Wanted to let you know that my big bro remade this map (as much as he can at least) in our old Advance Wars 2 game on our old Gameboy Advance SP and let me play with him. I ended up winning since he loves not producing sometimes to make big units, heheh. After an awesome time together, he let me know about you and now I watched all your videos about Advanced Wars - no matter the length because they just seem so captivating to me. I don't know how long me and my big bro will keep playing around in Advanced Wars 2 together after all this time but I have to say... Thank you Elagatua.

I loved this two part series. These videos have really opened my eyes to the dynamics of high level games. It's fascinating to see the strategy, telling a story which explains the significance of seemingly small decisions. The chain of events stemming from those decisions made the final state appear practically inevitable after the early overextension in the bottom left. The Lightning Strike at the end was the perfect climax.

Cool videos 🙏. If possible for future replays, can you tweak the layout a bit so the menu that shows up when hovering over squares/units showing info like capture status, pipe seam damage, fuel remaining, etc, is displayed on screen next to the map instead of hidden off in the lower left corner? It's just a minor thing & it's understandable if it can't be toggled bc it would mean maybe shrinking the map on screen &/or not including the top right info, but if it can be done, would be helpful to see. Great video once again, though I think there was an opportunity for you to have made a decisive move on day 15, possibly forcing a resign. Just sharing what I see, and would love to hear your thoughts. At 1:01:30, you were at 67450/81000 for LS, and you've exposed Tordread's AA in the bottom left, as well as his full-hp tanks in the middle. You have a copter that could be sacked into the AA, which would bring you to 76450/81000. Taking engagements with both the 6 and 7 hp tanks against his tanks would have given you LS. It would mean your recon could also provide vision in the mid, then use 2x movements to provide vision to the top-right, before deciding if your Neotank + AA should engage The best part of this is that you get LS before Tordread uses his WF, and usually that means GG for the Olaf player. Especially since he doesn't get any power charge because he's already full at the start of your LS push. Of course, this puts you into a position where Tordread would be able to unleash WF + strike into your army (something you mentioned we should avoid in another video). Just wondering if the pre-WF SCOP opportunity is worth the losses to be suffered in his retaliation.

It’s interesting, and potentially risky, because in order to make it worthwhile, i would need to attack with both neotanks to make it worthwhile, and it leaves me vulnerable to counterattacks (especially if tordread has as many neotanks as i do). I’d have to look at the turn with full vision to see if it would be decisive enough to win outright, but the opportunity is there certainly.

@@Elagatua Wow! Wasn't expecting a reply, and certainly not so quickly. I'm honored :) Yeah well, compared to the flawless LS you managed to pull off at the end (especially since it was orchestrated to be inevitable for Tordread), taking this risk on day 15 is not necessary. But I think it's a decent consideration. Prior to coming across your videos, the Voice of Akasha videos were some of the best AWBW plays available for viewing. And he often looked for opportunities to trigger victory conditions where others would not see one. Anyway, awesome victory and awesome videos. All the best in upcoming games and tourneys!

This has been extremely informative. I'm a bit of a Fog brainlet, it's the only mode where I consistently lose, so having a more in depth explanation on how to bait my opponent and calculating odds without looking at the map with full vision (as it's usually the case with deejus' videos) will really help me out. I wanted to ask a couple of questions though: 1) What program did you use to write on the replay as you were filming it, and can those scribbles be kept on the screen while you record them? 2) I have noticed at around 12:09 that for a brief moment you have full vision of everything surrounding the Comm Tower, but the tower itself. Is this a good way to get that little extra bit of vision out of your units placement, in the niche situations that allow it? 3) How many turns in advance do you have to prepare for, in general, to be at least competent in Fog? i.e. calculating the amount of funds you're going to have at a given day to make sure to only have the option of base skipping, instead of being forced to etc.

1. i use a program called ZoomIt which lets me draw custom stuff on my screen, and then OBS can pick that up. 2. it's mostly just a coincidence based on the terrain of the map. i want the recon in the forest because it gives good vision of the north two properties, and also if the recon gets attacked, the counter attack will be very strong. and i coincidentally have vision to the left of the tower because my infantry was capping the city. 3. it's extremely difficult to plan more than 1 turn in advance because in fog you constantly have to react to stuff. i think once you get out of the capture phase, the most important thing is to have some kind of "next objective" that you're trying to accomplish. and what that objective is will depend on the CO matchup and the map, but so often fog can devolve into "push further until reinforcements clobber my army", so choosing smart objectives and playing around them is a good way to avoid the overextension mentality.

eagle has trouble against t1 because COs like von bolt can bully eagle really hard in the capture phase. you could argue that he's viable against hawke, but being down 10% attack on 1 tower maps is a big disadvantage. but on maps where eagle can reliably get into the 20K+ income range, he's very strong, especially for top players

Maybe I'm just one of those "lesser players who would just yeet everything" but to me it looks like you had more than enough attacks to achieve a triple comm tower lightning strike and achieve game ending damage before the first winter fury had you gone all out on day 14. Typically an Olaf that gets hit by lightning strike before the first winter fury is doomed. Were you just short of the power charge you needed or were you concerned that a lightning strike into the unknown wouldn't achieve enough damage to win?

3 bars; 27000 charge; is a lot. You can estimate a tank-tank engagement to be 3500 charge, so that's like 7.7 tank engagements required to get lightning strike. Elagatua only has 3 full hp tank-trades, along with the scraps that the 6hp and 7hp tank will get, and the full hp blast from the Neotank. All that together might optimistically get him 18000? the other scraps that the infantries can gather almost certainly won't be enough to make up the extra 9k.
