Logain vs Aes Sedai fight -

This clip shows us the rescue attempt of Logain by his followers while he is being held prisoner by the Aes Sedai in a forest camp.
This was a challenge to edit due to the multiple shots and cuts used in the original episode with rapid cutting between action scenes and extensive use of shaky cam. This edit smooths out the forest fight to make the battle and geography easier to follow, by removing some of the rapid sequences and retaining the longer ones so that you get a better sense of the overall action.
It also brings more clarity and focus to Logain, Karene and Stepin's role in the sequence by cutting out some shots that take us away from them, which also helps to keep the on-screen action focused on the few characters that we should get invested in for this battle.

What liandrin said is true, there was way to many sisters to handle the small army. They messed up making them weak in season 1.

To be fair, they weakened Logain even more. In the books it takes at least 6 strong sisters to keep him shielded and probably twice that to simply place the shield, yet here only 2-3 can? If these characters were their book counterparts here, Logain would have killed everyone and escaped.

@@ndo533 My point still stands. OP is saying they made the sisters too weak, but comparatively to Logain they are a lot stronger than in the books. He is very weak in comparison, at the level of 2-3 sisters instead of 6+. Also if there were time constraints, why did they add a whole episode for Steppin, and Liandrin and Moiraine backstory in S2? That's a weak argument. They could be adapting it a lot more faithfully, they just don't because Rafe wants to write fanfiction. Case in point, Egwene vs Ishamael.

The TV show has done some good things and some bad things compared to the books. The good things are 1) The Aiel Fight at the start of episode 7 2) Seeing the Weaves and 3) Some lovely scenery. That's it for the good things.

In the fan edit the Aiel fight is right at the opening of the movie. It gives it a huge momentum and propels the story forward.

What I've noticed after analyzing these scenes, specifically the scenes leading up to the battle is that the Red Ajah talk a lot of smack but at the end of the day, how much did they really do to protect their other sisters and the warders? They just stood there, is it because they expect the Green Ajah to protect and fight? I just noticed that while watching this video. The Red Ajah are supposed to be the police or something that battle against the threats to the Aes Sedai but in this scene they just seem useless. Another inquiry I have is, how did Logain break the shield that was put over him by two powerful Aes Sedai? Can somebody answer this for me?

He could have been stronger than the sisters shielding him. There's a plotline in Book 6 that covers this where you get to see the mechanics of it.

@@georgeeast5502WOW! This actually makes a lot of sense! Thank you so much. I can see the Red Ajah being like that, all tough and shit but when the going gets tough they back down. I haven't read the books so that insight helps a lot, I appreciate you taking the time to write on this. I really don't understand why, if this series is so female centered or focused, why are the Aes Sedai or female channelers written as being less powerful than the men. I don't get that. I mean look at Nynaeve, I'm pretty sure she would be able to stop Logain on her own if she had a handle on her channeling abilities.

@@josecarballo4046 No problem, I enjoy talking about the series! In the books it is explained that men being stronger in the power is similar to being stronger physically on average. However, while men are more powerful with the power, women have better innate dexterity with it(i.e. they are able to do multiple, complex weaves easier) and they have the advantage of being able to form a circle(joining their powers together), whereas men cannot do that without the help of women, so overall it balances out. As for Logain, they kind of underrate him here with Moiraine's 'candlelight' vs sun wording. In actuality he is very strong, only a single step below the Dragon at the second highest level of power a man can be. Nynaeve is comparatively weaker as she is 'only' the third strongest level a woman can be, which is equivalent to 8 'levels' below Logain. It's a smaller difference than it sounds, but Logain has also been channelling longer and solely for battle, so it's unlikely she would be able to take him down in a 1on1 fight. Hope this helps for understanding the magic system a bit better and that Logain should not be underestimated!

To answer some of your question, this is covered in the books. The Red Ajah specifically go after men who can channel, whatever their Ajah used to do changed after the madness got introduced into the Male side, at the end of the War of the Shadow. In the books a lot of Reds outright hate men and are pretty much loathed by the other Ajahs. And for the most part the Reds in the book are useless. Their biggest achievement in the War is to not only nearly kill Rand but also almost destroy the Tower.

It seems like the real power for women is in unity and with men, they must solely fight or defend so in the end it seems men are the less powerful overall. (thats my opinion)

Except, unaided Logain is almost as strong as unaided Rand. If by raging sun, she meant Rand with either Callandor, or the Choedan Kal, then she might have been correct.

Yeah I can't help this nagging feeling that something about the costume and set design, cinematography, lighting or color grading are off. There's limited degrees of freedom to edit it in post, but I have tried playing around with the contrast and color grading selectively to see what's possible. I'm not super experienced at it so not much luck as yet.

Honestly, I think COVID takes a lot of the blame here. There's a lot of social distancing in that battle scene, and the multiple quick cuts in the original episode were painfully trying to hide the fact that actors were not in the same scene at the same time. Having said that, the choice of shots and edits in the episode were...absolutely manic. It was really hard to follow the geography of the battle.

I knew as soon as the casting choices came out that the showrunners had absolutely zero interest in staying faithful to this story. The scenes that I have witnessed confirmed my suspicions. As someone who has been reading this series for nearly 20 years, I'm appalled. Then again, it is what I unfortunately expect from Hollywood at this point. Atrocious.
