Had a similar problem with my 1992 Miata. I had my mechanic watch a You Tube tutorial on this very problem on other Miatas, a couple of years ago. I have added probably 10-15 K more miles and still going strong. I now have 239,296 miles on this car and still purrs like a kitten. "Loctite 660" good stuff.

l used it for a spun main bearing scooter cases aluminum , still good . Research was to see if an accelerant could be used and is it designed for aluminum even though successful but the joint has to be anerobic or no air to cure. It failed , ss thread repair slug for a manifold didn't cure? Not a pro .thanks .

I used this stuff recently on a shaft to fit a flywheel which was meant to be a press fit and was incorrectly drilled to be a clearance fit. Within about 30 seconds of activator + 660 and slipping the flywheel on it was locked completely solid and hitting the shaft with a hammer wouldn’t budge it. I imagine that stator is never going to come off again with it on the taper.
@AutomedicGarage
@AutomedicGarage 2 жыл бұрын
I opted to not use the activator, I read of instances where it actually lowers the cure strength.

@@AutomedicGarage Interesting. According to the Datasheet it cures up to double the strength if using the 7471 activator

@@tolga1cool yea I opted to not use the activator cause of possibly needing to remove it. Sad part is the rod bearings are going out now, so we’ll be tearing it back down and throwing in a new factory Yamaha crank.

@@AutomedicGarage Well.. that sucks. But at least you got every bit out of that engine lol I'm thinking of using this for my motorcycle sprocket which chewed a bit on the shaft and is wobbly now

I put this on my car crank to fit the timing sprocket wich had developed some play, even with new parts. Still strong after 5 years and 65k km. But now i have to take it apart once again to change the belt.

Supposedly heat will break it down, but I think it’s around 500 degrees to get it.

I believe the part you were calling the stator was actually the rotor, since it is attached to and rotates with the crankshaft. The winding portion (with the coils of wire) is the stator, because it remains stationary, and the magnets in the rotor generate electricity in the coils as they spin around it.
@AutomedicGarage
@AutomedicGarage 2 жыл бұрын
No not a rotor, it’s the flywheel portion of the stator. Typically sold as an assembly thus the reason I was saying stator it’s the out portion of the stator also know as the flywheel in motorcycles, atvs and dirt bikes. Could have said flywheel my bad.

Put this stuff on a couple days ago....still not set! Do you think it's because it's cold where I live? About 30- 40 degrees, between night and day. Will it eventually set you think? I've tried researching all the data sheets, but it's unclear. Thanks!

I wonder if it's stronger than JB Weld.
@bearnecessiteespolio5359
@bearnecessiteespolio5359 8 ай бұрын
It is. But it only hardens at it best when used in tight spaces which are therefore starved of air/oxygen. It only fully cures when squashed and not next to air (e.g. squashed u det a keyway, or squashed under a sproket/gear with the pulled add on, to block air. Ive heard good things about JB weld too, but maybe for bigger holes? Just been reading up.on this for hours because I have a damaged crankshaft. I'm going for the 660, and the activator. And even if it works it can all be for nothing if you don't tighten the crank bolt enough. I'm using medium threadlocker on the bolt and getting it all torqued up straight away when the 660 is applied.

That’s it heat tolerance. Seeing how it takes 500F+ to remove parts it’s been applied Id is say it’s good to near 500F. It’s held this together for 2+ years now and I know the Miata guys use it on their cranks a lot too. And I did look at the SDS.
