We are building our Dream home on 41 acres in the rural Midwest. We are building a Countrymark Log Home, which is a hybrid Log home. We just finished the basement of log home. We decided to install Corrugate Metal as the Ceiling in the basement to give it a more rustic look.

when you do not look at the date of the video, and think hmmmmm, why did "WE" never finish the basement, and then notice the comments are YEARS old!!!! but the most important question is when do "WE" get paid for all the work "WE" have been doing for five years? HAHAHA

What did you use around the outside edges of the metal is it like a metal j channel
@CountryViewAcres
@CountryViewAcres 6 жыл бұрын
That exactly what is was. Galvanized metal J-channel. I bought the J channel at menards. And the corrugated metal at lowes. Lowes metal was thicker/stronger.

Looks great. Was planning on doing something very similar on my build. Painting the AC registers bronze or black, to match your light fixtures, will be an easy task and look better than the white.

I agree. The HVAC company that did my system only provided white.

Did you insulate the ceiling with the metal? Could it be done? What would you suggest?
@CountryViewAcres
@CountryViewAcres 5 жыл бұрын
No I did not Insulate the ceiling above the metal. The hanging joists would need to be spaced correctly for insulation batts to be installed in between. Or insulation sheeting would need to be installed on the joists first. Probably the insulation sheeting would be best. It would dampen any noise the metal ceiling might make.

@@CountryViewAcres this room is off our basement. It was made into a screen room, good for about 1.5 seasons here in MA. When you walk out of the basement, the wall is concrete the length of the room. It is covered now and will remain so by a shingled, slightly slanted roof. There are about 7 joist?dividing the ceiling with some wood planks in between holding the roof up. I guess... maybe plywood on top of those boards. I'd like to keep the joists or rafters.. or whatever they are and just wondering what would be the best way to insulate it. A roll of insulation then cover it with the metal, still being able to see the wood that divides the room? This is being made into my " she shed" lol for quilting. Light is of the utmost importance. We're going to enclose it totally, baseboard heat,put windows in where the screen was and I want beadboard around the 3 walls and doors. The concrete(butted up to the existing basement. I'll just paint due to the way I plan to decorate the room with crafting tables. shelves of material, notions, machines, etc., etc.. and my design board... lol throw up some beautiful, rustic pendant lightingand have a lot of electrical outlets and I'll be ready! I'm doo happy I saw your KZbin video. You've given me inspiration and a lot to think of and ask my contractor. God bless

Once you get a bunch of furniture everywhere the noise should come down. Was with you til the suspended ceiling. Ick. But the corrugated looks great! I hope it holds up.

That looks nice, I might have to steal that idea for my own home one day. I might have an idea for that rattle noise but I am not sure if it will work. Foam weather stripping, buy thin weather stripping that just barely fills the gap between the joint between the sheets of metal. Across the end of the sheet and down the side seams, unscrew the ceiling enough to put weather stripping on the piece that is covered, then screw it back up and see if that helps any. Or you could buy some of that sound deadening material they put in cars, like dynamat, and put that on the backside of the sheets. Rockwool insulation in the ceiling will also help to keep the upstairs noise out, especially around the plumbing and waste pipes.
@CountryViewAcres
@CountryViewAcres 6 жыл бұрын
Yea, I was thinking along those same lines. But, I just wasn't sure what to put in between the sheets of metal. Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Kyle at RR Buildings channel works almost exclusively with putting up this type of metal on buildings and some ceilings. Perhaps he may have some better insight as how to eliminate the noise over on his channel.

@CountryViewAcres

I am not sure if it helps distribute the lighting. One thing I will mention, is that it vibrates and makes some noise when doors are shut. Maybe I should have used more screws. Probably not a big deal in a garage.

My ex and I removed corrugated tin from a house we were renting... We weren't fans of the look... Felt like it made the room look like a bait shop. I do like the utilitarian use, though.

Sorry, hate the ceilings......I would have to re-do all. Also, the lower level is very choppy. Two bedrooms and one awkward space. I would rip a bedroom out and make a nice family room......just my 2 cents.....not that you or anyone cares......LOL!!!
