This kind of deep level analysis about the strengths and weaknesses of a CO, in this case Grimm, is super valuable. Another great replay analysis. All the best for the break / vacation

I played this map a a few times and felt that the player that goes aggressive on their strong side really sets the pace of the game. Early mechs really forgoes that. Investing in the weakside of this map feels really awful.

on this map, drake is often going to anticipate kindle harass, so i think drake's idea was to wait a bit to try consolidate control of that corner, but it unfolded too slowly and drake paid for it the entire rest of the game

Love how you use pigeonhole principle to illustrate that the weaker side shouldn't attack everywhere at once. You see the other side of this in real wars, where attackers will attack across the front to push a single advance, so the defenders can't concentrate their forces.

Great commentary, very Interesting. I don't know if you saw but there was a Smacky round 3 game that just ended exactly as you previously suggested with the Olaf vs Eagle strategy of waiting until turn 20ish to fight: Kilmefirst vs. Sherrdreamz in division 1 - H. I would be very interested in a quick analysis of that game by you (it should be pretty short considering its just staring until a massive lightning strike slaughter)

Thanks for the analysis, learned a lot. Just one thought - what do you think about building a battleship on this map? As I watched the video, around the time the Neotank was built, I thought that saving a bit a turn earlier and building a battleship would be basically a game over - it prevents Kindle from brawling in the middle, ensures the 2 middle cities captures (sooner or later) and forces Kindle to a stall on the sides, which I think favors Drake heavily. Is there something I'm missing? Seems to me as the most Drake response to Kindle aggresion.
@Elagatua2 ай бұрын
the main challenge is that it's such an investment; imagine if that neotank didn't arrive and kindle just tries to fight elsewhere on the map. additionally the battleship takes a while to come online; you have to build it, move it once (eventually to avoid urban blight), and only then can it start shooting. so imo the neotank was a more versatile choice

Always learn a ton when watching your videos. What are your thoughts on the drake player not building a single copter!? When I play drake I often still like to throw in the odd one or two for the unit count and copter tank combo.
@Elagatua2 ай бұрын
@@Cyraxslayer666 it’s kind of a gamble on drake’s part; the idea is that drake is trying to get those center properties with max pressure before drake runs out of infantry. If things were just a little bit more in Kindle’s favor by the end, the lack of infantry would become a big problem. I think mixing in a copter would have been good, but here Drake opts for tech which is the other option.
@robdogracing2 ай бұрын
Reason for/against building a battleship to help capture the 2 properties? Drake has good naval right?
@Elagatua2 ай бұрын
yeah i think there could have been merit to that in this game, although the risk is that kindle just plays for the top left corner or tries to sneak attack the city in the bottom right. building a battleship sacrifices a lot of mobility and can be more risky in a day limit game.
@robdogracing2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the response and insight.

The math on Drake's SCOP is actually very simple: It does somewhere between 20% and 99% damage to the enemy army. If all enemy units are 10 hp full health, it does 20%. If all enemy units are 3 health, it does 99% damage, knocking them all down to 1% hp. And it's a linear relationship, meaning the more low health units the enemy has, and the lower the health those units have (down to peak of 3 hp) then the more of their value Drake's SCOP wipes out.
@fluhfie46022 ай бұрын
There's a few things wrong about this. If an enemy unit is at 3hp, it DOES NOT simply knock them down to 1%hp. Drake SCOP reduces unit hp by 20% from what it is at. a 3hp unit is at somewhere between 21% to 30% hp which will get reduced to 1% to 10% hp respectively. Additionally, in theory, Drake's SCOP can do less than 20% of the army value if there is sufficiently many 1hp units, that don't actually lose " army value" although that never actually happens in practice unless you're doing FFA and 6 Drakes SCOP your army in a row and that last Drake SCOP does absolutely nothing. That being said, the units at 1hp and 2hp units will be reduced to 1hp at 1%hp.
