In this case, keep in mind most people’s mailboxes aren’t locked. Apartments just have the law because of the density of mail in one spot. They don’t want criminals taking the whole bank of mail from the building, not necessarily to stop any single box from being robbed

Many people use their keys with force. Not allowing the key setting itself properly. That wears out the pins faster, so the original key opens the lock with more difficulty.

Of course, USPS has lost money for the last decade and a half probably (they stated 13 years which is why Trump pulled their funding a few years ago) The staff at many places in Urban areas especally are pure trash in terms of service, likeability and effeciency. You have people old as dirt working there refusing to retire and allow new younger workers in (Not my problem if you failed to save up money and do what's needed before you hit 65 if I did that myself it would be my fault as well) get out and let people get jobs. Then a lot of females are overweight middle age women behind the counter whom do not like to move around with any sense of urgency to get the pick up lines down faster and drivers are failing to deliver so the pick up lines are MASSIVE. I've worked for UPS both on the truck and Warehouse, I currently work in a warehouse office that deals with warehouse staff as a Sales analyst (we ship and sale over 1 mil products a year) I've worked for Sprint Corporate and Bestbuy so I know about face to face sales and service. USPS is my number #2 most hated entity in terms of service so far, MTA being #1. There are so many easy fixes USPS could impliment to just run things smooth but they choose not to; AND they get paid pretty well especailly the longer you're their. I also sell stuff online and I've shipped over 410 packages via USPS in the last 2 years so I have a ton of expereince with USPS and their staff behaviour. There are some great locations and staff, but a lot of stuff needs fixing with USPS and many locations are garbage. Fitness test should be one thing to implement for drivers AND counter staff, they should 100% add an age limit to hiring, and Customer service skills should be taught to staff. I shouldn't be treated better at Chic-Fil-A than at a government entity by a government paid employee it's beyond rediculous. I have a picture in my phone of a Wall to wall packed USPS facility with people waiting for Pick up and management was there and did nothing to assist.
@Jerakk30
@Jerakk30 2 жыл бұрын
@@kickgryhmez7015 "USPS is my number #2 most hated entity in terms of service so far," You mean it's your #1 most loved entity in terms of service.. because USPS delivers your packages.. and FedEx's packages, and everyone else's packages. In fact.. if it wasn't for the USPS both FedEx and UPS would have been out of business a LONG time ago. Every logistics company in the US DEPENDS ON the USPS.. as well as every US citizen. The issue with the USPS in regards to staffing, logistics, service, etc.. is the fact that it's a government entity that receives NO FUNDING from the US government. None.. at all. Seeing as they're a constitutionally mandated entity as well.. that means they MUST OPERATE FULL STOP regardless of if they make a profit or not. This creates the majority of the problems you're complaining about. The USPS must always be in service, MUST deliver packages REGARDLESS of who they're through (a regular person, a commercial enterprise, or another logistics company). The only money they can really make is basically on stamps and priority mail service.. that's about it. While FedEX/UPS do pay the USPS to deliver their ground packages... it's not NEARLY enough to cover the expenses involved.

In fact, it's happened a number of times that I show up to replace the lock at the same time the mailman is there and every single one of them was happy to open the main door to give me access to the U clip to slip it out. I think it was more likely a bid. The lock need would've likely been a contract, and the company that could do it the cheapest was given the job. That's usually how government issue stuff works, and it's also why having the government completely control any resource is a terrible idea. It will be done as cheaply and inefficiently as possible so your tax dollars go into a small hole in the ground where a lit match will be dropped during this year's government funding meeting and barbeque

There are also a lot of mailboxes still out there with no locks. A mailbox lock mostly just serves as an extra step plus requiring intent I suppose. Which is kinda okay I guess. @@jeffreyfreeland5942Depends on the application. I'm pretty sure you could install a digital lock without making it noticeable from the outside, so you could connect your phone to it and pretty much have a secure mailbox, at least against 99% of the possible attackers. Only downside is that if it ever stops working you might need to break the entire thing open. You might think "that isn't safe because people can hack those locks!" or find any other exploits (like the common magnet exploit), but anyone trying to steal your mail will have no idea that you have this lock installed, they weren't prepared for it and most likely don't think it is worth the effort. So unless it is a targeted attack and someone REALLY wants to get your mail, you don't need to worry about software updates or anything else really... Ofc this would change if it becomes common practice, but by that time there would be proper solutions for you to choose from.

