"Locked Doors" was a really weird film to make, and this behind-the-scenes was pretty bizarre to put together too. 14 days of work, spread over 3 and a half years. "Locked Doors" is both my shortest and longest animation production simultaneously. Hope you enjoy my descent into madness! XD

The concept for the film is genius. I really like that theme of biomechanical monsters that appears constantly in you work. This short film is simple, but it packed a lot of background information for being a short film which I imagine would be difficult to do, especially when you were making this you were slowly descending into madness yourself. So I applaud you, I really liked this film. Edit: I wanna mention, I know exactly how you felt. And when I mean “exactly” I mean *exactly* I literally had to create a 3D animation in 9 hours for a competition, I might’ve went insane myself, I was far too tired and frustrated. But I won the competition which was sort of worth it :’D
@lbackerl2 жыл бұрын
I know exactly what you mean. You have all those ideas in your head and you know what to do but don't really know how to start or continue. But you as the creator know exactly how much potential these films have. Just always know this, there is no rush even if it takes 2 years just to pick it back up. You can use the experience you gathered in these 2 years and make your project even better! I really hope you continue doing what you're doing. Always remember this: "We are artists, and a true artist does not define success based on the approval from others. A true artist need only please himself.". With regards.

Honestly, my jaw dropped and I went completely silent for the rest of the film when I saw what was behind the door. I had so many thoughts running through my mind before it opened, and then they were all abruptly deleted and replaced with new ones after the fact. Now I'm going through all the comments and watching this video and seeing all the things I missed and am looking at it differently, and am honestly just having my mind blown away from it. That rushed pacing was honestly perfect as it gave me enough time to form ideas and gain curiosity of my own from what I was seeing, but not enough time for me to fully process those thoughts so when the reveal came, it suddenly caught me in the most vulnerable place I could have been in while watching and I think that had the greatest effect. I would love to see more shorter films like this, and to hear more of your ideas that you've shelved.

Absolutely love "making of" videos. Show the viewers the astronomical amount of work that goes into something we the viewer finish and enjoy in a short amount of time. Puts the whole "short" into perspective. I'm always impressed at how much work animators and artists in general put into ther projects and it's something that is easily overlooked because we only ever see the finished project as the consumer.

honestly the pacing makes sense for the video as we are viewing things through the eyes of the man gone mad. We start off kinda slow and to the point as the man rationalizes his situation but quickens in pace the deeper into insanity he goes. We feel the maddening pace of his mind as it races to rationalize what could be behind that door and, what is surprising is that everything his mind thinks of is true. A hot woman- his co-researcher and possible love interest dressed up for a date, possibly before the whole mission fiasco. A traitorous iguana (favorite line in the film) was indeed there, though if it was a traitor is up for question, a brick wall- a dead end quite literally, an alien- what the woman, plant and iguana became, and his dead body- he knew he was gonna die after he finds out what behind that door. As for a copy of himself, i believe that's his mind putting a body to the AI he has been speaking to for the last couple of months.

It depicted slipping into the madness, and I think chaos and confusion go along with it, so… everything was in its place. I was still a bit unsure that the thing he saw behind the locked door was real, because who could be sure at that point? Might be as well treacherous backstabbing iguana crewmember. I liked it a lot, the only concerning thing is what you did to yourself in the middle of the project. I’ve done the same stuff before when I needed (and wanted) things to be done, but it does no good to health, both mental and physical. As creative person I understand the urge to finish the project, to push your limits and the commitment to the product you’re making. I know how it feels. I’ve never used energy drinks though, but I consumed liters of coffee and tea and suffered weeks of sleep deprivation and I did this to myself willingly because I had limited time to finish the projects. Those projects came out surprisingly well done for someone who was far beyond sanity at the moment. But I must say I always gave myself some time to cook food (boil eggs or steam some veggies, for example, it’s quick and efficient and you don’t have to stay in the kitchen while they are cooked) and to have a quick shower because it was an energy boost. And I also took short naps (an hour or two) when my mind was too tired to concentrate. I know it was bad, but being the only student without proper educational background in the fashion school Master course was stressing. I felt like I’m going to fail any moment because I didn’t know basic tools everyone else used, and so on. It was challenging, and pandemic added to the stress levels, but it was ok in the end.
