This is a good video. I get nice sharp corners with it even without an overcut.

I thought it was a good video, but I'm surprised he didn't explain that it is better to better to slightly over-cut each corner (i.e.: cut 1/16" past the lines measuring the opening.) The overlapped cuts can't be seen, and they ensure that you end-up with clean, sharp looking corners.

3mm exceeds the thickness that can be cut with this model. You would need a much more robust cutter for boards that thick, something rated for 8-ply board.

Can this be used to cut styrene? Specifically Evergreen styrene products.

We know some model railroaders report using mat cutters for styrene, and we think it could work on lighter gauge sheets since it's a material that can normally be cut with a mat knife. Keep in mind that these cutters are made for straight, continuous cuts on paperboard; since styrene is often scored and snapped rather than cut through the whole thickness, this tool might be of limited use. We'd advise against trying anything exceeding the normal performance parameters where great manual force is required, or anything where the built-in safety features would not protect the user.
