I finally got a chance to look at the new Logitech G910 with Romer G switches. How do they stack up against their competition?

Nearly 3 years later... you'll be happy to know that the G910 no longer has those key caps. The only ones that look like that on keyboards produced like that now are the mode buttons. Cheers :D

Yup, reporting in from 7 years, with a slightly over 2 year old keyboard, and they've basically fixed all the issues Linus had here except that the keycaps aren't interchangeable, but 3D Printing has kinda fixed that anyways if you're really into custom keycaps.

Whoa. Linus. Hold up. Take a look at the windows key. You can directly feel that it is not a gaming key. Do you want to press the windows key while gaming? NO! You don't want to do that. Why would you. So the windows key has the curve upwards so that you feel that you hit the wrong key before you press it. I think it is a great design choice.

GPstU I got that same switch on my G510. I use it often since I have windows 10. It's so annoying to turn it off while gaming (since I only remember to turn it off when I accidentally press it) and after gaming it's annoying if I need to use the windows key and it's turned off. It's a cool feature for people who do not use the windows key, but for me it's useless. It's more important to be able to feel it.

From someone who has this keyboard for over 2 weeks now I really think he was a bit unfair about this one. Yes the keycaps are a bit weird at first but after a bit I feel totally at ease with it. Let's not Forget about all the plus with this keyboard, great and easy to use software with not soo many lighting options but has all I need, great and silent switches (noisy switches are unacceptable for me) that are great for someone who never owned a mechanical keyboard before. To conclude I like it and do not regret buying this keyboard.
@android055
@android055 9 жыл бұрын
I agree with you about this. After having so many issues with my K95 freezing and the software and backlighting not working properly, I decided to look for something else that was RGB. I watched this review and a couple others that made me feel that the keycaps would be a huge issue. So I went to the store and tested them out and they aren't bad at all, I actually like them. I felt that they help my fingers not roll onto the other neighboring keys and I didn't have the "tripping up" problem he was talking about in the video. The switches are what makes the decision hardest for me seeing as they do have a "mushier" feel. I don't really care much for the "Gamer" look either but I will have to live with that. I really think Corsair has dropped the ball on their keyboards since they don't really work without their software and the software doesn't work work in the first place. After testing the G910 keyboard out I will probably return my K95 for this keyboard since i know Logitech's software actually works and works well.

I must have an updated revision of this. I totally agree with Linus on the switches, they feel just perfect. Typing is so much fun and gaming is drastically improved. They changed the keycaps on mine, they aren't all grooved like in the one Linus has, only the WASD and arrow keys have them, which is actually an awesome touch. The software being slightly laggy is my only criticism really.

I fell in love with this keyboard a few months ago while i was in a Best Buy and got the keyboard for myself not that long ago. The switches are amazing don't feel anything like rubber domes when either in game or typing. I thoroughly enjoy the keycaps, i find them really fun to play and type with, and i love the aesthetic that the keycaps provide. Well worth the price and i could easily see myself buying another or at the very least saving the keycaps and putting them on another Romer G keyboard.

Well...I actually like how the G910 keys are shaped and it's a mystery to me how people get stuck on them...but looking at the video...it looked like Linus was trying to "swipe" over the keyboard like a smartphone screen...who does that? XDDD Each to their own, I guess. But to me the G910 is an all around nice product...the only thing that annoyed me is the arx dock being colored...they should really just have made it black. But I'll survive.

I'm so glad I found this review. I got the Razer Blackwidow keyboard last year to replace my aging G15 keyboard. I initially got the version with "green" switches, but the click was so irritating that I literally couldn't type with it. I exchanged it for the version with the "orange" (no click) switches and it simply doesn't feel very good. After trying various Cherry MX switches I've come to the conclusion that I simply do not like them at all, but finding a good keyboard without them is becoming more and more difficult. This review mentioned what I liked most about the keys on the G15, and after asking a few of my gaming friends which keyboards they use, I found two that have the G910 and both say they love it. If it weren't for this review, I never would have known the 910 didn't have Cherry switches, so thank you, thank you, thank you!!

G710+ is still the best logitech keyboard for me. Brown switches are the sweetspot for me anyway and the keyboard has such a good design. No crazy lighting, good size and all the extras I need. Having experience with Cherry MX Blacks, Blues, and Browns, these switches are a huge step up in design and quality. More nuanced, even, and luxurious than browns, with the two-stage actuation feedback of blues (and the texture is dope), without the joint crushing bottoming out of blues and blacks. I ditched my Steelseries 7G for this keyboard, and after taking a couple of days to get used to the key caps, I beat my WPM record on typeracer that I'd scored with my blues and blacks (112WPM), with a score of 113WPM using the Romer Gs. It is by far and a way, THE best feeling, performing, and quality laden keyboard on the market, and this is comparing it to blues, blacks, and browns from Das Keyboard (was going to get the brown Das Keyboard 4 before trying this), Steelseries, and Corsair/Das Keyboard respectively. The ONLY thing lacking on this keyboard (aside from the subjective desire for more availability of a different palm rest) is the lack of key-cap customisation, as I would also personally prefer to have that choice (I suspect I may break my record again), but this is in no way a huge bane. The keys were designed from the ground up to be easily serviceable, as I have just recently tested (the keys glide off when reasonably gripped, with ease). I suspect that this will change in short order, as Logitech has a marvellous winner of a creation with the Romer Gs, and I suspect that Logitech will offer different key caps later as an accessory, if not other non-gaming keyboards with the Romer Gs. That's just the 2c of someone who appreciates the finer things in life, especially the ecstasy that comes from gliding one's hands over a mechanical keyboard in a blissful typing spree.

