Just for the people that care about specificity like that, the "thing like cancer" that they sorta dance around and never name is pretty much definitely Adamantium poisoning. People graft metal onto bones all the time. My Mother just had surgery *completely replacing* a bone with metal. The reason only a mutant with an insane healing factor could survive having Adamantium bonded to their skeleton (beyond just, that a regular human would die from the scope of doing that all in one surgery) is because Adamantium is *poison*. It's not just the blades and the bullets. Since the day Logan was turned into Weapon X, 6 or 7 *decades* prior to this film, every minute of every hour of every day of every year Logan's body has been fighting heavy metal poisoning's older brother on steroids. IIRC there's a version of Logan in some Marvel multiverse thing who never gets the Adamantium, and he is functionally immortal. He might die... eventually. But it's gonna be after this civilization and probably the one after are nothing but dust and artifacts. It's the Adamantium that does that to *this* Logan.

Adamantium and genetically modified corn syrup. The stealth gene therapy to deactivate the X-gene - the thing that prevents new mutants from emerging - what does that do to existing mutants?
@secretmedicine6011
@secretmedicine6011 5 жыл бұрын
@@rmsgrey interesting theory on this is that a normal person has up to 70 billion cells die a day. Logan's regeneration makes his average regeneration a hell of a lot higher than that. Combine that with he has already lived twice as long as a normal person would and you could say his body has created uncountable numbers, near infinite numbers. Just like normal people can create a mutant cell here and there, Its reasonable to consider that mutants may create a 'normal' cell here and there, so in wolverines case, he may have regenerated himself out of his own power through rare creations of normal genetic cells that eventually water his power down.
@rmsgrey
@rmsgrey 5 жыл бұрын
@ddam1320 On the evidence we have, it could go either way - the Alzheimer's could be an entirely independent development, or it could be something Xavier's mutation would have kept from emerging. I don't know Caliban's usual power level, nor what his power level was at in Logan, well enough to tell whether he was at full strength or not (and Transigen did have the ability to boost mutant powers, so his being able to use his powers for them is pretty inconclusive anyway)

Even though a lot of people have said that this isn't a comic book movie or that it's a movie for people who don't like comic book movies, a big theme in the movie is the affirmation of the importance of comic books and those stories. At first it seems like they're dismissing or making fun of comics with Logan talking about how Laura's comics are all made up childish fantasies. But then you see how much those comics mean to the Laura and the mutant kids. The kids were treated as things all their lives. The comics taught them morality and heroes, and gave them hope. When Logan tells Xavier that Eden isn't real, Xavier tells him that it's real to Laura. And regardless of whether or not Eden ever existed, the mutant kids made it real through their belief. And throughout the movie, Logan is constantly trying to get away from the image of the heroic world saving Wolverine in the comics. But in the end, he chooses to be the hero one last time to save the kids. Proving to Laura and the kids that there was truth to the stories. The old generation of X-Men may be gone, but they've inspired a new generation to carry on their dreams. In fact, Laura is literally saved by her faith in comic books. It's also a great message of hope about future generations. Even though movie was about Logan and Xavier at the end of their lives having to deal with all their disappointments and regrets. It's also about how your children don't have to carry the burden of your regret. When you're gone, you can leave your children your greatest ideals and hopes.

This movie really hits close to home for me for a lot of reasons. My uncle died recently and we had to take care for the last five years or so of his life. Watching Xavier talk about cowboy movies in the same manner my father does very somber moment for me. You don't put the male fear of getting old in a summer action movie unless you're really ambitious or really talented. Taking care of family is big part of life.

Dafne Keen.... holy cow she was great in this movie. Most of the time I think movies either give kids strange dialogue or don't direct/edit the material well... But not this time. Pretty much most of the time she is great, and the few tiny moments when it seems less real its probably more because of speeding up footage or cgi replacement. Great episode Mikey. I'm ready for all the feelings again when you do an episode on one of my favorite movie experiences ... Amelie.

They damn well better not recast Logan for the MCU when the MCU finally gets the X-Men. Logan is dead. That version of Wolverine is dead. It earned that death, and recasting him - even bringing Hugh Jackman back into the role in the MCU - would take the emotional resonance of this movie away.

I think Disney is going to let the X-Men rest for a bit. They can play with the Fantastic Four for a while, and all the other newer MCU heroes. But make no mistake: when the X-Men do arrive in the MCU, Wolverine and all of them will be recast. I don't think it'll take anything away from this movie, or Hugh Jackman. After all, how many Batmen and Supermen and Spider-Men have we had?

What i like in particular about "Logan" is how the older-wiser, yet weaker self, plays homage in contrast to the violent stronger misguided youth of his younger evil clone, the dichotomy that he was always prone to: throughout the years of torture/loss/and misery. And yet the hero prevails, after nearly 200 years of torment, to see the success of the progeny, overcoming his lifetime of pain and loss, still faithful to that end, even after surviving the demise of his ostensible Progenitor professor X, it is the greatest character arc one could maintain, to pass the torch without remorse, to the accepted daughter of their own aspirations. Most excellent channel and thoughts! Thanks for such great content my friend!

This film empties my eye-bladders every time I throw it at my eye-holes, and your video just managed the same irrelevant feat. Now my t-shirt is all wet and needs washing gee thanks. Two thumbs up. In other news, I discovered your channel two days ago via Cinema Wins and by golly I'm head over heels with your production style. I hope you manage to continue making these for a long time to come :)

Mikey, I have not teared up from a review and break down of a movie in... probably never; thinking on it. This movie i wasn’t the biggest fan of originally. Now though... woow. *whipes eyes of falling water* As one who found you through Cinemawins, i’m happy to be subscribed to filmjoy. Thank you for all your work. Thank you for this one!

My God Mikey. This was deeply thoughtful. I love the 'review'. I loved Logan before. You have brought this movie into a different light. I was in the same chapter. Now you have shown me the correct page. Thank you, sir. This is one of my top sites for movies. Chris Stuckman recommended Every Frame a Painting & Everything Good About recommended You. Nuff said, gushing moment over. Keep up the good work.

Hey Mikey, wanted to say that I'm glad I ran into your videos. For what it's worth it is my favorite thing about KZbin right now. I love this movie in a way that no other movie can and will make me feel, and through all the other channels that made content related to it, NOTHING makes me face those feelings in the same way your's does. It's a shame it took a shout-out from CinemaWins to get me here, but I'm happy for it. Keep doing what you do.

Oh damn! You used the Heart Kennedy Center Honors version of Stairway! My choir is the one doing the backing vocals, that was one of the best days of my life! Also, great review, as always

Your channel is brilliant and I would listen to you recite the dictionary even though your perspective and nuance is what’s got me watching a third video by you this morning. YOU ROCK!
