I think it’s definitely possible that the apple did actually have debris inside it maybe the screw got lodged in the apple and the genetic modification caused it to re-grow around the screw? it’s hard to tell if that was in the dream or not though.

Yeah, it tries to keep humans alive. Kind of. Yeah...

Well, I mean..........the order was to keep them alive, not sane. Reminds me of that one animation of dude flying in a house spaceship, because earth was uninhabitable, and unable to colonise any planet because the AI had directive to let him out only if the planet was ideal for him. Which none of them were.

That little "You're welcome" at the end is so short but adds another punch with the final reveal. The AI really did plan and account for everything in order to achieve it's directive.

I loved the lovecraftian vibe. The hint of madness among despair. Really stunning stuff! I love your work!. :))

There aren't any words that have been created or are known by man kind to describe how extraordinary and enthralling your films are. Keep up the fantastic work David James Armsby, and happy holidays. Edit: I also look forward to the making of videos!

A happy ending is sometimes more unexpected than a unhappy one in scifi.

Happy, really? The crewmate’s heart stops beating at the end.

I'm not sure if i'd call that a "happy ending"
