Great video, subscribed! Personally, I have been using noise gates on my kit, with a long release, allowing the sound to fade back to zero. Also, you can lower the noise gate's reduction, which lets you keep the life of the kit to whatever level you feel is right, so you can control the definition of the kit to a greater degree. Another advantage is that you can preset these while you record and you get an almost immaculate sound without any adjustment - if you're lazy! Obviously, jazz music is hard to noise gate effectively because of ghost notes, but jazz is about the kit's life, so it doesn't matter so much!

Hi Jono, thanks for the excellent rundown on the remove silence function. I see that around 3:07 in your video you can click on the bar in the remove silence and actually adjust the DB threshold. I have a MacBook pro and I can't do this by clicking on the remove silence bar in the window. I can adjust it on the threshold bar by clicking or writing in the new threshold value, but I'd like to be able to adjust the threshold in the same way as in your tutorial. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Could this be used in gain staging or should you just add or take away gain to the whole track? Just don’t want weird added noise to a final mix