As another said here; locks only keep honest people out. There were customers who lost their keys and then tried to scam us in getting a free lock change. If they did not give us a key when making a repair request in person or meet us at the box with a key, then we would not change the lock until fee was paid at post office. @@thomaswill37 The Hog Rider is a fast ground troop with medium hitpoints, low damage, and the ability to jump over enemy Walls. He is unlocked at level 2 Dark Barracks. The Hog Rider (person) is a bare-chested dark-skinned man holding a hammer. He has a mohawk, wears a brown leather loincloth, a red belt, and a pair of leather sandals, as well as two large golden wristbands and a gold earring. His ride is a large hog, about half his height. It has a brown leather bridle looped around its tusks, which in turn is held by the Hog Rider. Hog Riders prioritize defensive structures above all other targets, and will bypass all other types of enemy buildings and troops while any defenses remain on the battlefield. This is true even if they are under attack by enemy Clan Castle troops, heroes or Skeleton Trap skeletons. Note that like all troops that prioritize defenses, Hog Riders do not consider the Clan Castle to be a defense regardless of whether or not it contains enemy troops, but do consider the defending Grand Warden and the activated Town Hall weapon (if any) to be defensive buildings. Once all defenses are destroyed, Hog Riders become like any other troop with no preferred target; they will attack the nearest building to them regardless of type, and will turn and attack enemy units if they become aware of any nearby. Strategy Offensive He can be used to jump over any level Walls, rendering them ineffective against Hog Riders. Note that while this allows Hog Riders free access to what lies behind the Walls, it does not open up gaps for other troops to move through. If the Hog Riders need the support of other ground troops, you will still need to deploy Wall Breakers, a Jump Spell, or Earthquake Spells in order to assist them. Hog Riders can be used en masse, i.e. a "Hog Rider Rush", without requiring any Wall Breakers to break Walls. However, such a strategy can be costly in terms of Dark Elixir, and sports weaknesses against defending Clan Castle troops, Heroes, Giant Bombs, and Skeleton Traps, a problem which only becomes more prominent at higher levels. At Town Hall 10 and above, Hog Riders can be combined with Miners in a strategy known as Hog Miner or Hybrid. Both troops are able to bypass Walls innately, but Miners do not have a preferential target, allowing them to cover for Hog Riders by dealing with defending Heroes and Skeleton Traps. The combination also has weaknesses against flying Clan Castle troops, as neither are able to target air. At lower levels, Hog Riders are quite capable of acting as distracting troops like Giants; they have nearly as much health as a similar-level Giant, move twice as fast, and do considerably more damage. They work well with the Healing Spell when you group several of them together. A good tactic for using Healing Spells is to place them strategically on a cluster of defenses (at least about 3 or more) and also deploy them shortly before the Hog Riders arrive in the area, i.e. deploy them ahead of the Hog Riders. This is so that the Hog Riders get the most out of the Healing Spell, and destroy the defenses without losing too much HP. Spots where Giant Bombs or Bomb Towers are/may be should be given special attention when deploying Healing Spells. Hogs of the same level as the Giant Bomb will survive a single Giant Bomb, but they're helpless against a pair of Giant Bombs even with a Healing Spell. Heal them after they've gone through a Giant Bomb blast. The Hog Rider is one of the best troop types for drawing out Clan Castle troops, as it can avoid Walls to penetrate deep enough to reach centrally-placed Clan Castles (and enough health to not die before it gets there). Deploy one or a few to trigger the Clan Castle troops, then lure the reinforcement troops to the corner side, and deploy multiple Archers or Wizards to slaughter them, and then deploy the remainder of your Hog Riders. This strategy is especially effective during Clan War raids. However, Skeletons from the Skeleton Trap and Heroes can also easily kill the Hog Riders, as they can only target defenses, so make sure to have some troops that target anything, such as Wizards, which can swipe out the Skeletons. Hog Riders don't target air so flying Clan Castle troops, especially Dragons, can be a big threat. Most mass Hog Rider strategies in Clan Wars require that the Clan Castle troops be killed first by luring. Bring other troops in addition to Hog Riders, such as Wizards, to deal with enemy Clan Castle troops and clean up the base. Poison Spells can be used to kill almost any enemy Clan Castle troop, but beware as the troops will attempt to flee the poison. If the Poison Spells are decently leveled, and you effectively keep the Clan Castle troops from escaping the Poison Spell with distracting troops, they can eliminate almost any troop. They can also be used to dispense of those pesky Skeletons risen from the Skeleton Traps. Time is also a factor to consider. With only 3 minutes in an attack, it is essential to make sure that this whole process and the remainder of the attack is done as quickly as possible to avoid running out of time. Defensive Defending against Hog Riders is tricky, as their ability to bypass Walls renders them irrelevant. However, the fact that they can jump over Walls and attack defenses means that they may leave behind their ground support (such as Barbarians, etc.), as they will not be able to follow. This will allow your interior defenses to concentrate on the Hog Riders. Another way to defend against Hog Riders is to exploit the fact that they will attack the closest defensive building. You can arrange your base in such a way so that you have high-powered defenses on the inside and lower-powered defense on the outside, with a layer of resources in between. That way, the Hogs will (in theory) complete a loop around your base before being able to attack your interior defenses (Inferno Towers, X-Bows, etc.), by which time they should have all been killed by the interior defenses. You can place Spring Traps and Giant Bombs in between defensive buildings to take out a few Hog Riders at a time; good usage of multiple Spring Traps and Giant Bombs can severely hinder a Hog Rider rush. Hog Riders can be easily killed using "forced pathing". Forced pathing is a strategy that manipulates the Hog Rider AI and makes them go to at least 2 defenses that cannot be prevented by surgical dropping or side clearing. Placing a set of Giant Bombs in between the two can most certainly hinder the attacker progress. They would not be able to heal the Hog Riders in time. Clan Castle troops, Heroes, and Skeleton Traps set to Ground Mode can be an annoyance to mass Hog Rider raids, as Hog Riders will not attack them unless all defenses have been destroyed. Make sure to centralize them if you want to beat Hog Riders. In Clan Wars, Dragons are excellent troops to place in Clan Castles against Hog Riders, especially for Town Halls 8 and 9. They have high HP, meaning they won't die easily and can kill mass quantities of Hog Riders swiftly if not properly lured. Most mass Hog Rider strategies require that the enemy Clan Castle troops be killed first, so if the attacker lures out a Dragon, but fails to kill it, then a 3-star win is next to impossible, much less a 1-star win via destroying 50% of the buildings. Multi-target Inferno Towers can be a severe hindrance to Hog Riders, having high HP to take several hits from Hog Riders, while hitting large groups of them. Although the Hog Rider is certainly not a liability on defense, the fact that all defensive troops are unimpeded by Walls negates the primary advantage of the Hog Rider. Still, for the space they take they are faster and more damaging compared to Giants. Upgrade Differences The Hog Rider undergoes significant visual changes at levels 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. Initially, the Hog Rider is a dark-skinned man with a black mohawk and beard. He also has a gold earring in his right ear and sports two heavy golden wristbands, a red belt, and a brown loincloth. The Hog Rider's hammer has two brass bands. At level 3, his hammer increases in size and turns black. The brass bands on the hammer's head disappear, and the hammerhead goes further down onto the stick, creating a button looking object on the top of the hammerhead. At level 5, his mohawk turns from black to orange, making it similar to that of a level 5 Goblin. At level 6, his hammer gains three large, golden spikes and a bronze plating. At level 7, the edges of his hammer start to glow red, and he gains a brown headband but reverts to a black mohawk. At level 8, his hammer is now mostly golden. His hog also gains a headband. At level 9, the gold on his hammer is much thicker. His headband also lightens in color. At level 10, his hammer turns a bright light blue color that resembles the look of ice. This matches the theme of Town Hall 13. It also gains a small same-colored glow. At level 11, his hammer turns a light greenish color. This matches the theme of Town Hall 14. His hog gains gold armour on its face and muzzle.

