The chinking outside looks amazing 😊. The internal chinking that you removed looks like Oakum, used in shipbuilding traditionally and log cabins. It is made from hemp or jute and "tarred". 😊

Plant mint around the cabin, mice don’t like mint. Another thing, mix corn meal with baking soda, mice can’t burp, so it kills them.