Lol 7 years of gaming and this thing has stood the test of time. I still use the phone cradle lol and not a single led , key or anything on it has failed, stuck etc. Zero issues! And its still supported by G-hub! I cringed at spending $200 for a keyboard back then, but after 7 years of gaming, if it ever fails, id do it again and probably go with the 915!

I love my Logitech G710+, it has just the right amount of keys without being a "gaming keyboard" and the brown switches are perfect in my opinion. It was weird though, no where on the packaging or their own website description did it mention what keys they used? Luckily they had one on display at Best Buy and I took a cap off to confirm. Definitely the best keyboard I've used in a long time! I feel like I'm using my old model M IBM when referring to typing speed, this particular keyboard has that fast feel unlike other gaming keyboards I've tried before.

***** It does have that elegant look! l'm a black board, black keys kind of guy, though the orange accent around the G keys are fine. Dude, I love my G710+ so much. I was a bit disappointed that it is not as noisy as my CM Storm Mechanical Keyboard (Blue Switches) but I fell in love with it so much to the point that if this one breaks I would really consider buying the same brand new keyboard. It would have been awesome if they made a version of the G710+ with RGB colors haha but yeah at first i thought the G910 was going to be my new keyboard but to me it's all just a showoff with the keycaps trying so hard to be fancy and not to mention the wrist rest... anyway nice hearing you guys enjoying the same keyboards as mine :)

ikkin05 When they designed the G710+, Logitech stuck to what most consumers would appreciate. Dedicated media keys, semi loud, tactile switches, and key layout that's functional, not overbearing. It has to be the most ergonomic board design I've used in awhile without being too specific to a certain audience. Stance of the keys along with the wrist rest fit perfect for my large hands.

I had my reservations about the angular design keycaps when I ordered mine online after I watched this video review, but I fell in love with them once i started to use them. They keep my fingers in place during FPS games and no risk of slippage. If people are really frustrated with these new keycaps, I do understand that Logitech sells normal keycaps that are compatible with this keyboard as well. I love the individual RGBs, and I never used the small screen on my old G15 keyboard, so scrapping the screen to drive costs down is a pretty good idea. The keys are very responsive of course and I cannot say enough good things about it. It'll be my keyboard for the next 5 years at least. Thanks for the video review. Everything else you had to say about the keyboard was spot on.

Got this as my first mechanical keyboard about 3 years ago. Loved it, and I defended it every chance I got against critics... Until about 6 months ago, when the key switches started failing one by one, causing double-typing on single presses. Switched to a cheap Redragon about a week ago, and now I can see why everyone was critiquing it... Going to avoid the Romer G from now on. Miss those sweet lighting effects though...

A little reminder for people who hate the strange Keycaps and the wristrest on the G910 Orion Spark but like everything else on the keyboard there is a new version of the G910 called the G910 Orion Spectrum which has a better looking wristrest and the strange and crappy design of the keycaps have been removed and replaced with the keycaps you're pretty much familiar with on 99.5% of all Mechanical Keyboards. However i only reccomend it if you really need a wirstrest and macro keys. Otherwise go for the G810.

Linus I wanted to mention that the keys caps were problems designed with the keyboard feet closed. In the vid it looks like you use it with the feet open and it makes a difference. Also the feet were originally designed for people who can't type so they can see the keys better.

You know after watching your review about the shape of the key caps and finally owning this keyboard myself later on. I realize that you greatly overstated the effect they have on typing performance. I recommend you spend more than a few seconds using this keyboard and not allow your preconceptions to override your judgment on this keyboard. Also you can dim the lighting on the keys, the option is even depicted in your video. You can even dim them individually.
@KageGodo

