Thanks so much as always for the in--depth analysis! I managed to clock a win against Laska on this map in t4 yesterday, my first time playing on it. I owe the results to a couple of key takeaways from this video, even though some of the Sami-specific strats weren't available to me there.

The amount of skill you need to play Sami properly is insane.

Honestly the level of planning to figure out the "likely enemy recon range of vision at this point in the game in order to bait them into attacking my infantry" is just insanely impressive.

At roughly 1:07:00, I wonder why you've chosen to opt for a 2nd t-copter instead of an APC. Considering the black boat struggles with fuel already, the refueling seems like a nice way to keep mech and infantry reinforcement strong. The terrain also does not seem too bad, from what I counted, the t-copter would get 1 tile further into the center if we ferry something from the city to the right of the main side left base. I can only imagine the flexibility of shifting the t-copter to the top right area might be interesting, but you could also just shift the first t copter there once the APC and black boat are there for the bottom left. I assume its easier for our "flex base" to be in range of a t copter than an APC. Maybe I'll find out later in the video. Edit: I got kinda an answer at 2:25:00, but only about apc vs t copter as the first/only transport build.

I really enjoyed this video. You explained optimal map tactics and strategies clearly and I learned a lot. Keep up the great work!

Stunning play! Thanks for explaining the details. I feel like Sami vs Kindle is viable if you're a high-level player AND you get the best of the start. But if the start goes against you, you're probably doomed however you play: see game two. And if the match-up is only even when you win the start... it isn't really even. Impressively close though v Kindle.

2:22:10 Small detail, but you cannot put a recon on the bridge in two turns because you have to go through two plain tiles. You had already said it during the 1st game review but it didn't matter at that point, meanwhile this time it counters your argument about the possibility of attacking the middle city alongside the pipe with the bottom recon in three turns which just isn't possible.

Great video as always! I played this map before, and like you picked Jess as Sami in fog very rarely crosses my mind

1:28:35 I would rate it as devastating. It would have been apocalyptic if rip hadn't had to sacrifice a copter to do it. But it certainly made a game out of what should have been a stomp.

@ 29:30 You are wrong about the infantry movement telegraphing the lack of tanks. A tank couldn't reach that city anyway, (not unless it was already in vision, or moved suboptimally) but it could reach that shoal, and so if there was a tank, what rip would do, would be what he did anyway. Baiting the recon to attack from the shoal, so the tank can get a one shot.

Much digital ink has been spilled about CO powers in Advance Wars, especially the notion that "I'm being punished for winning." This video demonstrates quite well that they are meant to be an additional dimension to combat, one that players ignore at their peril. It makes matches more dynamic. Kudos to rip_ for having the intuition to spot that vulnerability and exploit it to great effect, him and StarFlash have both shown the ability to make incredible comebacks from back-foot positions.

Hey Elagatua, Laska here ! Happy you casted this game, I hope people could learn things of it, and yeah it was an intense game. Also, I discovered FoW is quite cool with your videos (firstly with the one of me vs Go7), and now I begin to understand the dynamics of vision, reinforcement, ect by watching your commentaries on other replays. So if I can fight RIP_ quite fairly here, it's a bit thank to you. :) I learned a lot from your commentaries on this video too, with the local mistakes, with the positioning of the units and and all. Still have a lot to learn ! Some supplementary comments, that might interest people : → 23:33 seeing this now, I should have attack with the day 3 recon, because seing the left infantry on the plain, I should have deducted that it was a transport opening, with quite little possibilities for a tank to counter it, and going on the city. → The Lander : I think I would have been good if I keept control of the situation, but the instant it spiraled out of control, the lander couldn't give enought value. The Idea was to take cities of the south after a big front switch, that never happened. → 1:20:05 The AA on the cataclysmic turn : Yeah, sometimes in life, you do things, and the instant you do it, you know you fucked up. When I moved the 2HP recon, I did it to damage the infantry, because I was expecting an big attack on the south, and wanted to delay the captures. And to my full surprise, there was nothing and.. I don't know exactly what happened in my brain.. But yeah, seing it again, I don't know what I was thinking. But one thing for sure, I fully underestimated the front switch to the north, In my head I was to focus on the potential attack on the south, and I let my guard down. → After that, I'm out of tempo and I'm only reactingto RIP's moves, and he don't do bluders like I did, so unable to catch up But yeah, that was an intense match; and next time, I won't do the same mistake eheh. Congrats to RIP to get the smacky cup !
