How come this has only 27k views? Literally, everybody shows Noise Gate and calls it a tutorial, which is absolutely useless. This is the actual solution everybody needs. I'm gonna share this in all the groups I know
@MTTC4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. Yes there is an unfortunate misconception that a noise gate is a noise reduction tool which is far from the truth as you can see. I really do appreciate you sharing this as it will spread the word to more people who need to know. Many many thanks. Cheers.😀

This is the best tutorial on Logic I have ever seen. I'm a podcaster, and I have longed for some clearer explanation of the tools that are buried in that behemoth of a software program. I had to record in an echo-ey room, and the Expander filter did a nice job. Thank you so much.

Fabulous tutorial!! I have been looking for just this - a simple, clear explanation of how to deal with general background noise. Thanks for this video! Now here's the question: RX Elements or RX 9 Standard?
@MTTC2 жыл бұрын
You are very welcome Jake. You pose a great question! It all depends on how much audio repairing you’ll need to be doing. I’m still using RX7 Elements on my laptop and have no need whatsoever to upgrade as it meets my needs. I’ve also got access to RX8 Advanced (monster big boy) and I hardly ever need to use it. So that’s my take on it. Cheers for the feedback 😀

Hi. This was SO HELPFUL. Thank you so much for these tips! I was wondering which of these tips do you combine together and which ones you do separate? If separate, what occasion do you use which tip for, generally? Thanks!!!
@MTTC3 жыл бұрын
First of all thanks for your feedback I appreciate it very much. Secondly in terms of the combination tips or process the best way is to go by what you hear. I always normalise my audio and I always use either the Waves X Noise or iZotope RX for cleaning the audio. I never use both plugins together. But ultimately your ears will tell you what you should or should not use on each given project. Cheers 😀
@angelno.134 жыл бұрын
you think its wise to use expander for vocals which then be compressed? - surely I would have to compress heavier to compansate for expansion which is fine, but wouldnt it have a negative effect on overall quality? - over compressed vocals
@MTTC3 жыл бұрын
You make a very good point. I suppose my method is always governed by what I’m hearing. Sometimes it’s not even necessary to use a compressor or EQ on a piece of audio because it already sounds great and by adding an additional plug-in or effect will simply take away from the natural sound. The judgement always has to be based on whether or not the effect applied is making a positive or negative difference. Therefore if The Expander is enhancing your vocal then by all means run with it if however it is causing degradation and unnatural audio results then remove it. My advice is always go by what you’re hearing and less by what you are saying. Hope that makes sense. Cheers. 😀

when i applied the noise suppression expander to my vocal i lost all of its reverb & compression and it wont let me add it back. Is there anyway to get around this if you want to use noise suppression expander on your music track to get a cleaner vocal?
@MTTC2 жыл бұрын
The Logic Noise Suppression Expander is not as sophisticated as other 3rd party tools. If the natural reverb of your vocal is removed you will either need to add a reverb plugin to the channel or re-recorded your vocal with less background noise thereby not needing to rely so heavily on the use of noise reduction. That’s the best I can suggest. Cheers 🙂

Really good Video! Just a question. When I'm using the "Selection-based Processing" It's lowering the whole sound on the audio file... It does take away the "Room Sound" which is great. But I don't want it to lower my Audio file in Volym?? What do I do?
@MTTC4 жыл бұрын
Good question. You could compensate for the loss in gain by raising the gain of the audio region using the controls in the region inspector which lies in the upper left corner of the main Logic window. Another thing you can do is add a compressor to the channel and use this to add some gain back in. Hope this helps. Cheers 😀
@lartghtv4 жыл бұрын
Really helpful thanks 🙏🏾 but can u use gate and noise removal plugins on same channel??

@MTTC3 жыл бұрын
Hi there. This is a great question. In fact I’ve been asked the same thing before and checked with Waves who told me Yes. El Capitan supports v10. When you purchase, you get the latest v13. However, v13 licenses support v10 software. So you can install v10. Hope this helps you out 😀

what about headphone bleed like a trap beats clap/snare/Hihats or what about man dem chatting in the control room and their voice somehow got picked up by the mic which is in a fully sound proofed mic booth ???
@MTTC3 жыл бұрын
This process is to remove low level hum, hiss and reduce room ambience. What you are referring to is interference which can only be removed by reducing the headphone levels and gating. Also I’d encourage you to avoid chatting in the room when an artist is performing on the mic. Cheers. 👍🏾
@pardzzn3 жыл бұрын
@@MTTC so add a gate to the mic yes ? And trust me don't need to advise on the chatting its the other artists i explain to themnconsistantly and they do it again and again lool
@MTTC3 жыл бұрын
You would be better off adding a noise gate as your first plugin on your vocal channel in Logic. Adjust it so when the rapper stops rapping the gate closes and filters out the background chatter. Ultimately you want to fully eliminate the problem by insisting on silence when recording. As a professional it’s what you need to do so you might as well start not. Bless. Duce. 🙏🏾

Very useful tutorial; thank you! After you process an audio track with these various plugins, do you bounce in place the track to save the edits? Or do you use the plugins only in the mix stage? Just wondering; keep up the good work!
@MTTC3 жыл бұрын
Great question. If I’m using this process on a vocal in a track or song then I most definitely will bounce in place. These tools are very process are hungry and add a significant amount of latency due to the amount of processing taking place. For my tutorial videos I’ve got a channel preset setting to clean up the audio in logic which I then bounce down and import into my video editor. This preset includes noise reduction, equalisation, compression and some other bits but as soon as I’m happy with the quality of the processed vocal it’s bounced and exported to my video editor. Cheers

However can I ask a random question? My interface (Saffire 6 USB) has sound when connected to mic and headphones, however I don’t have sound/signal in the daw in Logic Pro X, I have tried everything and their interface driver doesn’t seem to be compatible with the MacOS it wasn’t like that before 🤷🏼😤 can u help?
@MTTC4 жыл бұрын
Good question. There are 2 versions of this unit. Version 2 of the Saffire 6 USB will work on a Catalina Mac but version 1.1 only works up to Mojave. To check which variant you have you can reference the serial number on the underside of the unit: if the serial begins "SU" then you have the USB 1.1 variant, it it begins "S2" then you have the USB 2.0 variant.

My recommendation is to buy the plugin and you will never look back. The Logic built in tools are ok but I only use either the Waves X Noise or iZotope RX DeNoise plugins on all of my voiceover tracks. Remember you only need to buy once and this tool will last you for a very long time. Right now Waves is doing a crazy Black Friday Sale with massive discounts on plugins. Worth checking out. I don’t have any affiliation links for them but worth a look 👀

Control+X will split and cut your whole recoding in all the areas that you're not speaking. and you can adjust it to be more or less.

Absolutely. The Strip Silence command is great for cleaning up gaps between words. Great input. Cheers 😀
