Inkscape Tutorial: Wavy Lines Effect

In this tutorial I’ll be demonstrating how to create these wavy lines using the Lattice Deformation path effect in Inkscape. This would be a great tutorial for a beginner or first-time user of Inkscape.

I've been following you more than one and half year and I have to say that your channel is unfairly underrated. Your tutorials on both Inkscape and Gimp made me go to another level. That's a new path effect to me - really nice. For me on Windows the effect seems a little buggy, I've been using Inkscape since 0.45 when it used to crash a lot, these days almost never - apart from 5 minutes into trying to replicate the tutorial! I will persist as this seems like a really useful feature, it also seems to push the lines to overlap each other way more than it did for you.

Update:- I first did Path/Union not Path/Combine as the video says - the Lattice effect seems to work quite differently depending on which you pick. if you use union the lines can cross to make something like interference patterns

Hi, I've been having a problem with Inkscape's tool icons. (I have the 2019 icon pack as well as the dark theme and workspace installed) Whenever I click, say, one of the icons in the snap controls bar, that particular tool doesn't stay highlighted, so it's difficult to know whether it's enabled or not. I also don't have the lines separating the tools into categories, and since icons don't seem to grey-out indicating which tools are available based on those you have selected already, it's basically impossible to use the snap controls bar. And none of the tools, snap controls or otherwise, get highlighted when I hover over them. Is there a setting for this I have disabled? I don't know what the problem is.

@@mbrewster19 funny thing os I have a laptop with windows 10 and inkscape latest version, and I found of I drag the font I want from the zip file and put it into my font directory it works, but at home I use a new PC windows 10 and inkscape same version but it doesn't work.... I'm fuming...

I was having the same problem a couple of months ago. After googling the problem, I think I found the answer. It has to do with Windows 10 updates. In any case, I read you have to right click the unzipped font and select "Install for all users" from the drop down menu. That installs the font in the font directory automatically and it will then show up in Inkscape and other programs. It worked for me.

I don't think you can. The thumbnail for most files is the icon of the program used to open them by default, if you change the default program for svg files to google chrome, it will show the chrome icon. Raster images (gif, png, jpg, etc.) are the exception.
