Good day Evan and Regina, I have been watching the building of your beautiful home for two days. I have to say that in the more recent videos I watch, I actually thought that the home was a true Log Cabin build. I presume that it had to be a cheaper and more economical than true log homes. I have known others that had or have built log homes and every so often they have to tighten bolts that are all around the home because of settlement. You won't have that problem. I did a home that was just a shell and wife and I did all the inside work, with help on plumbing, electrical, ceiling and my father who built the cabinets. Sheetrock is not fun but we got it done. We both learned a lot as I know y'all did also. So I know of the hard work and hours needed to get to completion. Again, you and Gina are to be commended on a job well done, your home is wonderful. Thank you for videoing the homebuilding process.

I didn't want to deal with the settling issues that real log homes have. Conventional framing is easier to install, plumbing and electrical. The house is insulated tight and is easy to heat. There are lots of benefits to doing this way.

Build yourself some wood bee catchers. We found them in You tube as a pattern. We have a log house too and wood bees and wasps love it.
@CountryViewAcres6 жыл бұрын
When I was cutting wood outside, the bees and wasps were attracted to the saw dust. They would drive you crazy. But now that all the saw dust is cleaned up, I really haven't had any bees or wasps. But I know they can be an issue with log homes.

For porch ceiling fans I would have gone with dark oak hunter original variable solid state speed control four blade ceiling fans! They do need to be oiled as they are not sealed bearing! But then again those fans you got work too!

Will you coat the bottom of the posts with tar or something to prevent rot and also add stone to help water to drain away from them ? Thanks and everything looks awesome.
@CountryViewAcres6 жыл бұрын
The posts are treated lumber, so I wasn't planning on doing anything additional. But they did get some log oil applied to them when we coated the house, so maybe that will give them some added protection.

smalltown442 , I was just thinking it might make those posts last forever because the last thing you would want is for any kind of rot to happen to those holding up your porch.

First one of your videos I've come across. Wow! You've built the kind of house I've long dreamed of, situated exactly where I would want it to be, overlooking a fishing pond. Love the wrap-around covered porch, with ceiling fans. You have plenty of space for a garden layout, room for a chicken coop and large chicken run, plus bee hives. Looks like you're at the end of a long private drive, and your nearest neighbor is a corn field. Have you been secretly tapping into my fondest dreams? Gotta get me a tin foil hat to prevent future thefts! :)

Follow the channel. We are building. Garden next to the house now, and fencing in pastures for livestock. We always have some project going on, turning this property into our dream.

@@CountryViewAcres, I did sub. Can't believe I haven't come across your videos before now, as I surf a lot of gardening/homesteading type videos on YT. Just checked out your channel & can't believe how many videos you've put out. I'm a 66 yr old gardener, in SE Michigan. I have access to a utility company right-of-way I'm gardening on. This year I'll be growing a bit of produce for a small neighborhood restaurant, in exchange for some free dinners. I love the barter system! The restaurant is... facebook.com/pg/TheGraftedRootEatery/photos/?ref=page_internal If you scroll down their photo page, you'll see a guy in a ball cap & t-shirt picking tomatoes - that's me!

wrap those post before you bury them, or they'll take a beating from water.
