MY MIND IS BLOWN! I seriously want to thank Professor Jono Buchanan and the Guildhall Schools Electronic Music Department for their efforts to help others via youtube, for people like me who cant afford more education but want to learn. You could have chose to charge for this seminar, but chose not to. I wish I had known these simple tools years ago. I have been doing things the hard way for so long, unnecessarily creating an overwhelming workload. Which at times makes me procrastinate finishing projects. Not only was it extensively informative, but this video and presentation were produced with outstanding professional quality. The audio and visual kept me on the edge of my seat until the end. I couldn't stop rewinding so I could take notes and get screenshots. A+ work IMO. I will share this video to others in the future.
@xaosnox6 жыл бұрын
Agreed! I think it's wonderful that people share their expertise. There is enough money being made in the industry that it can afford to water a few seeds. It kind of makes me sick that guys like Chris Lord Alge won't do anything that doesn't put money in their pockets, and they'll happily put their names on a bunch of plugins that they would never even use just to line their already fat pockets. The "industry" has pretty much killed music. IME, the most talented people came from very modest means. If I went to audition a band and saw a giant drum cage and a guitar player with a full stack and a half in their practice room, it was a pretty good chance they were a band with whom I wouldn't want to sing.

I use Logic every day, and while I don't nearly consider myself a pro, I know my way around it pretty well. That being said, there have always been parts of Logic that I've just pretended don't exist, so I don't have to figure them out! This is incredibly useful for anyone looking to hone their Logic prowess or just realize they've been doing things the hard way for years. This is seriously good stuff.

I can see how I definitely need to upgrade to Logic Pro X. Garageband has certain limitations that though in my earlier DAW I had augmented and increased to make it almost like Logic Pro I don't seem to be able to expand and use instruments I had like the EXS24 that I could use in my old suped up Garageband with it's extra virtual instrument library. Compression was hardly necessary on reel to reel tape because clipping didn't break up the signal as severely as digital and the recording was sort of compressed a bit, back in the day we mainly used it for Bass and Drums and low frequency sounds that explode into the mix. Another way of approaching the less severely squashed compression you've got on the drums is to reduce the threshold level. Good point about the input gain on the microphones, on old desks we had a function called pfl or 'pre-fade listen' to get recording levels right.