+mewimi Whilst i agree that people should give anything a chance, i would just like to state that you've not thought about a few things. The keycaps themselves, whilst a decent amount of change to them over normal, are not the problem. though Linus says it is a problem, it's mostly a personal use issue. You and others may enjoy the design and like how they are shaped, however that is not true for everyone. everyone types differently, even if it's only a minute change to others. when someone like Linus who enjoys low profile switching of keys that aren't too much like a staircase but also can go down to the bottom (he loves blues, and any blue enthusiast loves to mash them to the bottom for the sound to be as prominent as can be, most the time) has to take a higher route like someone would on a typewriter, it feels unnatural to him. thus why he doesn't like the keys when the design of the edges protruding are causing his movements to be caught when typing. it also does not help that the palm rests, especially on the writer side, is hardly existent at all, if any, making the hand he was using to show the catching of his finger much lower than the other, meaning it is more common on the writing portion of the keyboard. I am not saying the keycaps are absolutely terrible, just that they are not for everyone, especially those who use low profile movements, such as Linus. I myself use a higher path for all my typing, but i still try to be fast and move between keys quickly, and sometimes need a more natural feeling keyboard, thus why i wouldn't use them, considering i have big hands and even a Razer keyboard feels like i'm typing two keys everytime i press due to their narrow size. Overall, and the point i am trying to make here is, whilst i agree he may be exaggerating the keycaps a bit, the fact that they are very different and harshly edged over what has been the norm for a good long time now, means they are not for everyone. especially those who type as well as game, having so many different edges for different letters would be quite the experience to adjust to. so if i may, please do not state that Linus is misinformed or having misconceptions and preformed biased views just because you have your own style and opinion that does not agree with his own. remember, he is trying to use his experiences to the best of his ability to make a neutral review. whilst any reviewer might have some bias, Linus is a respected techie for a reason.

I went to bestbuy today looking for a G910. There's a G910 Orion Spark on display. I tried it and it and surprisingly it was quite comfortable. But the key caps indeed get in the way while moving fingers across the keyboard. Anyway I bought one but noticed later I actually bought the G910 Orion Spectrum. They changed to traditional key caps and symmetrical palm-rest. That makes the new version the perfect keyboard for me.

I would reccomend the Ducky shine zero or shine if you want more colours. They are expensive, but they got Extremely good build quality and flashing leds. Note sure about 4, but 2 and 3 should have basic cases, which mean if you want to buy a new one later on and change parts of the keyboard it shouldn't be to hard. But i reccomend checking that out before doing it anyways. - You could check out Corsair's rgb series, if you want rgb, but im not sure how nice the buildquality is. - There are probably 5 times more out there, but im to lazy at the moment. Check out reddit.com/r/mechanical keyboards, go onto the wiki and see if you can find someone. You may also drop of a comment on the what keyboard/switches should i get page :)

I just got this keyboard, was really hesitant about moving away from cherry switches, if you have the same worry, DON'T, they're really good switches. The software and LEDs are great. Construction is a little meh for the price but acceptable. Hopefully the price will come down in the future, but for an RGB mechanical keyboard it's not too bad. K70 RGB is about £130 here, I got the G910 for £145.

On two points I just have to disagree. The raised edges of the keys do NOT make it harder to type or slow me down in any way. In fact, I find I'm even faster now. Which is important because I work with Linux, and hit all of those hard to reach special characters frequently. Not only is this keyboard ideal for gaming, it's ideal for systems administration. I now know exactly where each key begins and ends making the transition from key to key instantaneous. I can let my fingers fly with confidence. I absolutely love it. Regarding the ctrl shift and window keys not having them, this is also an advantage for me. Because these keys don't have the raised edges, they stand out, and are even easier to identify quickly. I like this when gaming as I use the shift key as the push to talk activation key for chat applications like mumble. Because these keys are unique I can be totally confident I'm hitting the right button. The key cap choice and design has already significantly increased my overall typing accuracy. My advice? Don't let these points deter you from buying this keyboard. It's awesome.

I been using this keyboard for a week now and coming from past generations of LT boards since 10 years back i must say that this is by far the best one i have ever tried (also comparing with friends keyboards, MX etc). The keys are actually really nice and comfy once you get used to them, they really work as marketed (even for typing). Maby i got a newer batch then the tested keyboard but i dont have any problems stucking on keys or hitting the wrong ones. Extremly fast and responsive. No led bleeding and a real joy to use for fps/mobas. Only downside to it is the loud spring sound from typing on it. It does not bother me since i am using a headset, but possible girlfriend and other family annoyance may be warranted.

This keyboard was much better than I thought. Honestly the biggest plus that will be noticed is if you like the feel of the keys as much as I do. That is what you're going to experience with every button press for as long as you use the keyboard and I do love it. My previous keyboard was a razer blackwidow ultimate 2 and it uses one of the louder switch types. When I'm in skype or another voice program I would get comments about how loud the typing was because people could hear it through the mic on my headset. Also it was just loud if I was playing at night so these quieter keys are very welcome. The media keys I won't use EXCEPT the volume roller. This thing is a god send, it's flawless in use and I just never realized how freaking nice this would be until I sat down and used the keyboard for real. Looks is personal preference, personally I think this thing looks amazing. This guy seems to hate a lot of stuff about the board but everything he mentions is just preference related. Certainly I wouldn't buy something that you don't like but I would give the keys and such a try because you can't get the experience from this video and this thing has been a pleasant surprise.
