You've done so much to this property, in such a short time!! Its AMAZING! I hope you don't ever sell this one!! I was very sad when you announced you were leaving the other one---after all the work you had done there! Also is the little remote cabin you went to of yours, a couple times each year, is it just to far to go there anymore???

I made some walnut cookies for a buddies wedding reception.Cut them, let them dry and coated with oil until they wouldn't take anymore and let the oil dry. Several people have used them since at their receptions as a base for the centerpiece at each table. All cookies will split eventually. Hardwood more so than softwood. It's the nature of wood drying and there's nothing you can do to prevent it. They're still neat with the split. :)

I love that you guys have a sawmill, and you can cut all the timber you need from projects, but don't burn the saw dust. Use it in your chook shed. I use a deep litter system in my chook shed about 15cm(5 to 6 inches deep, and I use saw dust it is most excellent it soaks up all of the moisture from the chook poo and it takes all of the smell from the chook shed. I only change it twice a year straight into my compost, and all that natural nitrogen is perfect for the garden.
@sharongypsydove60802 ай бұрын
You must not watch the videos that you know they use sawdust
@novampires2232 ай бұрын
That's all I use in my chicken house too, got tired of contaminated municipal compost for my garden so now use sawdust only.
@tonicodner61892 ай бұрын
No, I don't watch them all. I just wasn't sure whether you did use it or not. I'm on a no spend garden ( or as little as possible) because when we moved to our current house, the yard was a complete desert of grey sandy dust. So, growing soil, adding organic matter and cover crops have been the most important part of my garden, and the chickens have been instrumental in the process.
@tonicodner61892 ай бұрын
@novampires223 it's so good in the garden after a year in the compost, and the cost of compost and soil here is prohibitive. So I've finally graduated to three garden beds after four years in the garden because of my need to grow my soil first. My chickens are a fundamental part of it.

Always loved the children’s book by Shel Silverstein, The Giving Tree! For my Montessori elementary classroom I brought in a short tree stump/tree cookie that i attached wheels to. The kids really loved sitting on the tree cookie to read a book. And it could be moved to a quiet spot in the room. Often next to Sprinkles (our classroom parakeet) living in a tall birdcage.
