Some traders on reddit saw an opportunity to damage hedge funds by convincing people to drive the stock up, in the process making money off of those who came in behind them. Narratives about vast potential gains and "revenge" against Wall Street were used to recruit large numbers of low-information investors into the effort. In reality, only one particularly reckless firm called Melvin Capital needed to be bailed out. Some were able to hedge and make money on the upside. Conspiracy theories about market manipulation, illegal short attacks and "naked" short sales only really come into things after the initial pump among bag-holders left out of the profits of the initial frenzy, largely as copium and a way to recruit Greater Fools.

Elon status as an underdog no longer existing is a critical factor in his popularity declining. There are other factors to consider as well. Putting aside the space enthusiasts, which are still big Elon fans, the bulk of Elon’s vocal supports tended to come from the left. With him taking over twitter and ensuring twitter was no longer a left leaning platform, his popularity among those people would have dropped dramatically. While he gets grudging approval from the other side of politics, it was not enthusiastic support. The other side of politics don’t tend to be as vocal in the social media eco system. The problem is that you're obviously exaggerating. Nobody believes in the literal meaning of what you said, and everyone disagrees with each other on what it means for him to be a genius. Some people think Elon Musk is a genius because he's made a ton of very successful companies that sell revolutionary products, which is simply an indisputable fact. Some people think Musk is an idiot because he says cringey things and makes crazy ambitious goals that don't happen as soon or as well as he said it would, which is simply true. Everyone generally agrees. Elon Musk has been the CEO and co-founder of many amazingly successful companies. Nobody disputes this, it's just obviously true. And this is clearly impressive, he's a more successful businessman than everyone who has formed a positive or negative opinion about him. Elon Musk did not hand-craft each and every car and rocket that came off the line. He has smart, talented, hard-working people that do almost all of the work for him. Everyone agrees with this. Generally, people agree that the products made by his companies are a net-positive for society. Rockets that can go to space is better than rockets that bomb other countries. Cars that run on solar panels are better for sustainability than cars that burn a non-renewable resource. It takes an awfully clouded political dogma for someone to think that burning gas is somehow better for the world. And the people who think self-driving cars are unsafe are simply uneducated and ignoring the empirical facts (and/or are too short-sighted to see a future where technology gets good enough that it's better than human drivers). The only part that confuses me is how people can understand all of these things, and still somehow come to completely opposite conclusions about Elon Musk. I think the fans hold the obvious position, and the haters are just bitter, resentful people who see all success as a result of exploitation and put in a lot of extra effort just to see him as a bad guy.

This video needed a bit more work. Here's some grievances Elon has been collecting over time, -Drawing attention and popularity ($$$) out of exploiting juvenile Sci fi dreams like calling his robot prototype "terminator". Colonizing Mars is a lie in a world where flying within the most developed nation is an awful hassle, where most native Americans have hardly flown to Mexico and plenty more do not even consider in flying to Europe. This is true, foreign nations are always covered in media, but laypeople (in any nation) hardly ever consider them. But going back to the issue, Elon got into fantasy projects like if it was shopping. The naked king would be called out sooner or later. -He's a jerk and vulgar person, pretty much Trump type. Bragging how hard he works while spending endless hours trolling, even dishing out a Mexican project as alternative to the Panama channel. He has actually betrayed his people, especially when he sold so much Tesla stock, which he promised not to, he cashed out and left out his followers in the dust, maybe well deserved. But he's also drawn money from everyone from taxes, like his fiasco space program. -The list can go on and on. Thunderf00t has extensively exposed him.

How do you recognize a pathological liar? Embellishing lies with extensive details, Telling dramatic and highly unlikely stories, Appearing anxious while talking, Getting defensive when confronted about a lie, Constantly changing their story or being vague when questioned, Lying about something even when there’s no reason to, Seeming unconcerned with being caught in a lie, Feeling a “high” when they get away with lying, Passing off a story someone else told as their own, and Acting in ways that don’t match their words. We will all find out that Elon may be the greatest con artist of this era.

You're right that nothing's changed. You're wrong in suggesting he was ever a good guy in the first place. He's always been an egotistical self-obsessed megalomaniac, completely full of bs. All that pretending to save the planet speel was just because he knew it was popular and it would help sell the car company he'd bought. The mars thing was just because he wanted to go down in history, and wanted to become dictator of the newly colonised mars (because he was too stupid to see how much of a ridiculous impractical idea it was). The only difference is most people have seen through it now. Only the hardcore section of his insane cult-like fanboys still imagine anything positive in him.

The Tesla engineering is top notch and the brand is married to Elon Musk. He pushes open book way too far. He uses stretch targets too far which is ok but he does it publicly and uses funds raised through deposits held until things are improved enoughed to get what they wanted. Elon is a brilliant business entrepreneur and deserves his wealth and achievement. Everyone has imperfections and disruptive businesses upset vested interests. Big deal, so what who cares. The underdog thing was a small thing imo, Elon created and backed ideas that people thought were changing the world. At one point Elon was saving the planet and creating the future with EVs, tunnels for congestion, Hyperloop to replace trains to advancing space exploration and merging our consciousness with the internet. Now lots of people realize that EVs are a red herring to climate change and denialists never really approved of them. Hyperloop and the tunnel company fell through. Neuralink while exciting also scare the hell out of me when I think of the implications. Elon is probably still one of if not the only example of why billionaires should exist and so perhaps his best contribution is showing how we need to change the tax system to eliminate billionaires.

Part of it is because he isn't fake like every other celebrity and billionaire and you can be sure that he will always voice out his opinions. This is not to say that he doesn't have a darker side and doesn't make mistakes, as Isaacson states, he is a very complex person and he does have different personalities, but his ultimate goal is to benefit humanity and I can appreciate that. He puts crazy amount of work for this goal, no matter the cost. He could stop working tomorrow and have enough money for 100 lifetimes. This is a proof for me that he believes in his mission. It's really annoying how people discredit him because of a few bad things he did, ignoring all of his past achievements of which there are many.

It's not that he's not the underdog, it's that he became unhinged. The first real signs of this I saw was when those children got trapped in a cave in Thailand and Elon called one of the rescue divers a p*do after the diver successfully rescued the children and Elon's schemes didn't work. It was a really unhinged moment. Then during the pandemic a lot of people went kinda crazy during that time and he seemed to get worse. I think he's always struggled with mental health issues but after the pandemic and buying Twitter he's become so rich and powerful that I think he's become really unhinged. And it's a good reminder that no matter how good the original intentions may be: billionaires should not be allowed to exist. It's fundamentally anti-democtatic when a single individual has that much power and influence.

Mr. Mask made a couple erroneous assumptions about EV. First assumption, is that Tesla would have kept a large advantage over competition forever. This idea was based on the fact that by 2020 Tesla had a functional "Full self Drive" software; yet in 2024 this has proven impossible, and in the meantime the Chinese made a good EV at one third of the price. The second assumption was that common people would have made sacrifices for the sake of the environment, paying double for a car which needs one night to recharge and is expensive to repair and insure. The reality is that the 20% of EV owners are all tech nerds - and that is. Common people like EV if they would be as convenient as ICE cars, which they aren't. On the other hand, SpaceX is running in black and will soon deploy Starship; and Starlink which is very good Space Internet. The green economy is not what Mr. Musk believe. Also, crypto money are a scam that honest people don't want to trade with. I have no idea about Twitter - I'm not into politics.
