5:40 Read, write, touch, latch. Understand that a lot better now. Thanks. Also the shift control drag automation to get various curves is very useful. ❤️👏🏻🧘🏽♀️ region based automation is great too

Just when I thought I had a fair grasp of the basis of automation, this video unravels more ability to utilize the settings even better!

Super useful video. I have been so frustrated with changing volume on a track after volume automation has been written. I finally started adding a Gain plugin and automating that instead just so I could later adjust volume without going crazy. I never knew about the Trim option. Thanks for another great video. Highest quality Logic Pro videos out there, and I've seen a lot of them.

I much prefer to use a plugin in the last slot on the channel strip for volume automation in order to continue having access to fader and overall volume, without having to switch over to region and/or use the trim option. The Step FX master output has the closest fader curve to Logic Volume and is completely transparent when all functions are disabled.

Thank you for explaining Read, Write, Touch and Latch. As an Ableton user I was getting a bit confused on how to automate properly in Logic so I stuck to Read Mode at the time

Excellent video sir, I have a big question regarding automation. If you have a whole arrangement or a section that you wish to shift along the time line you can click move automation with region but this will not move the automation on your bus tracks & there may be a substantial amount. Please can you advise.

You explaining trim saying "that's pretty freakin' awesome" must sound weired to a beginner but I'm sitting here like: "What the freakin' freak, that's possible?!?!!!!" I used to do volume automation only by automating the gain on a gain plug-in to get a similar effect.

So, with the [command] key down, hit the add new track also copies the content as well. That will save me a few million mouse clicks in the next year. Thanks! I guess I need to brush up on the hot keys.

I realized recently logic's automation drawing and scaling tool limitations. it can't draw sine wave curves, etc. both studio 1 and fl studio do this. this is obviously faster and less tedious than drawing with the logic tools. i used to be happy with logic too but now i see its limitations clearly. curved automation is useful for adding vibrato and modulation effects but then i realized how hard it actually is to draw and scale and move sets of uniform shaped curves in automation in logic! I'm actually shocked how hard logic makes it! it's like the drawing tools of MS Paint circa 1991. what i want is a DAW with BOTH score editing and better automation drawing and scaling tools. not asking for the moon here. that looks like studio one. i am glad i already started using it recently and will continue to prefer using it to logic. whenever there is an update to logic they add features i couldn't care less about and never improve things i actually need. for projects i have in logic until i am done working on them i have to draw curves with the pencil tool a hundred times until i finally nail it. thanks apple! oh yeah then even if i finally get the curves decent enough to move on, if i need to move them later at all i am screwed because that's borderline impossible.

This is great my dude. Any chance you know how to raise the automation point consecutively without having to zoom in to get that fine tuning. For example. If I have automation with a point at 12.3db and I'm trying to get it up to 12.5db. It's a pain in the ass to keep moving that point until it hits that exact number. At times it'll kind of bounce all over the place before I hit that exact number I'm looking for Is there a command that will allow me to move it one point at a time. Thanks again for such awesome content. Cheers.

Great video as always! I would like to ask you something about midi assignments. Can I assign a plugin's specific numeric value on a drum pad, or a key? For instance, from logic's Tape Delay On C3 -> 50% feedback, on D3 ->90% feedback, on E3-> 300ms delay time, etc.. I don't want to move a knob in a linear way, but to instantly recall a plug in's value.

Is there a way to fine tune automation parameters? I have a test oscillator set to 168.61 Hz and I want it to gradually (and smoothly) increase the frequency over time to 173.61 Hz. Any ideas for how to do that? Thanks!

im new and idk much but i wonder if there is a way to link a noise wave or sample and hold to a parameter maybe in a synth plugin or something? but idk for connecting it to actual automation. it would be cool if there was a massive mod matrix function in logic. idk maybe there is..?? my friend just said in new ableton u can assign and lfo to any parameter, which seems like a similar concept
