@JulesVonBasslake2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, no bypasses, made from good materials, the backup lock being a disc detainer is a huge plus as it takes special tools to even pick and skill to do even relatively quickly. This thing may actually be worth the price. Depends on how many digits the code can be, since that can be brute forced quite fast with just five digits. Five to the power of five (assuming five digits long code) is only 3125 options. If we say that entering the code and the lock resetting takes 5 seconds, that leaves us with 625 seconds to try each combination, so a bit over ten minutes. But still, most curious adolescents would probably give up after trying the more obvious answers, at least if the parents are home.
@lightweight19742 жыл бұрын
@@JulesVonBasslake Not sure about this one, but some e-locks will go non-functional for 10 minutes or so if too many failed attempts. This would make brute force take quite a bit longer.

A company responding to product criticism in a positive manner is an honorable company. Due to LPL's video and their response, I purchased two of their Lifepod products and love them. Win-win overall. The company receives more sales, LPL shows he's not out to get companies but just trying to improve the industry, and I have a safe vetted by the master himself. I spent a long while before buying gun safe because I was skeptical of many brand's security based on LPL's and other's videos, all showing how easy it is to get into them. With ensuring safety against adolescents being my #1 concern, a video like this is really reassuring to me.

Stopping some adolescents is harder than stopping any normal intruder. When I was 14 I got access to my father's keys for 30 minutes and had a hand filed copy ready to go (already had a blank I bought). It was for porn (early 80s), our guns weren't locked- how could we go shoot when he wasn't home if they were locked up? The only way he could have stopped me is if he never took the keys out of his pocket, and wore them to bed. Pants on the floor and I would have had my copy.
@EnsignLovell2 жыл бұрын
@sewagii You clearly must have not watched the video, the company made a new safe, the problem was not present. Just because someone engineering it can have a minor oversight, doesn't mean they are a bad company. I mean they literally sent out kits and made their customers aware of the flaw, didn't just sweep it under the proverbial rug. Yes this comment does make sense, it is about the video, the company in the video, and that company's products. If a company is willing to acknowledge and fix their short comings within a matter of days, that's a good company, doesn't matter if they made a mistake, as long as it is not made again and they learn from it enforcing new policies due to it.

Dear Lock Picking Lawyer: Thank you for reviewing this safe. I just got this for my son at college. He takes meds that are very attractive to steal. His feedback on the safe: (1) It is very heavy and the metal is not bendable with a fork. (2) There is an app that he downloaded to his phone that will alert if anyone is tampering with the box. (3) It has multiple ways to open (key/code) for backup. Finally & probably most important it cannot be opened with a fork which are widely available on college campuses. Thank you for reviewing this safe. It is an excellent addition for his college dorm. Best - One happy Mama

I like how he points out that no handgun safe is going to resist much of any destructive attacks. That's just unreasonable to expect a portable handgun box to resist, say, an angle grinder. But yet a lot of people go "pfft I could just cut it open". That's _missing the point entirely_ to be honest. Here we have a product that is reasonably difficult to pick open, as LPL correctly states, requires specialized tools and the knowledge of what you need to pick it open as well as the skills to actually do so, and there's no cheap and easy ways to stuff a bit of thin metal in-between the seam to pop something inside of it, nor can you just simply use a magnet to engage some mechanism inside of the box. A competent product, a little pricey, but is $230 worth more than someone's life? Absolutely not.

LPL, my mother came from a travel, and she lost of of her baggage's key. It was a small lock and we were a little worried that we would need to break it. I asked for a Paperclip and a clamp, since i don't have picking tools. Used the paperclip as a pick and the clam as a tension wrench, took me around 10~11min, but i got my first pick and opened the lock ❤️ Thanks for the videos, i feel like it helped me a lot with the pins and all. My father said it was useless knowledge a while ago, but i kept watching, and it helped me!

I really love when companies actually heard to those who deeply know what they say. The reaction and response to the flaw detected by LPL was, IMO, the perfect one: contact LPL, fix the flaw in next version, release a fixing kit for those clients who already own one. Just the way that things should be fixed when someone screws it up. I hope every company would react this admirable (and also the smartest) way. Well done, LPL, and very good job of those at VaulTek, congrats to everyone.

Yeah, I think the next thing Vaultek needs to do is implement a # of password fails feature if it does not already have one. Like, if you fail the code 5 times in a row, it sets off the beeping until the real code is entered. That way, if Jimmy tries to open it by brute forcing the code, his parents will know about it unless he gets insanely lucky and guesses it within 5 tries.
@norwegiangadgetman2 жыл бұрын
@@Dhalin He could try one or two codes each day that the parent takes the gun to the range because a successful opening will clear the counter. But yeah, that will take some time. And if the parents guess, and reset the code, it could take even longer.

We can expect around 500.000 views in short term, with people coming back because of comments, it can be around 300k to 400k people reached. 150k to 200k from lands where gun safes are common, around 75k to 100k from households with guns maybe... around 25k to maybe 40k makes decisions about purchasing safes (others are either teens, kids or their partners buy these things, etc), most of them already have gun safes or better storage for their handguns, so around maybe less than 5k plan viewers plan to buy a gun safe in next 12 months... So that massive run is unlikely. But people who search for videos and reviews about their products might encounter this video later, they will create a bit more views, but while those views are maybe tens of thousands people in the long run, they actually represent people who check various options and will buy gun safes. Some of the videos might get linked from store pages, etc... and these reviews will translate to sales at that time.

Seems like a good lock to me. Though my main concern for locks or codes I dont want my family or people I know to get into is them learning the code or swiping the key. As a cheeky little youth I recall breaking into these numpads all the time simply be either guessing the code (most people use the same codes so if you learn one you learn em all), watching for when the code gets punched in and then using it later, or even looking at marks on the numbers to see which are pressed and narrow it down from there through deduction. I did all 3 of these under the age of 10 (though not to a gun safe) so its something to keep in mind.

"Customer service" like the service this company displayed when they weren't even contacted is why I'm willing to pay more for a product even if it's exactly the same as sold by someone else at a reduced price. Walmart of all places went above and beyond within a minute of me hitting "send message" yesterday for some deliveries with both missing and damaged parts I had ordered online. No, I'm not paid and wouldn't write this if it was just a one time thing or "fluke" if you will as this is the third time in three months they have surprised me with excellent customer service with a quick solution. It's a shame more companies based on security don't reach out to the LPL so it's definitely worth remembering the ones that do.

Good to know, I definitely think it's important to remember that if someone is willing and prepared to destroy a locking container that they can get into even those huge "safe" type comtainers which people store their guns in. Ideally I would want to figure put a place to put this that would make it difficult to find or destroy if it's in a vehicle and as for home this is a nice way of making sure there's an extra barrier between a gun and a child.
