Got out of Army in early 80's lived in the woods for almost 2 years, built a small cabin with fireplace and a sleeping loft. It was crude but warm it was a small island surrounded by water it was known as fox island they were everywhere. At that time we had no cell phones so it was very peaceful some of the best times for me. I did have a cop stop me on the trail one day and asked if it was me living back there I told him yes a few days later he hunted me down and gave me a puppy ( mutt) said I needed a friend, anyway good vids. keep them coming.

I’m in the same position; I’m 17 now and all I want to do is go camping by myself, but unfortunately no one I know camps or is in touch with nature in general. Also, my mother absolutely won’t allow me to go camping alone, though it’s not like I’d ever have time to, as I am working 30 hours a week and in school 35 hours a week (my last day off was a month and a half ago). Maybe one day I’ll be in a position where I can actually enjoy my life and return to the “simple life” of living hard and rough, but for now that fantasy remains only a goal to work towards.

Well I am an old fella that has spent a lot of my youth in the woods..I built a cabin deep in the woods that I used for many years no one ever got that deep in the woods during the many years I used it.. I split the trees and mud the joints..I also built a small shed to hold food and other things that might attract bears and cougars.. it was great.. I like your cabin.. I would have made it a bit wider maybe 6 or 7 feet across.. But it brings back such good memories. Dang that stove is so nice.. I had to build a stone fireplace like creation and all of these fancy new toys to have fresh ground coffee led lights did I mention that terrific stove? oh hell a coffee press? no camp coffee? what a lucky lad you are.. my dad was only interested in making money the outdoors to him was a place to keep wildlife... and fishing is what those that didn't know any better did so he could have fish at the restaurant.. any way who cares.. he is gone now any way.. one last point.. you need to plant some berries and onions and other fruits and veggies around then bring in some fruit trees then you can have food growing in the wild and meat .. Fruit trees need to be growing for 7 years before they bring forth fruit so get some from a garden shop of tree farm.. and your set for life.. carry on and enjoy...

Those candles aren't wax. They're made of stearin. Stearin melts and burns much quicker than wax, which is why the candle manufacturing business adopted it. The faster your candles burn, the faster you have to buy new ones. If you've ever seen candles lit at cemeteries, those ones are made of wax because they burn much slower. One grave candle can burn for 80-120 hours. The way you can tell the difference between them is by either smelling them or touching them. Wax candles stay soft in room temperature and they have a distinctive smell to them as well. Also, they aren't as pure white as stearin candles. Wax candles (if set up properly) won't leave any wax drippings like stearin candles do.

R. D. K. .. I reckon there are lots of wooden shacks that get dubbed as log cabins these days, after all the timber comes from logs or trunks before its cut up.. I think its all relevant to the location, being built among woodlands.. Plus I don't think ' Camping out in my Garden Shed ' would draw in many viewers, it doesn't sound too appealing.

Hello from across the Atlantic! Florida, USA here. Really enjoyed watching the video of you and your father building the cabin together . Father/son bonding at it's finest. Memory to last a lifetime. The cabin looks great. Well planned and constructed. Very functional. I want to build one! To use to get away from everything/everyone, even if only for a day or two (disconnect as you put it) and submerse myself in the natural beauty of the outdoors. Quiet time alone. To be still...and close to God. The stove looks awesome! Hot bread and hot soup! Toasty inside. Natural lighting. A good beer. Life is good! The only things that I would add are my dog and a campfire outside, obviously, and BBQ over the hot coals. I BBQ quite often, it's a Florida thing. Thanks for the video!
