RV Living Full Time Mistakes & Motivation - FLOODED OUR BASEMENT

⭐️ About this Episode:
RV Living has its ups and downs and sometimes I still feel like an AMATEUR even a year after living the RV Life. While filling up our fresh water tank, I forgot and left the water on, it over filled and flooded our basement area!
Plus we get to the Pacific Ocean for the 1st time and camp 3 days on the beach at Silver Strand State Beach. The water was cold but it didn’t stop the kids from living in the moment and enjoying it. Laine and I learn a lot from our kids like their simple carefree spirit and to make each day fun and full of laughter!

You made me remember my childhood. Mom and dad moved us five kids, from Montreal to Florida. We didn't know English....dad didn't have a job. We camped out until dad found a job 11 weeks later. My mom said it was the best time of her life. It was a very special time for us all. You are your wife are very brave to show your children the freedom. You manage with less....and have more time for family time.. We have had flooded the camper before....there is always a little rough patch along the way. Be safe...love your video.

Yes, one of my friends told me that he is not sure why, but kids up to about the age of 12 and adults past the age of 70 are oblivious to cold water. I think you figured it out and explained it well. With the seniors, at a certain age, the no longer care what the norm thinks or tries to pressure you on how to live, and thus, the 2nd childhood. Water in the basement, yup, we all have that dose of humility every so often, no matter how good or seasoned we are. Maybe it is God's way of keeping us from getting too full of our selves. Lol. I have had and will continue to have plenty of those oopsie moments. Like you said, it is all worth it in the long run. A Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! John

We've all done dumb things and are likely to do more as well. A fresh water tank is supposed to have an overflow pipe that runs below the RV. That is to prevent water running into the bays. If it breaks or gets plugged it's a royal pain to fix.

The overflow valve was also releasing water but there was so much pressure that it couldn’t keep up with the amount of water coming in. So it starting to push out of the manual fill and into the bays. Thanks for watching

A wet dry vacuum would suck up the water. We picked up a small, 1 galloon hand held one for our rig ....just for crazy accidents or sand.

I have the same RV you have. I suspect what went wrong with the water fill is that you didn't open the overflow door. Whenever you fill the tank by being connected to city water and flipping the lever to tank fill, then you need to unlock the overflow door and leave it open. That way even if you forget to shut off the water, the overflow will spew out the door and onto the ground,, not into your compartments.

I have a separate overflow under the RV and never had to open that door where you manually fill it. But the main overflow couldn’t keep up with the amount of water going into the RV so it pushed it out the door.

I decided this year to work for myself. Zero stability but it’s working out and it’s absolutely been worth it. I was a nurse.... with a good income, I loved it but it was so harsh having machines going off and phones ringing all the time. Add in the family members of patients who take out their anger on me because I can’t change the doctors orders. My patients loved me but the company took advantage of that. I’d rather do construction all day every day and I’m happy.

Let me tell you you are not the first one to do this I have done it before so don't feel bad. Now for your wife let me tell you she looks great with our without makeup. I am a Vietnam veteran who is disabled 100% so can not travel far like you guys. You are absolutely right about being a father I took my 5 year old daughter to the grand canyon and mount Rushmore and devil's tower and many other places she is now married and travels every were and said it was because she remembered all the places I told her. Yeah you don’t want wood rot. I’m trying to picture what is leaking. On my class a, the the check valve is right but the fill valve. Since your pump isn’t running, it seems like the leak almost has to be between the connection and your check valve. Anyway, life goes on, well, until it doesn’t;)

I wanted to add some thoughts. I agree with you. We agree with y’all. God, family, career. That is the order of our house. Amy and I have been talking about doing this for around a year now. We are currently expecting our newest addition in April. I so want to live while I’m alive. I don’t want to be a slave any longer to a paycheck or to a job. I want to live for my family. My ( OH ) moment I want to share with all is as follows. Campground lost power we have four dogs and it was mid-summer, we started the generator but did not disconnect or turn off the breaker from the pedestal, power was restored and one would think the breaker would trip on the generator or in the house or on the pedestal but that was not the case, what did happen was the transfer switch burnt out costing me $250 in parts plus labor and could have easily been avoided by flipping a switch.

Ok, here some ideas either for now or in the future: get yourself a DEWALT 20-volt Max 2-Gallon 1.85-HP Cordless Shop Vacuum. We use ours for everything: "soking up water", vacuming the motorhome/car, inflating items (air beds, tubes, rafts). Next, you need to make sure all the water is out of your basement or you will get mold!! Go on the "Dollar Tree" Website: Order a case of "moisture eliminators" (case of 36 is $36.00). put one in ever area and keep replacing them until the moisture is gone. last get the: Dyson AM09 Hot & Cool Bladeless Fan & Heater with Jet Focus. This is a heater that you can put anywhere and will not burn anything. completely safe for children and animals. You can also use this to help dry out areas. good luck to you.......

Well, the growing up stuff, yeh, eventually. I don’t think it’s so much us being adults, as much as it’s a ‘parent’ thing...we suddenly realize all the possible dangers when we could lose those precious babies. They are young enough to keep the freedom of your travels and joy of childhood with them as they grow. I know my sisters and I did when we lived on the inland waterway when we were the age of your kids. We still have closely heart-held memories.

So, I Google earthed your camping location and I believe you were captured that day. When I zoomed in on the campground there indeed is a motor-home with a water trail running from it. what are the odds. It might be yours if the publish date and the actual camp dates are that different.. The image date is 11/17/2018. If it is not yours then you were not the first to flood there.

I would think the mixture of sun, wind and moisture from those islands. It's probably breaking down the chemicals.

I think I would drill holes and add rubber plugs just in case you need to drain it again or a plug like boats have in them to drain the bilge area. Get the wife's hair dryer and dry out the carpet. LOL See now you know why kids don't worry about getting dirty and cold they don't have to think about all the responsibilities that we do.

Adults have "learned" too much to have fun. I have no clothing that someone might say I have to wear to even an informal gathering. No typical white shirts, no pants that are not zip off cargo pants. No ties no silly dress type jackets, although a keep warm or keep dry type is still around. Try not to have to use the keep warm type LOL.

Don't beat yourself up too much. I flooded my previous 5th wheel twice and my current Motorhome twice, all for various reasons. It sucks... you clean it up... then move on 😁
