Quick clarification. Around 2:51 I demonstrate this with the Cycle Range. I just wanted to clarify that it was not my intent to use it for cycle recording (loop recording). It will not work with cycle recording after the first pass. My intent there was only to show that you can use the cycle range to control the start point of the playback, without having to manually set the playhead.

Not being able to cycle punch in has always bugged me! I try it again whenever a new version drops. You know as a guitar player how nice it would be to loop, but have a few moments to collect your thoughts before it punches in and out. I usually record parts of guitar solos about 600-11 million times. :)

Yeah, I found this video while looking for a way to cycle a couple of measures but only record over a certain phrase that crosses bar lines without recording over a previous part. This would be helpful for recording vocals phrase by phrase. Is there a way to do this?

It's absolutely insane to me that Apple doesn't allow Cycle and Punch to work in conjunction. I work in several DAWs, and while most of the time I do love Logic, sometimes I find it laughable that they put 'Pro' in the name when compared to workflow and functionality in the others I use (Cubase Pro & PT)

Yeah I don't get it neither, it WAS possible on Logic 9, as shown in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKrImaOHjNGle9Esi=uu0L9cGHrKHTD913&t=454

great tip! thanks, i just set the playback head a certain number of bars prior and hit record, usually via my ipad and remote. i then hit stop and clean up the front and back of the area, and comp it if i wish.

Not sure what options i have selected, but I make a selection with the marquee tool, Press R on the keyboard, or record on my NI controller, and it automatically jumps to the beginning of the selection and records, with a one bar count in. i don't have to manually move the playhead. Also works with instrument tracks. I have 10.7.6
@MusicTechHelpGuy Жыл бұрын
You have a count in selected. Here’s the problem with that. If you are punching in a recording, you want to hear the previous take outside of the punch range. With the method you’re describing, you won’t hear the previous take before you jump. That was the reason why I made this tutorial, to avoid that,

You can use Quick punch with the Logic Remote app without a second person. This is how I record myself when recording my Rhodes piano.

Thanks for the tips as there were a few other things I noticed in the video that helped me too. Is there an option to overdub audio recordings. I like the punch in aspect but what if I just want Logic to keep the audio as I overdub some more ideas.

In the earliest versions this was much easier! Just click on the location where you want to record with the marquee tool and that's fine, the recording will not stop until you stop it. This way you didn't have to select the area where you wanted to use it and you didn't get the chance of losing anything

This don’t work for me. When i try to use the Marquee tool shortcut to punch in and hit record, nothing happens. The red bar don’t show up or moves to where i got the marquee tool located to punch in. I got the autopunch in my control bar and been it using for years, but now i want to use the marquee tool to punch in much quicker for better work flow efficiency!
@PepperDeVillle6 ай бұрын
Same here. I set up the marquee tool and make a selection. It just records from wherever the play head is instead of my punch selection.
@PepperDeVillle6 ай бұрын
Right click on the auto-punch icon. Then check the box for "Marquee tool engages auto punch recording."

Thanks, a timesaver! Unfortunately auto-punch doesn't work with cycle recording. At least for me: Only in the first take/cycle, the auto-punch works, for the following cycles, record mode is disabled. Is there any setting to change that?
@MusicTechHelpGuy Жыл бұрын
I was actually only implying that you use cycle range as an easy way to set the start point of the playback, not to actually use cycle recording. It keeps you from having to reset the play head position in between takes. But after rewatching that section I can see how I might be easily misunderstood there. Auto punch will not work with cycle recording.
@lighteenblind Жыл бұрын
@@MusicTechHelpGuy Having to reset the playhead position between takes is really annoying for me. I am still looking for a solution When I record, 1 position the playhead where I want it 2 I press "r" then I play. But when I'm wrong, I press space to stop recording. And then CtrlZ to erase. Then I press "r" But I can't simply just press "r" again to redo the recording. Because each time I have to reposition the reading head in the right place that I had defined at the start. It's a waste of time, and I don't know how else to do it If anyone has a solution I would like to take it. (Sorry for my English) 🙃
@MusicTechHelpGuy Жыл бұрын
@@lighteenblind If you use the cycle range as I do around 2:51 in the video, you will no longer have to reposition the playhead each time. You can't use cycle recording for "loop recording" with auto-punch; however, simply setting the cycle range where you want to start is why I demonstrate that in the video. The play head will automatically jump to the beginning of the cycle range when you hit R.
