You deserve an award for these tutorials. You aren't just posting helpful videos, you're supplying the masses with the knowledge & tools they need to become exceptional; I feel like I'm in a classroom when I watch these vids. I'm 18; I've only been doing this for a little over a year now, but words can barely express how meaningful and influential your channel has been in my growth as an aspiring audio engineer. (Just as, if not more helpful than "Into The Lair".) All that I'm really trying to say is this: thank you. Seriously. I'll stop babbling now. Take Care.

here are my notes, thanks for taking the time to make these videos... ::Sample Rate:: File>Project Settings>Audio (default is 44.1 kHz) The number of samples taken per second during the analog to digital conversion process. The higher the sample rate the more accurately reproduce mid’s and high’s at the cost of a larger file size. Higher pitches benefit more from a higher sample rate. Whats the highest frequency my Sample Rate can accurately reproduce? Nyquist-Shannon Theorem Highest Frequency x2 = Sample Rate Sample Rate/2 = Highest Frequency example: 44,100Hz / 2 = 22.050 Hz (the highest playable frequency for 44.1 kHz) What happens when my I exceed the maximum frequency playable for my Sample Rate? Foldover/Aliasing is when fold over frequencies (which is excess frequency above your frequency threshold) come back down onto the recording at inharmonic intervals causing unwanted dissonance and noise in the upper frequency range. To avoid this use a higher sample rate so it increases your maximum frequency threshold ::Bit Depth:: Logic Pro X>Preferences>Audio Number of bits of information taken per sample during the analog to digital conversion process. Bit Depth controls the dynamic range of your recording, from your line level (0dB) to the Noise Floor. A lower noise floor makes for easier mixing and mastering and increases recording quality by reducing hiss and hums in quiet passages of a song. The higher the bit depth the wider your dynamic range. Logic Pro offers two bit depths, 24 and 16, unchecking 24 will set bit depth to 16 lowering quality of recording. ::IO Buffer Size:: Logic Pro X>Preferences>Audio The amount of information that logic and your computer will process at once, too high causes latency issues. Low buffers like 32 or 64 your processor is handling information very quickly in small chunks, higher buffers like 512 or 1024 process slowly with large chunks of information. The lower values put more strain on your processor reducing maximum mix plug-ins your processor can handle however it reduces the latency considerably. Use a low buffer when recording and a high buffer size when mixing, mastering, or using playback with lots of plug-ins.

watching these religiously and taking in as much as i can. i will be watching the entire series as well as writing notes. gonna retype and transfer them into my mac, and finally record myself on audio which i will listen to them to get it good and engrained. Thats how i seem to memorize forever stuff in my science major courses (as well as application). I want to get to the point where i just got this stuff down and at a decent enough level to invite the creativity again. i know what i like audibly however its gonna take some time learning the rudiments if i am to ever be truly proficient imho - this is the best man wish i woulda found you a couple months ago

Outstanding explanation! This is BY FAR the BEST explanation of sample rate, bit depth, i/o buffer, etc., and how it might apply to ME in practical usage, that I've found. Just enough theory to understand the why/how, but without forcing me to down 5 drams of single malt in order to bear the high-tech verbiage. I've yet to use the info and internalize it, but I finally understand what this means, and I'm excited to put it to use when I record the book-on-tape of my mother-in-law griping at me for keeping a messy house...

Thank you for this, very well explained. I had to switch from 96khz 24bit to 48khz still 24bit as it was overkilling my CPU with so many channels in MIDI all running at once. Pity as I loved working in 96. I know there are many ways around this, I'll upgrade my Mac to a more powerful CPU.

Wow, this is a great video, not only the content but also the presentation. Many of the professional videos "suffer" by the style of the presenter. Some are too boring, some try to be funny and end up being weired and in the way. Your presentaion is just perfect (maybe use a pop filter on the mic). The combination of a pleasant and engaging voice plus a great teaching style makes a professional video tutorial. Congratulations.

When we bounce a final project, we are given the option to bounce to a 32 bit floating decimal file. Should we take this option (if we don't care about file size)? Obviously, this gives us more headroom to work with in the mastering, correct? Disadvantages? Advantages? And by the way... This channel is absolutely the first channel anyone should go to learn about recording, mixing and Logic Pro X. I really appreciate your thoroughness and I always come away learning something very useful when I watch your videos. A BIG Thanks!

Mate.. Absolutely brilliant tutorials, great depth of information eloquently delivered. I am just about to move from garage band I pad recording to iMac pro logic x.. I have great studio equipment mics and all that but am a virgin when it comes to the computer side of things.. I am buying an Imac. (Not retina) and will be opting for the fusion drive but what I need to know is will the standard 8gb of ram be adequate.. I generally record with live instruments and some amp modeling and synths but it's a one man operation..
@MusicTechHelpGuy8 жыл бұрын
+Martin Wilson 8GB will be fine, but you may want to opt for something better than the fusion drive. Like just a straight up SSD. You'll find that Logic will operate better and faster with an SSD.
@MusicTechHelpGuy8 жыл бұрын
+MusicTechHelpGuy IMO I think you'd be better off buying a used mac pro tower, and a 1080p non-retina display. Will probably cost the same or less than an iMac, and you can upgrade easily to a solid state drive, and upgrade the ram as well. You'll probably get more life out of it too since, in my experience, the displays on iMacs die and overhead pretty easily. No display to worry about with the Mac Pro, so if your display dies, you just replace the display, not the whole computer.
