Video #19 This is a very simple repair of a sticky rotary encoder on a Logitech Squeezebox internet radio from 2010. I expect that this approach would work with most any encoder showing this behaviour.

I have three of these in my house - Kitchen, office and bedroom and absolutely love them. It's my favourite ever electrical device. Just brilliant.

@@tobewithyouhoowell, you can still use Logitech Media Server locally with it. I can't be bothered with all that though - so just bought a couple of cheap Amzon Echo Dots in the spring sale which will do what I need - internet radio streaming alarm clock essentially

Not many choices these days. Grace digital old radios are also obsolete, but they have new ones now. About 5 different ones

Yes, was gutted when they finally pulled the plug. I could go down the Logitech media server route but I stream my music. After weighing it all up, I filled my home with Amazon echo pop speakers which at £20 each are a brilliant multi-room solution

Great tear down! A little tip for anyone else using this tutorial: After removing the two screws holding the PCA/screen assembly, apply pressure from right to left and slide the entire assembly to the left (note how the indentations for the clear screw tabs has clearance on the left side). It should come apart quite easily without any need for prying. Don't try to pry out without first sliding it left. Also, while you have it apart, it's a good idea to clean all the contact traces under the buttons and the undersides of the buttons themselves. Those can collect dust as well. Cheers!

Nice. The shuttle wheel on my Squeezebox exhibits the same symptom as your volume knob. This video will make it somewhat easier for me to attempt a fix. Thanks! :)

Thanks for showing the way. I had to re-solder the power plug as it was a bit flakey.

I have 6 Logitech radios. I love them but they are kinda odd sometimes. I wish I could find spare parts for them. Especially PCB's. As Logitech is canceling the Squeezebox server this month Feb 2024. I bought and set up a Raspberry Pi server. It is working well. The Boom model sounds the best but the main knob on some refuses to "click". That is the part I wish I could fix. The remote will pitch in to help though, just not as convenient. Cheers.

Many thanks for this guide. I need to remove the front screen to clean the on/off button on my SqeezeBox Radio and could not figure out how to unclip it. The other problem I have is that the WiFI disconnects from my new router; I guess I will have to run an ethernet cable. to it. FYI: lots of NAS units run Logitech Media Server. My ReadyNAS RN312 serves music to my SqueezeBox Touch and Radio.

Great. On/off button now works after a good clean with IsoPropyl Alcohol

Great video! Thank you! What do you call that "Slim Jim" looking tool you used to open the unit? Perfect!

Usually called a ‘spudger.’ There are a variety of different styles.

Hey quick question, my mom purchased two of these a decade ago and just recently both of them started to act strange, it wont connect to the wifi.. it eventually randomly does it but then when she wakes up the wifi is gone again.. its strange cause it happenned to both of them at the same time but each in different country lol, im so confused
@sfred Жыл бұрын
It could be a server outage (assuming you're using the logitech server and not a local one), that's the only thing I can think of that would affect two radios in different locations.

Any thoughts on how to fix the Wi-Fi module? Mine keeps disconnecting after it idles

That would be beyond me, but I doubt it would be cost effective.

I have the same problem. I was thinking of adding an old wireless access point just for my SB Radio (not very secure though). I am testing with a wired ethernet connection just now.

Thank you very much for this tear down! My power button was not working probably anymore. The reason was: goo. How ever it was getting there. Anyhow, after cleaning the contacts and the conductive of the buttons, all works fine again.

I have the same radio. It keeps dropping even though I have updated the software, set to factory settings, etc. the only way I can listen is to connect via Ethernet and now it sometimes won't even do that!

Was looking if I could add a BT receiver in it, looks kinda complicated to find a spot.

I just use the audio in on the back. There's no need to screw around with a radio that already has a line in.

My wifi works for 60 to 70 seconds then dies. Is there a way to buy a new the wifi "piece", and replace it ?
@sfred2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, but I doubt it would be practical even if it is possible.
@SemiEvolvedSimian Жыл бұрын
Mine was doing that a few months ago. Oddly enough, I was able to correct it by connecting it via ethernet and changing the network to Wired. After it established a solid connection, I changed it back to wifi and it miraculously works fine now. Don't know why that worked or if that will solve your issue, but it's an easy experiment. The wifi chip itself is a BGA package that's soldered directly to the board, so it would be very difficult to replace, even if you could source the part.

Thanks guys. My Radio was working many years without any issue. However, it starts to disconnect from wifi. It plays just 5-15 minutes than disconnets. WIFI icon in the bottom of display turns to red. I have to restart the Radio and that is plays again (5-15 minutes) and disconnects again. I will try ethernet connection tip. Any other advice?

I think you would need to replace the whole rotary encoder. The challenge there will be figuring out the appropriate part. Unfortunately I can't help with that.

My connector lead is lose and so I can’t get power I have to fiddle and fiddle to get it to connect . Can u use ur radio with only the extra battery ?
@sfred Жыл бұрын
You'd have to rig some sort of external charger for the battery pack. My feeling is that it would be more practical to replace the power connector.

Thank you for that info. I was unaware of that. My radio stopped working last night. I was already using the Ethernet connection because the wireless stopped working sometime ago. Looks like I'm going to lose all my favorite stations that I found over the years. I bought a small Bluetooth receiver from Amazon to play music from an old 8 inch Android tablet. You just connect it to the line input and you're all set. The sound quality is great for such a small radio. At least we all got 10 plus years of enjoyment from the radio. Unheard of in today's world. Thanks again for the update.😊

You can still use it, but you have to run your own server. Instructions here: mysqueezebox.com/index/Home

@sfred Жыл бұрын
I've not had a look at the board with the power supply connector on mine, but assuming it's the connector on the radio and not the power supply, then it could be the connector itself or cracked solder joints on the board it's attached to.
