That was nice of the people at Lodge to give you that new skillet and cover and I hope you are pleased with it. I have a 12" indoor dutch oven, and a 12" outdoor dutch oven made by them and love the indoor product so much and probably will love the other one also after I use it.

Cool! This pan replaced the antique Wagner that you will see in my latest videos. It was my favorite. It got dropped on hard tile and cracked all the way down the side of the pan. I don’t remember if I showed crack in this video, or the one next to this video.If you look in the playlist at the end of this video, you will see mine and teak unmarked Griswold Dutch oven. It is my second favorite, and now it is dark and shiny like glass just like my other cast-iron cookware.If I remember I will shut in this next video coming up fully restored. I have been restoring cast-iron cookware, way before I started a KZbin channel. I was originally going to sell them on eBay, but after I restored my first one I knew that I couldn’t part with them! Ha ha I got the #CastIronFever

Hi Mike are there any advantages to having the pan *smooth* ?

Have you ever tried making bread in this? Many use the combo cooker upside down which is the same deep skillet but had a 10" skillet lid. I went for the model you have with the lid mostly for frying but curious what else you can use it for
@CastIronCooking5 жыл бұрын
*It’s a deep fryer so it’s good for fried chicken and anything else you use a deep fryer for. I use antique cast-iron, Lodge manufacturing company sent me that to review. It replaced my older one that was a antique Wagner. So they were kind enough to send me this one, and also an extra lid for my antique Lodge skillet that I use in my videos.*

Hello from Oklahoma City! I have a couple of cast iron skillets my mother gave me that I use on a semi- regular basis. I would like to see how you deep fry your mushrooms and if you decide to strip and re-season your new pan please make a video.
@CastIronCooking6 жыл бұрын
I’m not going to strip it like I did last time. I just made a video on how to do a quick seasoning, I will put that up next. If you have antique cast-iron like you mentioned click the information card in the top right-hand corner of this video, or wait to the end of the video and you will see a playlist on how to do exactly what you want. The only part missing is to take your cast-iron skillet warm it so you can still hold it and go outside and spray it down with The regular easy off oven cleaner. Put in a plastic bag tied up and leave overnight. Repeat as necessary until you have stripped it down. Get some Brillo pad‘s or SOS pads with soap, and scrub it down all over. Rinse it and dry it. Then do the cast-iron seasoning Video in the playlist that I mentioned. Thanks so much for commenting it means a lot, and thanks so much for letting me know where you are from! Don’t forget to share this on Facebook or with friends, so we can get everybody back to cooking with cast-iron and not Teflon. I also have videos on seasoning stainless steel pans.

Hi, I'm new to cast iron cooking, and I want to start using it as my only means of cooking food. I 've tried a few foods in my Lodge 12" cast iron skillet, and realized yesterday that I needed to season it properly which is why I had problems before. I've made a list of items that are essential to cooking with cast iron. Any recommendations would be great. So far, your videos are very helpful, and inspiring. My Mom bought me a Pit Master kit from Man Crates which I used for the first time yesterday, and had amazing success with the sauce pot and steel forks since I made bbq pulled chicken. My wife raved about it, and now I'm obsessed.

If you end up stripping that new one down and seasoning it yourself, can you make a video of it?
@CastIronCooking6 жыл бұрын
I already have a video on it, but I deleted it. Along with 64 other videos that didn’t do too well. All you have to do is get some easy off oven cleaner the regular kind, warm The pan where you can still hold it spray it down with Easy Off oven cleaner Put in a plastic bag tied up and wash it off 24 hours. Repeat until it is completely off.I am going to make a video soon on how to season this just the way it is. If you’re subscribed, turn on the notification bell on my channel and you will receive it as soon as it comes. 😉 if you have antique cast-iron like me, I have a playlist for cast-iron seasoning, maintenance. It is in the top right-hand corner of the video on the information card.

If you have a self cleaning oven you an also just run the skirt through a self clean cycle and when it's done all seasoning will be bunt and powder and you just wash well, dry well and heat to get all water out of pores and then season it how you want.

My wife and I went to Chattanooga for a few days, cast iron shopping. Only brought 5 pieces home. It's getting hard to find the good stuff...

Unless you live in Chicago. I know a guy that restores and sells it for a living there he pays half of what I pay here in Arizona for antique cast-iron. I never pay more than $10 apiece. The $10 one is the anti-Griswold that you saw that time on my cast-iron haul Video. I am so jealous of him I don’t know how he parts with them because he gets all the ones that everybody is looking for. I lived in the south from eight years old until 16 and came back here but I go back and visit my family and there is cast-iron all over the place in South Carolina and Georgia. I have let go some real big pieces that were super nice antique one was a huge cast iron pan, another was an antique cast-iron Grill. I don’t have room for anymore so I have to be really selective. I turn down a lot of them because they don’t pass the credit card test, and they spin around or wobble on a flat surface.

YanniBG I put a quick seasoning on the skillet, and that is my latest video. If you already started cooking on it don’t worry about it. Make sure to watch the cast-iron re-seasoning after cooking video with the Lodge cast-iron scraper. It is in my cast-iron seasoning/maintenance playlist. The key to a non-stick skillet besides cooking meat in it, is proper care after cooking. Lodge scraper also in the Amazon page below. 😉

Yo! Love your channel. My first cast iron was a 12" lodge. When my mom passed this year she left me 3 skillets one little one and 2 10" deep skillets. They are the ones we grew up with. I'm beyond honored to have them and everything I make in them tastes like moms cooking. Now my family gets to enjoy the same flavors I loved as a kid. The wooden spoon trick is genius. Mom never cooked with a recipe or thermometer, I rarely do either. So much of how you cook really resonates with me. Peace brother.

I have a pan like your first cast iron pan, it is in my earlier videos when I first started doing cast-iron cooking on my channel. It was kind of heavy, and grainy and I have been restoring antique cast-iron long before the channel, so I pulled out some of my antiques. Thanks for subscribing! The two regular pans I use on my channel, Are antique Lodge skillets. The deep Wagner pan that cracked on the side before Lodge manufacturing sent me this pan was my favorite! At least the tile I dropped it on wasn’t harmed. But I give zero about that tile and I loved that Pan!
