Started watching you and Bosnianbill. Thought I would try my hand at lock picking. Thanks to you, I was able to pick several cheap master locks and then pick the Stanley lock in your video for the first time today.

Hi Harry, Interesting padlock, with well thought out security features, particularly for the price. Bonus of course, in that many different key in knob cylinders can be fitted, including BiLock! Very versatile padlock, and well picked. Regards, Brian.

+Brian Hignett Thanks. I was actually going to make the same point, and had Mul-T-Lock and Primus KIK cylinders just out of frame to make the point with... but I forgot, and was too lazy to reshoot it. :-(

Bi lock wouldn't work because of the spinner unless you don't mind removing the spinner. On the other hand....assa twin would be evil

I found one on ebay for $14 total. I couldn't believe no one else bid. Just got it today. Cool lock!

good vid, as you striped it down I was thinking about a drill attack on the casing to release barrel, ha, wasn't expecting the ballbearing ! also counter milling on core ! that a great lock for the price. excellent video..
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
+tonyholt90 Thanks. The bearing is definitely a "belt and suspenders" feature, since the bottom plate is hardened... but I still like it!

Dear sir, I'm an average joe looking for a good lock. Your video has been helpful. Video suggestion: how about a summary of locks you like for 2016/17. That'd be helpful for people not into the trade but would benefit from your knowledge.

Thanks -- I'll consider it.

I bought this after some amazon reviews. It's perfect. It's a little beefy in size, and yet I think it should fit most needs (lockers, etc.) First few twists of the key were a little rough, but after a few days this thing is smooth.

Inspired by this your video I just bought this lock off Amazon.de and it was 18.99€ (~$23) which is a real bargain. And I truly like it. I’m going to change some springs and perhaps one or two pins too.

Well done Stanley! I almost finished off with a Laurel & Hardy catchphrase. 😅

Wow very nice. Cant beat that for under 20 dollars. Re-pinning this to something evil would make for a great lock.

I purchased this exact lock at a coastal farm supply store for around 25 dollars spent about 20 minutes spp'ing the lock got an open. But I was shocked it could be raked open in seconds with a sparrows worm.

Great detailed video. I am definitely picking one of these up. For such a great price it should make a nice practice lock for a beginner perhaps?
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
+Jess Hull Thanks. It could definitely be a good practice lock, but IMO, your practice lock dollars are better spent trolling ebay for large lots of used locks.

Yeah I’m in the market for a padlock right now so that was a disappointment to see. The very similar CD8820 is $20 right now, though!

Great video, but could you recommed which brand in the market that is the toughest, difficult to be pick and cut or grind padlock in the world?
@yoranidiot7 жыл бұрын
great videos, LPL. I saved up and bought a new ice cooler. Can you recommend the best lock for it? I'm not overly bright sometimes. I thought about getting another type of chain and lock to keep it tethered to my truck bed, too?. Thanks for any info you might have!

Stanley is supposed to have a bicycle U- Lock, with the same anti drilling features. I can't find one for sale. I did see it on Amazon, but it said product not available. Has a 14mm shackle, looks good.
great video, Between you, Bosnian Bill, and Texas Jim; I finally broke down and ordered a vise. I think on the high pins I'm torquing my hand a bit holding the lock and over setting pins in front. especially on cylinders. the pass locks seem easier to hold onto. what is your opinion on this? also let me know if I can ever make you a lock.

pad locks*
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
+trevor pierce Thanks. Holding small mortise, rim and KIK cylinders in your hand is definitely going to degrade your picking ability. Definitely get a vice for them. Same for padlocks, but I'm starting to prefer holding them in my hand because that is how you would pick them in the wild."

I don't see what would stop someone from air-hammering (or grooving and unscrewing) the shiny, smooth silver 'nut' next to the keyway. Wouldn't that let everything "fall out"?

They're not so cheap now. Just looked on eBay - www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=stanley+laminated+padlock&_sop=15 They show a security rating on the packaging. One I looked at said "Kwikset series" on it, so a different version.

$25 on amazon, looks like they got popular after this video and jacked up the price.

These are now $21. For two dollars more you can get an American 700. Still a fair deal at $21 though. And yes, I know this video is almost four years old.

$15 at hardware world
@JohnSmith-gs4lw4 жыл бұрын
badmonkey91 Yep. Shortly after I posted that, they dropped to $15 on Amazon and I picked one up. Free shipping. I see Hardwareworld has a reseller presence through Amazon so for all I know, that’s who filled my order. I still think they are a pretty good lock for the price. You could do much worse. I’ve also seen more than one video where people say there are no security pins. Don’t know if that was true years ago, but pretty sure it’s not true now.
@badmonkey914 жыл бұрын
Lol, they must have noticed they had it priced too low. Now it's $30 plus shipping. I want have enough to order from their website.

Stanley is also one of the few who bothers getting ASTM ratings, which represent being held to someone else's standards. Something sorely lacking this side of the ocean.
