I cut mostly dry standing lodge pole cuz that's what have but we also have some good sized doug fir. I've found that even dead standing fir is never dry enough to burn. If I get it early enough in the spring and get it split and put in the wood shed I can burn it in the fall but I usually let it dry a year. I've been getting fire killed lodgepole that's about 6 years old now and the bark is mostly gone. I think it's the best wood I've ever used, better than red fir. Something about getting killed by fire, the wood now is super dry but still heavy and real solid and burns very hot. Have you noticed this about fire killed wood? Just curious.

David, what’s the “length” of the firewood that you’re trying to achieve? From someone on the outside looking in it appears to be “about” 20”.

All the firewood trees I cut are already dead and when I’m cutting timber on our tribal ground we leave seed trees just for that reason and our tribe has our own forestry team who does all the planning…. Don’t go off half cocked buddy it makes you look stupid

dude, sharpen your splitter. it ain't supposed to bounce like that!
@mountainlifewithdavidkelsie
@mountainlifewithdavidkelsie 2 ай бұрын
Well since I can tell you are new I will take it easy on you… for one my axes are always sharp! For two it don’t matter what you have for a splitter in super dense fur it will have some bounce back if it’s a bit twisted or stringy wood… and for three you better do some research on the channel before you go bumping your gums to me… I’ve done this my whole life and have a system that works best for me in my area! Have a wonderful day slick
