I've just bought storage from Ikea. The storage is deep enough for locomotive boxes and I have them almost to the ceiling. You can also get drawers to go inside these and I have two sets of three drawers for unboxed locos. It looks a lot nicer and comes in three or four colours. I used Hobbycraft storage boxes for coaches and wagons. They are stackable. I only have 250 plus locos though :)

I'd add some thin felt strip all around as any sliding will cause damage in transit.

Good idea, but I'd like to see some means (foam?) of preventing the loco slopping from side to side in the draw.

Good review . I tend to keep everything in original boxes but I’m running out of space . Could use these drawers which would increase density of storage and keep empty boxes out in the sides of the loft! Going to have to do something . My initial enthusiasm was a bit tempered by the price of £49.95 though! So that’s where Jack from Hattons went

Unit is very nice . I like that you can stack. Only problem I see is if you use it to carry equipment around ( other layouts and such), you'll have to find a way to secure them . It seems they slide open if you tilt the box.

I have just ordered some of these. At the moment my locos are store in plastic drawers which are brilliant, BUT! and there is always a but, I have had to partition each loco off with expanded foam. This in its self is not a problem, but more of a headache. With these they provide a perfect storage solution seeing as my layout is totally work in progress, and I use my LNER ES1 only to test my hand-built track. Love the videos, keep them coming.

Got five of these all labelled up and then placed in an ikea metal locker they are heavy once all ten locos are inside,they work well and keep things safe.

Hi Jenny, the storage unit looks very useful for storing at home, however for transporting locomotives to a show the trays would need some thin foam to stop the locomotives rattling against the MDF and scratching the paint. Regards, David.

Interesting, but mdf is heavy stuff. Will the big Garrett fit into a drawer?

Could you put track inside and use them as a cassette storage system? I'm not sure if the end pieces could be replaced.

Expensive for something that really offers no side or front / rear protection. I guess you can wrap the locos in kitchen paper and then use foam to protect the front and back of the stock.

Just a quick thought, WWSCENICS, why not produce an additional item designed to secure the ends, to prevent any tray sliding out, and also design into that a stacking alignment, ( like container twistlocks) so as to be able to stack the units ?

Whilst I appreciate the intent, seems a bit flawed. Bulky and a storage solution prone to dust. Better to keep either in the box, or a sealed cabinet.

Of course this will be bulky, its for OO gauge locos! A good idea but not really portable so more suited to home based layouts. (How do the O gaugers manage?) I would say you don't have this problem with N gauge. I don't but I've known modellers with as many N gsuge locos as Jenny has in OO!
