Back in the 80s Lofty Wiseman had his own series on primetime TV in the UK and was a household name, hence his survival handbook becoming a No. 2 bestseller over here. Later came Bear Grylls and Ray Mears.

I bought his book. It's a bible. I went to a survival class after reading his book, and knew so much more than the teacher that people were asking me how long I'd been camping for. I replied, "I haven't". The look on the guy's face made me realize the hilarity of it. Wiseman is the man. I love his work.

Been a John lofty fan since 12 years of age,I'm now a 30 year old woman. His amazing book sparked my interest in survival, but I've never EVER found anything that had belt loops and was big enough to take a mess tin. And I have bought a LOT! does anyone know where I could get one that would fit a N.A.T.O standard mess tin? Each I buy is usually mostly too small and now these days they have molle attachment,I only want two loop like what attaches my knife to belt. I'd rather a solid loop. I've been looking for years,came close just 3/4 inch to small to fit a mess tin. Also he mentions flares, there complete lifesaving things,( go watch some episodes of I shouldn't be alive what they'd have given for flares when helicopters flew over them) I may be wrong but I thought you could only own one if you own a boat and have it on the boat.(under U.K. law) So what happens when you dislocate your ankle walking of the mountains? I was lucky when it happened to me people knew where I'd gone. Is it true you can only have one if you own a boat and keep it on said boat? Thank you for a amazing video
@Basha724 жыл бұрын
b 22 try looking on E bay for the SAS Ration/escape pouch, pricey but that’s the original pouch, some drop leg or dump pouches could also be of use , flares if you can buy them you can own them, best to go into a marine/boat chandlers they normally stock flares
@simonh63714 жыл бұрын
Look on ebay for Bundeswehr (German Army) webbing pouches, although I decided to go for the full set at just £20 as the individual pouches were £9-10 each. My smaller Dutch (stainless steel) mess tin will just fit in the waterbottle pouch, but I can get a lot of kit in the ''Mehrzwecktasche'' - literally all purpose pouch - a larger pouch which fits on the rear, I have a full comfort survival kit / get home kit with Swiss Army bottle & canteen cup, Dutch Army poncho, esbit stove and tablets with a lot of other bits & bobs including 24 hours food which can be eaten cold if neccessary. But the only problem with German Army webbing pouches is they have a weird clip system only compatible with the German Army belt, which is very wide and has metal eyelets. I solved this with loops of paracord on those attachments. Having said that, you'll probably get the smaller of the 2 mess tins in other NATO water bottle pouches, e.g. the Danish or Dutch, or British.
