I appreciate the video. I think I’ll steer clear of Case for a while. Frankly, though I don’t love China, I think you get more for your money with Rough Ryder.

The improvement in steel is rather more welcome than the move to jazzy aluminium covers. I’d like to see proper traditional patterns with just better steel. Most of my dozen or more Case knives are pretty good, with just one trapper with one blade that’s just a bit off centre. I could, and probably should have sent it back, but I chose to just live with it. I’m not sure traditionals have ever really been very sharp, certainly nowhere near what we’ve come to expect nowadays.

I only have two Case knives, both of them have been recent models. Both have blade play, more than I am okay with, and the grind on both have been honestly horrible. Really sad because I love the handles and especially the 'pocket worn' finish... They need to do something about their quality control.

Most of the RRs I own are fine in 440 but.... The Barlows blades would benefit from a little more oomph. Either a tiny bit chunkier in 440 or maybe a bit better steel might be the ticket. I'd buy this Stockman definitely, it's pretty nice.

Don't like that RR. The upgraded steel is welcome, but the knife looks plain weird. I can see they're trying to do a slightly modern take on a Stockman, but it doesn't work well - a bit of a dog's breakfast is I may say so. However, it is really great to see a budget Chinese maker at least trying to do something a bit different and distinctive, so it's a step in the right direction and I hope better is to come. As for the Case, those gaps on the springbacks are shoddy. I've stopped buying Case because their QC has gone down the plughole frankly. That pattern is a bit on the small side for a Hunter, unless you're hunting mice or something.

That’s nice, I own seven rough riders I think I’m going to One eight now, The only thing I don’t like is if you wear it in your pocket you gonna wear the paint out on the handles correct me if I’m wrong I don’t know I’ve never owned an aluminum handled knife

Have been disappointed in Cases quality for the past couple of years....uneven grinds and extremely dull blades . plus they never have an actual point on them... unfortunate the Chinese are producing equal or better quality for a lot less... I won't buy a Chinese knife, but will no longer buy new Case either...sadly

Chinese knives don't always mean bad knives. It's very close minded to put a great company down because they're made in China. The RR knives are built by hand and backed for life. Better than most case knives out now

@@popsforgeblacksmithing I didn't say Rough Riders aren't good knives. I am mainly concerned with supporting the American cutlery industry such as it is. It's a personal choice. I'm hoping Case will step up and correct their obvious sloppy or non-existent QC and build issues, if not, there is always GEC if I want to spend $$ on American made traditional folders. If you like Rough Riders that's fine! Like I said, it's personal choice.

Yeah I buy case knives, and they all have gaps and high edges then I buy rough riders that are almost perfect examples just saying

They had a beautiful cutlery store in my neighborhood Before the whole Knife thing blew up years ago, and they went under. What I would do to have them back now 1984 I bought a knife from them and they’ve been out of business since 1990

Eric Blade I buy all kinds of knives I have knives from Ireland, knives from Italy, Chinese knives but I only buy quality Chinese knives, knives from Japan, I have about 10 or 15 American knives if I like it I buy it you know what I’m saying
