As a bit of a wood stove addict I’m really impressed by this! Having the forced air is interesting and I imagine it basically eliminates the majority of the smoke you would get with other wood stoves that are not double combustion. I’ve seen stoves like the BioLite before but personally I think those are too bulky and well kinda ugly. I really like the clean design you’ve created … and the weight is just really impressive! Excited to see more! Best of Luck!
@JonnyLOFI
@JonnyLOFI 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, I’m my tests I found that all to often with a non-forced air stove that putting the pot onto would choke the chimney affect and starve the fire of oxygen. This results in a cooler fire, and lots of black smoke!! The LOFI stove with its forced air largely eliminates this problem! 🚀

Does the ash muck up the fan? Hopefully you will include some way to elevate your pot above the stove.
@JonnyLOFI
@JonnyLOFI 2 жыл бұрын
Hi KWH, the ash doesn't seem to be a problem - but if anything does get in the way of the fan, it's easily accessible without tools to be cleaned and checked :) Pots don't need to be elevated from the stove, as there is enough airflow already.

i have got a boil of 1lt on a normal wood gas stove but also a heat exchange pot in about 11 min, i am curious how much better it might be with this stove and a heat exchange pot, when do you think you might be selling it on eBay or Amazon?

@JohnSmith-df4vb
@JohnSmith-df4vb 2 жыл бұрын
@@JonnyLOFI if it works better, then perhaps you can design and sell an add-on of just the heat exchanger part so people can use normal pots on top of it, then they would have the best of both worlds, a fast boil and remove the part if you want to cook.

@tomnoyb8301
@tomnoyb8301 2 жыл бұрын
Could'a weighed the stove again after the water boiled? Wouldn't be perfect, but it'd give some measure of how much fuel remained? Especially with a final cold-stove measurement too? 2) Windscreen would make all the numbers better. Less fuel, less battery and less boil-time.

Would it not be greatly improved with a wind shield
@JonnyLOFI
@JonnyLOFI 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, The stove has a built-in windshield and the fan pressurises the flame a bit like gas - so it fights the wind pretty well. I guess it could always be improved by an additional shield though!

@@JonnyLOFI i feel like if i can get more than 30cm between burning fire with the boiling water & the lithium battery, I wouldn't mind. Leaves more flexibility with placement of the battery on the terrain (saw one video where lofi was set up on a rock & the only option for the battery was right next to the stove because the cable wouldn't allow for the battery to reach the ground/next rock over)
@bunyipdan

For me the form factor of normal gasifier stoves are a little bulky, but the extra efficiency and power this little unit has really looks like it could be a great option ....... however straight out of the gate it’s reliance on battery power seems to be it’s Achilles heel, it would be a great advantage if you could design it so it can run without power (in a pinch), may be make the base removable/modular ..... twist off, and replaced by say another modular base (which could be stored as a lid) which could allow the stove to operate as a normal induction gasifier stove ..... maybe version 2.0? I understand it’s really no different to a canister stove when you are out of gas you’re out of gas, just can’t help thinking what could be.
@JonnyLOFI
@JonnyLOFI 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dan, Like you said gas stoves already rely on the fact you need gas, but I hear what you say, and I really like your idea of a lid you can switch out with the electronic base. The base already does twist off for emergency field maintenance (if something has made its way into the fan for whatever reason). Maybe it could be a stretch goal on the Kickstarter? I'll have a play and see how I get on with the base removed. Jonny

@@JonnyLOFI Well its great that you might consider this function, sure hope it could be possible. One other thing it would be good to know/see, what this stove might be paired with, what existing cookware is it compatable with ...... such as it seems it would possibly match neatly with a 10cm Zebra pot, maybe theres a titanium pot it would stack with? These types of questions are what comes to mind when I start thinking about how I would use it. It looks like a great product, its sure to be successful, cheers.
@JonnyLOFI
@JonnyLOFI 2 жыл бұрын
@@bunyipdan Definitely. It fits well into most 750ml (or larger) titanium pots including the VARGO BOT. I'm hoping to offer a tidy little pot as an extra when buying the stove, though most people have something that will work 😃

I'm not sure why you didn't provide a pot stand for it to create at least a 1-2cm space between the stove and the bottom of the pot or pan. The current design means you're kind of snuffing the fire out (or dangerously trapping the heat inside the stove) when you place the cooking vessel on top of it...
@JonnyLOFI
@JonnyLOFI 2 жыл бұрын
With the fan pushing air through the burn chamber, there is no need for the pot to be elevated any further 👍 The constant airflow keeps it from choking / snuffing the fire 🔥
@markthomasson5077
@markthomasson5077 2 жыл бұрын
You need to let it burn to the end and time that, then this should give a good idea of the minimum amount needed. Or do a few tests. Also experimenting by starting with just a small amount of pellets to get it started and then top up once going. Interesting product?
@JonnyLOFI
@JonnyLOFI 2 жыл бұрын
Thnks Mark, some good advice here. I've found that the top-down fires work best on the stove for the cleanest burn and most extended burn times with pellets. Looking forward to some more experimenting!