That practice is unbelievable terrible, and to think there are still some companies that run Windows servers! @@fredwupkensoppel8949 It pretty much is though, I know a high school student who created a program that could without a password control any Windows computer connected to the internet (just give it an IP target address, you could give it random ones but for legal reasons we tested on computers of friends who gave verbal consent). It could: File transfer both ways, execute any program (yes, you could transfer anything to it and then execute the program), log users out, shutdown system, or my personal favorite was spamming the mouse to 0,0 coordinate and crashing or locking the system by spam opening every application or game they had and apparently spamming 0,0 (bottom left) meant the normal CTRL+SHFT+ESC or CTRL+ALT+DEL would almost click off task manager so you couldn't stop the programs launching. You could download pictures, you know anything you wanted, plant pictures too... All without a password! We never found a firewall or anti-virus that could stop it, and it could be anywhere in the world (we only tested in the US because we didn't know anyone outside the US that would be willing, but I assume it would work globally). It was designed because Windows Home Group was so awful and difficult to share video games even when you knew the passwords, so this absolutely tiny program was created AND you don't even need to have the slave/target computer to have anything installed besides Windows. They would never even know you did anything unless you planted files on purpose. Now, I know what you're thinking, surely M$ fixed this right? I mean, something that affected Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 (maybe 11, haven't tested 11) surely they would fix something like that right? No... I tried, they were more interested in adding emojis to M$ Word and Email than fix actual issues. So no, its not secure. Now have I tested it on the "secure" computers at work, no, obviously I'd lose a security clearance and be in jail in a heartbeat (if they caught me, the chance of that would be insanely low, but I frankly don't care because I already have access to that and to me its boring work stuff, I feel 0 need to study unpaid on stuff I frankly have little interest in). So maybe in terms of a TS network (which should be isolated away from the internet), maybe then you could call Windows "secure", but I still wouldn't call it that.

The lock is only there because an entire array of mailboxes is located together, and it would be common for tenants to accidentally access the wrong box. As someone who has carried mail, I guarantee there is no carrier who cares what the lock on your box is as long as it doesn't interfere with the mail somehow. Postal management is equally unlikely to care. They aren't even likely to notice if you changed it. I can give a specific example where someone replaced with an improper lock and we never noticed until the complex had to do a shuffling of all the locks, and when we got to that one we were like "wait a minute..." On top of this, the picking is actually not the weakest point of these locks. A part that is not shown in this video is. The piece of sheet metal that does the actual "locking" is easily bent. I never saw picked locks, but I saw a LOT of them with this part bent from the box being pried open. If you have a lock like this, try a thicker piece of sheet metal or multiple pieces to make it harder to bend. @lockpickinglawyer, I'm not sure if you can get one, because people get quite upset if these are not properly disposed of. But there is a special lock that the Post Office uses to secure the main opening mechanism of these boxes you might give a try to see how secure you find them. *EDIT: Since this is getting a lot of interest, another thing occurred to me. The number of keys for these locks is pretty limited, or maybe this is just a symptom of the security problem. As I said above, we moved some locks around and people were used to their boxes being in a certain spot. As a result, some people put the wrong keys into the wrong locks and a few of them worked. We found out about this because someone who didn't get the memo about the box change complained they kept getting their neighbor's mail. :)

Growing up in a small city in the US it was similar, when postal delivery was made to every house individually. Now almost every new housing development (both apartments and separated houses) will have mailboxes in groups. There are usually at least 16-20 on a pedestal box for a street or neighborhood, up to several hundred in a public gazebo/shelter for an entire apartment complex. But a mail box on the road can be seen by many people and an apartment mail box in inside and you would know if you were being watched. Also in large apartments many people don't know all the tenants so seeing a stranger accessing a mail box may not attract any attention.

Mail theft is not really done outside of big apartment building. Sometimes kids or desperate drug addict would steal mail. But professional go to apartment building. Often with a mailman master key. You have to hit one hundred mailbox to find one with something you can sell or cashed. So if you have a choice of hitting 100 mailbox in 10 minutes, or three hours. Which one would you chose. It use to be done a lot when the government was sending paper check. They all came around at the same time and were easy to cashed. But these days they tend to hit high value property because they are looking for valuable. But It is rare. Much more lucrative to follow an amazon van in a middle class neighborhood.

That's not too bad. It took him 9 whole seconds to rake it open. 4 times longer than most other locks he does.

Good thing it might only be securing machinegun parts kits and explosives... I mean granted you can get that stuff over the counter, but still, I'd like to believe I COULD have it more secure without breaking a law!

I'm a locksmith and I use these locks all the time. There are other replacement locks that are cheaper than the CompX but not as good. These are hardened steel and are a bear to drill out. Picking these locks they can be a tough go it. Of course someone like you will not have a problem but morals like myself do. They are pretty tough with a tough bitting. Tumblers are very small. And the keyway is tight. The thing that can make it hard is they make these locks turn 90 degrees only in one direction. Some will turn clockwise and others will turn counterclockwise. So if your tensioning them in the wrong direction it will never open. You must change your tensioning if after a few minutes you can't open it or it's going to be an long day. These are great little locks and I enjoy repinning them for resale. They last forever.

Yes, these locks are an improvement over the ordinary cabinet locks used in earlier systems. We upgraded to the new 4C-spec mailboxes with these locks and it is a more secure system.

Those locks come on higher end community boxes. They are generally not on any individual residential boxes. And in 18 years I have never once heard any policy stating you have to have a particular lock. Unfortunately in my many years of experience the locking mechanism is never the weakness. It is always the metal lever on the back side of the lock that gives way when a box is pried open.

Kinda scary when a government-mandated lock can be opened with a wave rake.

Small problem though, most, if not all of these areas are monitored by security cameras, if you were to try and steal a neighbours package, or just wandered into a random building to do it, you'd get caught pretty quick.

Not everybody with a mailbox. Everybody who lives in an apartment complex with centralized mail lockers, you know, those walls of little boxes each with a lock and a room number on it? He's not talking about mailboxes along the side of the road in the suburbs or rural areas.
